This really is the test for the new pro scouting department. We have failed so many times with these types of reclamation projects, but perhaps new scouting blood and an increased focus on analytics will lead to better evaluations.

Adam Eaton had a 117 wRC+ vs. RHP over his four seasons with the Nationals, driven by a .289 BA & .378 OBP. That’s nowhere near as good as 2018 to 2019 Joc, but it’s a massive upgrade over Mazara if we get that player and the skill-set blends in nicely some of the more free swingers on team. My biggest gripe is the fact Eaton’s defense is trending in the wrong direction. I know he’s been injured a ton and perhaps with a clean bill of health he turns things around defensively, but it’s definitely frustrating they went with such a high risk player after two straight years of terrible production out of RF.

The Sox won’t wait past next week if closer is that important to them.

Aaah yes, the great Adam Eaton bidding war of 2020. No one thought the Sox would come out victorious, but a least minute bid of $7M blew the competition out of the water and brought our beloved Spanky back home where he belongs.

I’m less concerned about an interim DH and more concerned with what happens if Eloy or Eaton goes does for an extended period of time. A left-handed corner OF type would be fantastic to have to open the season at DH and then move into a backup role. Hell, I’d be ok with Mazara at 1/$2.5M, but doubt he takes that.

Yeah, those two in the middle innings would be dealt. Plus neither of us are considering Marshall who was insane last year.

I just don’t think 2/$26M (what he’d theoretically be owed after the 2021 season) if that big of a financial risk to offset upside he provides at $13M/year and in the playoffs.

Next steps IMO: Sign Hendriks to a 3/$39 deal Sign Richards to a 1/$11M deal Extend Giolito at 5/$75M Extend Lynn at 2/$40M

Let’s hope that is indeed the reason.
