  1. The thing about perpetual rebuilds is that some teams can actually pull them off (the Rays and A's specifically).
  2. watching the white sox the last decade sure has been "perineal". cuz they play like taint get it get it
  3. I wouldn't project him to repeat his BABIP performance, but sure, if his power ticks up and the walks come back I think he could hit that. I just wouldn't project it.
  4. I think the Moncada prediction is wildly optimistic, but yeah otherwise that looks realistic. I would agree that this team will be helped quite a bit by not giving 1000+ PA to negative WAR guys.
  5. Here's a little insight as to why Odorizzi might be for real https://blogs.fangraphs.com/jake-odorizzi-explains-his-velocity-jump-and-career-year/
  6. Jerry's not cheap, he's just anti-labor scum.
  7. Hey it said realistic, not ideal.
  8. Here's a preliminary plan Odorizzi @ 3/54 Pomeranz @ 2/14 Nova @ 1/9 Smyly MiLB deal Grandal @ 4/80 Abreu @ 2/24 Reynaldo Lopez for Brandon Nimmo Stiever and one of Rutherford/Adolfo/Basabe/Gonzalez for Mychal Givens DFA Yolmer, Tender everyone else C Grandal 1B Abreu 2B Madrigal SS Anderson 3B Moncada LF Jimenez CF Robert RF Nimmo DH Some mix of Grandal/Collins/Abreu Bench - McCann, Collins, Leury, Engel, Mendick SP - Giolito, Cease, Odorizzi, Kopech, Nova (Rodon/Smyly/Dunning/Lambert/depth signings) RP - Bummer, Colome, Herrera, Pomeranz, Givens, two of Hamilton/Burr/Marshall/Cordero/others) Payroll ~120M
  9. Choo would be an interesting DH candidate if they really wanted to scrounge (rather than paying $$$ for JDM)
  10. Yeah, probably, but I think if the Rangers are looking to compete in 2020 (and by all indications they are) they won't trade Gallo. Calhoun would be a fascinating target, but i'm not sure why they'd move him.
  11. It doesn't seem a wise use of the Sox limited prospect capital to get a guy for one season if the goal is sustained competition.
  12. Yeah 3B seems like a pretty low priority target. I know Moncada can, and has said he would, play anywhere, but that doesn't mean they SHOULD move him.
  13. I dunno if I would say that's true of LA (Lakers town) or NY (Yankees). Those are kind of exceptions but they're also the only places with two baseball teams.
  14. We're not in competition with the Cubs, we're in competition with the Twins and Cleveland. As ever, Chicago is not a Cubs or Sox city, it's a Bears city.
  15. One shortcut would be to eliminate his changeup entirely. He only threw it 15% of the time, and hitters had a laughable .421 wOBA against. Essentially, the average hitter was Mike Trout against the pitch. Big yikes.
  16. This post sent me out to find some info about Rey's spin rates, specifically on his 4-seamer. So, after some googling, I got to the StatCast site, where, in addition to finding out that the longest HR this season was hit by future White Sox Nomar Mazara (505 feet!) I found some info on said pitch: 58.4% of pitches thrown avg velo 95.8 mph avg spin rate 2135 rpm wOBA against = .362 That wOBA is...not good. The site also has comparative metrics on his FB velo (top 17% in MLB) and spin rate (bottom 20%). Rey is getting swinging strikes on 19% of his FB. Again, that is...not good. Going further and looking at the movement on the pitch, he actually has pretty good lateral movement, but nearly no horizontal movement. Generally, subtracting spin would give him more negative horizontal movement - kind of turning the pitch into a sinker. I guess that could work, but Rey has another problem - his other pitches aren't particularly good either, so he really has nothing to back up the FB. So, after all that, I think he could add (up to 2400 or so RPM) or subtract (down to 1900 or so RPM) spin (adding would cause the pitch to rise slightly, effectively giving him another plane of movement) but his real issue is that he doesn't have an elite pitch. So, making him into a reliever might not be as good an option as it seems.
  17. Rey seems like the kind of guy who would benefit from adding some spin to his fastball. Too bad the Sox don't have development guys geared towards doing that, unlike the team that just won 100 games two seasons in a row. edit - sorry, 3 seasons in a row.
  18. "Best since the 50's/60's" is still a good place to be, and also quite damning of the organization.
  19. It'll be Dickerson, he's perfect. He hits the ball incredibly hard, plays lousy defense and never walks, basically the platonic ideal Sox player.
  20. Didn't Dombrowski start here? If he left the org once, he's probably not coming back. That's already ignoring that JR doesn't pay a premium for executives/management. If no one wants his services, he'll probably retire. He's been around forever and has already been extremely successful.
  21. "yeah big ups to Coop for draggin his ass into the 21st century, here's how he HASN'T been helping me before now"
  22. This seems right, since they all have MLB time. It'd be pretty dumb not to bring up Collins but with this team, who knows.
  23. Its probably been noted, but Flowers seems to really hate the Sox. With good reason, I suppose.
