Let’s be honest, the people melting down about Lopez are the same one who melt down about everything.

That’s what we did. Bought some Roku’s, YouTubeTV, and MLBTV and we are set for way less than what Comcast what was charging us.

My point is right now the Sox can’t rely on him holding a spot next year when we’ll also have Cease & Kopech in their first full seasons. Unless Lopez has a strong second half, he’s going to have an uphill battle to be in the 2020 rotation to start the season cause the Sox will a pair of starters from outside the organization to the mix.

Hopefully continuing to work with McCann will help in their regard.

You called out the Cubs regarding Bryant and he’s a guy they would have loved extending but he was committed to testing free agency from the get go. As for the four guys you mentioned, none of them had had $25M to $30M signing bonuses like Moncada & Robert. That’s the challenge we face with those two in particular because they are already set for life.

I agree about the mental aspect of DHing and not sure everyone can do it. That being said, Jose has 500 career plate appearances and has put up a 128 wRC+, which is very similar to his production at 1B. He may not want to DH but he’s shown in a fairly large sample he can handle the role and moving him there is what’s best for the team.

100% agree and I think he ultimately will agree to DH. Otherwise there’s zero chance he’ll be here after the 2020 season because Vaughn will have the 1B role on lock-down by then.

And fairly sizable extensions for Buehrle & Danks before that.

Lopez needs to man up and get us to .500 today. I’ve been one of his biggest advocates on this board, but he’s been a total disaster this season and it’s finally put up or shut-up time if he wants any chance of claiming a rotation spot next year. The clock is officially ticking.

You can’t force someone to agree to an extension. Bryant always wanted to test free agency and some of our guys may feel the same way. Again, I’d love to extend Moncada, but he seems like a guy who will likely go year to year and test free agency when he can.

Anderson was already extended and is under control through the 2024 season. Other than making a decision on McCann (who it sound like they want to extend), the two guys they should be prioritizing are Moncada & Giolito. Yoan will likely be a challenge to extend given his initial big payday (although we should no doubt try), but I fully expect Giolito to be locked up this coming offseason.

I know this if from nearly a month ago, but did you actually use the phrase “not fiscally responsible” (twice no less) when discussing the Ricketts? Did you see the Cubs’ offseason? Their fanbase was about to riot for not spending big in free agency to add the finishing pieces.

Vaughn is supposed to be pretty good at 1B. I just don’t see Eloy working as a 1B.

I agree, Eloy should definitely be more than playable in LF for the next couple years. No reason to rush him to the DH spot.

And according to Statcast he’s producing exactly as he should be based the on his quality of contact. That being said, his BB rate will continue to improve with time which will only improve his numbers. I’d give anything to be able to extend this offseason.

We need a DH though and Jose’s 1B days should be over.

I’d probably be ok with something like 2/$25M.
