Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
He struck out 3, walked two, and gave up 2 HR’s in 7 innings. He must have induced some weak contact outside of the two bombs as the xERA was really good, but that is ugly from a FIP perspective. The lack of strikeouts is what concerns me. Hopefully there is a fix for that because he’s going to struggle if it sticks around 6 per 9 like it has the last two months.

Exactly. And don’t get me wrong, I love that he pounds the strike zone, but without generating some whiffs that success won’t last forever. He could very well get better with time…just not sure I want to bank on that down the stretch if a higher impact arm is an option.

We’re paying him $24M next year…he’s locked in for a spot in the rotation and it certainly limits how much we’ll spend in that area.

I’m starting to consider. I can’t comprehend how any legitimate Sox fan who has endured the reign of Jerry Reinsdorf would be upset when a savior owner finally arrives. Just mind boggling stupid and not worthy of conversion at that point.

He’s hasn’t been a #2 starter for several years now. People look at his ERA and scream “ace” and completely ignore the SafeCo effect. His ERA at home was 2.95 the last three years vs. 4.16 in the road. That’s a significant split and a major advantage he loses out on moving forward.

Which start are you referring to?

Could is the key word there. This deal is banking on it.

lol…being called a dumbass by someone who doesn’t understand what the words “regression” & “sustainable” mean is truly something.

I must be missing the memo where 33 years old is considered young. And I’m all for looking for pockets of performance that can inspire hope, but this dude has posted a 6.09 K/9 since June 1st. He was around 10 K/9 during his peak years and his stuff had gradually declined since then. His track record means very little for the current version of Castillo.

The deadline isn’t until Monday…asking prices are always going to be inflated until the clock winds down.

Castillo has a 4.82 xERA…his performance has been arguably worse than Fedde’s. I think he’ll outperform Erick moving forward, but he’s probably neck & neck with Kay right now for the #3 spot short of major improvements.

Castillo isn’t a rental…he’s going to be here next year. For everyone celebrating we are finally spending money, this is your big Christmas present. Hope you like it for the next 15 months instead the bevy of more talented pitchers that will be available in free agency.

Holy s%*#…we’re potentially giving cash in this trade!?! Can’t even make this s%*# up at this point.

Not sure…the Sox are the team signaling they plan on adding him to the major league mix. Regardless, I’d rather gamble on his stuff than Schweitzer’s down the stretch.

You think Jerry is going to dump Castillo and eat his $24M salary if he continues on at his current pace?

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
He’s an evil private equity guy who hates ingress/egress and therefore tray hates him!

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
He hasn’t been a legit TOR starter since like 2022.

In 22 innings…it’s not sustainable bro.

This is your #3 SP for next year most likely. Let that cook for a minute and see if you still feel people are overreacting.

You are a fucking clown…go Stan for Jerry Reinsdorf some more you dolt

Yup.

The “it’s not our money” is a poor excuse to defend a trade. This dude is one of your five SPs next year. Ignore all the other younger, more productive arms that will be available this offseason that we could have used this money on…we just settled on Castillo being that guy because we wanted the smallest of upgrades for the post season.

Yup. And Castillo is obviously the better pitcher and has some theoretical ceiling there, but the stats are shockingly close on paper and Fedde is costing us only $1.5M while Castillo is essentially on a 2/$28M deal for us (if you view Dominguez as zero value) that required us to also give up a prospect.

Same here. I am one of the biggest Boston Smith Stan’s on this board and my biggest issue with the trade is with Castillo himself. His numbers are almost as bad as Fedds’s! And it’s not like he’s still in prime…his stuff has been gradually declining the past few years. This just seems like a low upside but costly gamble.
