  1. And the best part is the Sox will likely add a few cheap, potential breakout relievers to round out the pen. But no contender goes into a season and banks on a bunch of unproven guys are hitting. It’s absolute insanity and the people bitching Graveman now would be ripping Hahn to shreds come July.
  2. And you apparently hate all veterans and dislike filling major holes while trying to compete.
  3. Lol…you’d be bitching about their shit bullpen come July when all their unproven guys flop again next year. And then you’d b**** about having to overpay for quality relievers at the deadline. It’s an endless cycle with you guys…rinse repeat year after year.
  4. I’m totally fine if they someone wants to make a case against Graveman and/or why he’s likely to regress (and not just cite his lack of track record). But to be mad about spending $8M on a setup man when we desperately needed one? It’s clear some people can’t get the Kimbrel move out of their head and will ignore the reality that he will be gone soon enough and will need to be replaced if we’re serious about competing.
  5. Good player, bad fit. And not worth burning $14.5M on when good 2B can be had on the cheap.
  6. Is this a real question? Scouts don’t just look at a pitcher’s ERA and say “that’s fine”. They are actually “scouting” the player and coming up with a go-forward outlook for him. Clearly our pro scouts believe the 2021 version is here to stay. They could be wrong, but it’s stupid to assume they do no due diligence prior to a material signing.
  7. Who have they bought at the peak exactly other than Hendriks? They literally tried rolling out a bunch of young, self-developed types last season and most of those dudes crashed & burned. Let me guess, you’ll reference Kimbrel again despite all trade deadline additions being bought at peak value.
  8. Nope, he just thinks we should easily be able to add three Graveman type relievers on the cheap this offseason before they actually break out. Easy Peasy.
  9. This is just arrogant and stupid. You’re basically assuming the dude is a one year wonder because he doesn’t have a track record as a reliever and are acting the like the Sox should be able to pickup quality setup fairly easily on the cheap. Maybe you missed the memo, but our RH setup man before this trade (once you accept the fact Kimbrel will be gone) were some combination of Jose Ruiz, Ryan Burr, & Matt Foster. To think we didn’t need to sign at least one quality arm in free agency is comical. And maybe, just maybe the Sox pro scouting department believes the dude is here to stay as a reliever.
  10. Once the Sox trade Kimbrel, they will have two highly paid veterans in their bullpen. The remaining guys will be cheap and/or self-developed types with Bummer, Crochet, Ruiz, Lopez, Burr, etc. You’re clearly lumping Kimbrel into this despite not being part of the go forward plans.
  11. Come on man…they needed one decent right-handed setup man because Kimbrel is as good as gone plus they’re losing both Tepera & Kopech from the bullpen as well. Also, this will not stop them from addressing all their other needs (2B, RF, SP, etc), so no reason to be overreactionary here.
  12. Why did Shilling need to be resigned? I know he’s Rule 5 eligible (or was supposed to be before this), just kind of confused on what happened. This is different than the Tyler Johnson situation as he was on the 40 man roster.
  13. I think 2B is more likely to be addressed once the lockout ends unfortunately.
  14. Kimbrel was 100% gone before this move, this simply cements the fact he will be traded.
  15. Honestly, we need to add multiple RH relievers so I absolutely love this move. Seems like a very fair price and not radically different than the 2/$12M I was willing to pay Tepera. His ground-ball heavy approach should also work well at the Rate.
  16. Again, no one is saying trade him just for the sake of lineup balance. But if you can get a similar or better player at a different position and it improves the lineup balance then it should be explored. I love Andrew Vaughn and think he’s going to be a stud hitter, but this idea that he is untradable is laughable to me. And to be clear, I wouldn’t move him for anything less than a star player.
  17. You don’t think the top pitchers have LH/RH splits?
  18. The problem with this logic is how much of that .800+ against RHPs comes against the high-end ones that you face in the playoffs? The reality is lineup balance does matter and it gets exposed against tougher competition.
  19. Yeah, maybe not. In reality it was just one year of free agency.
  20. Wander Franco extension also nearing completion. Man we got lucky with Robert.
  21. Why is 5 years of Andrew Vaughn plus other prospects for three years of Ketel Marte at $30M a “meatball” take?
  22. I think there are two separate thoughts there that have been intertwined. I wouldn’t worry about us selling Vaughn for something like that. Would have to be for a star of some sorts.
