I doubt anyone can vouch. I would guess 5 years guy is Grienke. The Sox don't have the dough or the bullets to get Grienke or Upton but I would be pleased if they surprised some folks and signed A Sanchez.

Gyorko or Olt would be nice targets as they might be (or are, in Olt's case) blocked by big names.

Zobrist would be a great add. The only problem is that the Rays will never trade him. He gets paid like a role player and is consistently one of the most valuable guys in MLB. Seriously, his contract is one step down from the ludicrous Longoria deal. Guy has made like 20 mil over the last 5 seasons and has been worth about 100 mil.

He mashed RHP in the minors. He hasnt done much in the majors on either side but he would be a cheap platoon partner/lottery ticket.

That is very true. Logic tells us that by definition, 16 comes before 18.

In any draft there is only a marginal difference between the talent available at 16 and that available at 18. Next years draft is supposed to be pretty weak FWIW.

The reason most people don't want to see that is because "rebuilding" doesn't usually work. How many teams have been stuck in perpetual rebuild mode? Also, watching terrible baseball is boring, and the Sox have no financial wiggle room already. They have to live and die by the margins and that is what fielding a maybe-competitive team helps them do.

Let walk/ buyout - Peavy, AJP, Myers, Youk Pick up option - Floyd Trade - Rios, to Angels, for Conger Crain to anybody for anything Quintana to someone for 3B prospect/project and SP depth Sign - B-MAC or Marcum, and hope Herm can keep em healthy Scott Hairston C Conger 3B Some Guy SS Alexei 2B Beckham 1B Paulie LF Hairston/Danks CF De Aza RF Viciedo DH - Dunn Sale/Floyd/Danks/Bmacormarcum/Santiago or SP Depth Bullpen - whatever, we've got guys. As far as 3B goes, Wright would be an improvement over any 3B not named Cabrera (or Headley) so if he's available he will draw a lot of interest.

That might be a backup plan for Boston but I would guess they drive had for Napoli to man 1st and do a little catching/DHing.
