QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) Benetti has broadcast 11 regular season games to this point. Fair enough, but that's obviously not his point. No matter the experience he gets he'll never have played pro ball, he'll never understand the mental or physical side of the game, or anything relating to the human side of the game. To Benetti, the players aren't men, they're just amusing little mice with statistics. To Hawk, the players are living breathing men in the trenches of a war, with injuries, differing levels of intellect, different strategies, different levels of nervousness, different backgrounds etc. things Benetti will never be able to comment on. Thanks for telling me the guy's batting average benetti. I get it. He gets on base 34% of the time. That's what the number means. Oh, you want to use advanced statistics? How dare you act like you're teaching any of us baseball- you've never played. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he'll be great. This is just my hazing period for him. And rightfully so. No Sox fan should just hand over the keys without him earning it. It'll be hazing season for a while, hopefully a long while. He's trying to replace one of the most unique and iconic broadcasting figures this world has and will ever see. A true master and a true legend.

Hawk you da man! Thanks for teaching me how to talk cool as a young man growing up glued to your broadcasts. I hope we win the division this year for ya! You've done nothing but pour your heart into this team, this wonderful family that includes all the generations of fans, players, coaches etc. You've been like a second dad to many of us and I thank you for always keeping your broadcasts somewhat targeted to the kids- a real rarity in the today's game with all the robotic "voice guys" who never played sports.

I'm going to miss Hawk complementing all the other teams' players. He always loved the good players/managers/coaches/GMs on the other teams often more than our guys. He is just a fan of good baseball and I think that fact often gets lost. Sure he rooted for the Sox, but good baseball from either team excited him the most.

4/26 Game thread: @ Toronto, 6:07pm, WPWR
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) It really depends on which Dickey you get. If he's got the good knuckler going, you never know. For sure. I hope it's the bad Dickey staring our guys right in the face. Let's get up close and personal with some of his balls tonight and take him deep.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Binetti spends too much time trying to be cute. Just call the game. Why does he keep talking to Stone about the heater in the booth? Not funny. Just call the game and let it come to you. Yea good call with the cute thing. That for sure needs to be reigned in quite a bit. Even makes stone awkward and stone tries to be cute alot too. Overall, it is what it is. We now have our announcer that blends in to the background like every other team's guy. He has the standard announcer voice and clearly never played sports, let alone pro ball- but that's just like every other announcer. Gone soon are the days of insight into the human side of the game that only comes from experience. But that's what most of the fans on here wanted. We now have the guy that comes with batteries right out of the announcer box. He will never be remembered, revered or even talked about. Kinda feel bad for him that his fate is already decided as a nobody and a never-will-be. Not his fault he has to follow one of the all-time top 5 greats. God his HR call sucks.

Fangraphs:Positional Power Rankings Series
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) Kind of surprised they didn't include Fulmer in the extended rotation. I don't buy the Cubs at 3rd for SP. Arrieta is bound to regress a damn good bit and I just don't see Lackey repeating last season. I agree but unfortunately they won't be facing major league lineups for most of the year which will prop up their stats.

Bold Minors Predictions
I'm saying Coats crushes MiLB pitching and forces his way up, never to go back down.

I love Hawk Harrelson
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) That is all. But seriously, I really do like Hawk. His schtick can get excessive at times, but I’ve grown to appreciate him even more after hearing Benetti the past few weeks. I will be very sad when he retires. and yes, I know this thread isn’t necessary but I’m bored as hell at school so bare with me. Nice man. Yea it's becoming way too trendy to bash Hawk. The man has done so much for this organization and people just want to cast him out. What did he ever do to you? His catchphrases are used all over the nation & all the players love him. Sure he's overdone a few things the last few years, but that's only because we've heard them for decades. I guarantee there are youngsters every game hearing stuff for the first time from Hawk- I used to be one. Let him be. It's not like he's flashing his genitals on the screen yet. I say yet because I can't wait; that'll be hilarious.

Lawrie's eyeblack reminds me of the wwf legion of doom. It's cool if he mashes- not so cool if he sucks. Like the outfield song.

How The White Sox Win The Pennant-Fangraphs
Is the plan for Danks, Latos & Johnson to make the team, with Johnson as the mop man who eats 3-4 innings a week when a starter scuffles? If not Johnson, who's the mopman?

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) I would bet it was about the other players being afraid to be "adult" around the kid more than anything else. LaRoche is religious, the players know that, so you aren't going to play all your vulgar music, tell your raunchy stories, be loud and curse, and walk around naked/clad with a kid there all the time. I get how this could be very tiresome for teammates. Ever hang out with all your buddies and then they bring their kid/parent/girlfriend around? You feel like you have to censor yourself or tone it down or watch how you act. It's just not the same. I could see that leading to an awkward clubhouse and CLEARLY the focus this offseason was to bring in high-energy, loud personalities and I can see them clashing immediately. After thinking about this for awhile you & CSN are 100% correct. I feel like any other opinion is wrong. You can't have your kid around the grown boys all the time. You just can't do it. Can't do it. Who the hell did he think he was doing that? I think Robin may be at fault a bit for immediately not putting his foot down last year by saying, "Whoa buddy, what the hell do you think you're doing; show some respect."

3/13 vs Diamondbacks
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) Half of his change ups hang up high and get crushed though. If it's low and fading it's a great pitch, but Danks has shaky control and his lack of velocity makes it pretty easy to wait on that change and crush it when he hangs it The problem is batters can sit on his fastball outside too because he's never gonna bust anybody inside. He's always seemed like a 2 pitch guy to me. Not enough weapons at that low velocity.

3/12, White Sox at Cubs, Television stations list
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) He looked better than Johnson but I think he still ends up in AAA...................... For sure. I think that's what most are thinking

3/12, White Sox at Cubs, Television stations list
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) I'm very excited to hear Benetti for the first time. I'll be rooting for him to do well and hopefully call Sox games for a long time. I'm rooting for Hawk to get all new organs, maybe some new eyeballs since he has some vision issue, probably a new skeleton and some fresh skin too. I'm in my early 30s and I hope to hear him for my next 40 years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 07:28 AM) Here is a crazy thought, with like 100 other people in Reds camp, maybe they are scouting someone else? Crazy, right. I'll eat the whole plate of s*** if we get Votto.

3/7 spring training game thread
His swing looked super short, compact & quick. Is this different than years past? I guess I always imagined this lazy Dunn/Laroche style swing due to the low average and high k's

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) I already made a bold prediction that EJ is better than Jordan Zimmerman and his $16.5M contract. No one would've remembered it but I'm stating it again just to be out there. That's what's up dude- All about it!

White Sox considering OFs Bruce, CarGo
QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) I can see trading Q for Cargo if Rox give up a couple of their top prospects, and they have some good ones. Does that mKe either team better? That's the problem IMO
