  1. That and maybe he didn’t like the “sell the team” billboards and signs in the park.
  2. No doubt, but that “easier” path includes a higher degree of luck since we have more chances with pitching prospects than we do positional guys.
  3. I’m willing to give Gonzalez a bit more time as he at least had supporters in the prospect community ahead of the draft, but his lack of speed and poor showing in his short minor league tenure makes me pessimistic. I just think you can’t totally overreact to a poor first year showing for a draft pick. And the kid does have pretty good plate discipline, so I could see an average everyday 2B floor being possible even if the upside is disappointing for such a high pick.
  4. He did say he was willing to move some prospects, including some of the true top ones. He also acknowledged that they can more or less outbid anyone snd may not need to push so deeply to bid competitively for upgrades. I still think a trade will ultimately happen between us and them because the match is simply too perfect, but will likely require us to move on from Mayo or Basallo being in the trade (just my guess) and BAL beefing up the second piece with a legit top 100 guy.
  5. Pretty much. And it all stems back to Jerry unfortunately.
  6. I’m not suggesting we don’t take pitching. If we can’t get positional prospects, but can get premium pitching prospects then do it. I’m just saying I’d push harder for positional centerpieces if possible. I just see an easier path to scramble together a competent pitching staff than I do a competent lineup.
  7. But I actually like our pitching depth. It’s lack some of the high end talent that stronger farm systems may have, but we should have close to 20 legit prospects in SP roles next year from A to AAA. Maybe that’s not special, but it’s better than giving precious innings to journeymen and org guys which we’ve done far too often in the past. Meanwhile, the positional depth is completely lacking. The OF group is terrible with Wilfred Veras perhaps your best prospect after Colas. The IF situation is a lot better, but is still lacking in the lower minors. I don’t see any 1B/DH types that seem like could potentially replace Vaughn one day. Catching has gotten better though, but we also have zero major league catchers in reality.
  8. It seems very clear to me now, that this is intentional and Jerry’s way of creating some leverage for Chicago to help finance a new park. What a fucking scumbag.
  9. Sure, now do the same thing for positional prospects and compare it to other orgs. After the big three, our positional depth falls off massively.
  10. Of course you find the random pessimistic take on Twitter from a dude with no access vs. the general “he is in crazy demand” of actual MLB insiders.
  11. Give me all those sweet Orioles positional prospects please. We have at least 15 interesting pitching prospects I can name off the top of my head (in rough order of readiness): Jared Shuster* Nick Nastrini Jake Eder* Christian Mena Ky Bush* Matt Thompson Jonathan Cannon Sean Burke Peyton Pallette Noaz Schultz* Tyler Schweitzer* Juan Carela Tanner McDougal Grant Taylor Seth Keener I’m sure I’m missing some others and it doesn’t include Davis Martin. My point is there lots of arms and they will be coming in waves. Now, outside of Schultz, most of these guys are probably middle to back of the rotation guys, but maybe you get lucky with one or two and they exceed expectations. We also have the #5 pick next year and might be able to add a college arm who can move fast.
  12. Probably a big nothing, but f*** this asshole
  13. I thought you were saying if I were the Yankees. That being said, I don’t think I’d eat more than 25% of his contract right now. I think there is a real possibility he is better this year and maybe becomes movable at a lower cost to us.
  14. He added a sweeper and greatly improved his changeup via a grip adjustment. Not uncommon for pitchers to suddenly become more valuable after usage & repertoire changes. Whether it happens here remains to be seen, but worth the gamble at the price given our competitive outlook and need for innings.
  15. Maybe, but you don’t bring in Brian Bannister and not give him a chance to work Kopech as a starter (assuming he wants to).
  16. I see one more legitimate starter, but two seems unlikely IMO. I think we see the following to start the year. <Free Agent> Mike Soroka Erick Fedde Micheal Kopech Touki/Shuster/Nastrini
  17. Ok, so assuming Cease gets traded, who is the OD starter? Soroka? Fedde? Kopech? Touki?
  18. Just what they were hoping for when the front office said they’d be willing to spend money!
  19. Me? No…I mean hell no. I want nothing to do with Benintendi with four years left on that contract.
