To buy or sell...
The challenge for those two and Pallette is going to be the roster crunch. The Sox are going to be very carful not to add more guys to the 40 man if they have to potentially DFA them a few weeks / months later. At some point, one of them could force the issue, but my guess is they will go through all other options already on the 40 man before doing so.

I said it in another thread, but I view the bullpen as being five deep at the moment in Taylor, Dominguez, Hudson, Newcomb, & Davis. After that, it’s a complete crapshoot. Given Hicks’ salary, once healthy, he’ll probably be given a chance until the trade deadline, but if that BB rate doesn’t improve drastically, then he needs to be DFA’d and replaced. Leasure is also hurt and I don’t think we can rely on him even if he comes back healthy at some point. And I have little faith in the lefty trio of Eisert, Gilbert, & Murphy to deliver right now. I didn’t mention Richard, but I think he gets replaced with Fedde or maybe Kay long-term once some of our SPs come back from injury. I actually think Kay as a swingman eventually could work well for us. If so, that’s two middle relief that would need to be filled if everyone else stays healthy. Internally, there are some options potentially, but none of them are high confidence. If Gonzalez can ever get healthy again (no idea his status), he may be one of two exceptions as he was pitching his ass off before injury and has the stuff to match it. Sandlin is the other if we’re willing to forgo him as SP depth. If not, I really think we have to go outside the org to fill these holes.

Hill is playing LF tonight, so would have been Antonacci out there as both the pinch hitter and defensive replacement. Peters would still be in CF.

Venable prioritized outfield defense in the 9th vs. a shot at the insurance run

He can’t hit RHP…probably should have pinched hit there, although that would have weakened the defense in the 9th

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Not sure, but I’d still expect Lackey to spend the bulk of 2027 in the minors at minimum. As such, you still would enter 2027 with Teel as your primary catcher and I’d expect by then it’s going to be very hard to move on from him.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting break-out age is the end-all be-all. Maybe it matters much less in the MLB than the NFL, but I do think it’s something to consider and it does play into prospect fatigue. I mean, we’re talking about a kid who is now a Golden Spikes finalist for two years in a row…his baseline production was among the best the sport. Even with some fall-off, he’s still amongst the best in the sport with four really impressive tools. I’m 100% open to arguments that Lackey is better prospect or who we should take at 1.01, but I think the way you have framed up Roch is biased due to him having an awesome sophomore season and not fully replicating as Junior.

Good question and I don’t have an answer for that of the top of my head. I would use Carlos Rodon as a great example of prospect fatigue and he should have been the 1.01 overall pick Aiken and the kid the Marlins took.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Gaslighting? I’m a massive NFL guy and one of the best predictors of success is break-out age. Guys who show they can succeed early on in college are far more likely to be legit NFL players. I’m just saying people tend to ignore early college contributions and focus entirely on their final pre-draft season. As such, a guy like Roch who was great as a sophomore but didn’t improve in his junior year will lose some status and I would argue more than they should. And beyond defense, Roch has elite bat to ball skills, plus power, and a plus arm. You are vastly underplaying his skill-set for reasons I don’t quite get.

If Keith Law thinks Jacob Gonzalez is going to be an All Star, the infield is even more crowded than we’re thinking.
