  1. Tough to please everybody in a giant country with different climates, different nationalities, different issues spread out over an entire continent. "But look at Sweden!!!!". Lunacy. Sweden is the size of Bridgeport and almost everybody is Swedish. One has to look no further than our very own Illinois to realize how crazy an idea it is to emulate something like Sweden. Try pleasing both rural Ilinois and Chicago Illinois with policy. Then also get 49 other states with similar disparities on board. It's amazing anything has ever gotten done.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) cool Fair enough. I just think it's bulls*** to wear it on your sleeve like you're proud of it and condescend millions who think differently.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) For what it's worth, I hate catch alls as well. Back when the catch all thread existed on the main Sox board I rarely, if ever checked it. Agreed. It was the worst thread. Could have been titled "Blah"
  4. I still can't believe some of you argue that Democrats are more right than Republicans & vice versa. Shame on you. Hillary Clinton is about to be our President. Holy f***ing s*** balls. We're officially a joke.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) We should stop bringing Christians into this country. I mean, with groups like the KKK and LRA out there, who knows what those Christians can do? From that Christian part of the world where they are cutting off people's heads while simultaneously orchestrating mass terror plots and proclaiming "death to the west"? I agree with you.
  6. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Religion. That is all. Cmon. This has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with power, land, freedom, oppression, protection, greed- any of those things. People who blame religion for anything are very misinformed about religion. What's the most common canned opinion about religion that you hear? "Look at all the wars and lives lost because of religions." Most popular statement you ever hear, and it's totally retarded. People sure think they're smart saying it though. Men & women often choose to do horrible horrible things.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) Wonder if he turned us down then. Also gotta wonder if we turned him down.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) Ok, question for you....my flooring guys realized yesterday morning that the exterior door to the laundry room will no longer swing inwards, because the height of the new flooring apparently is slightly higher than the previous flooring. Is this something the flooring contractor is usually on the hook for, or is this something the homeowner has to fix? The door itself is your garden variety 6-panel door with steel exterior. It seems like cutting it down a bit would be messy. But assuming this door is standard size, I would have to order a custom door, which is going to cost me upwards of $700-800. This is really not something I have any desire to dump more money into... Jam, How much more space do you need? One thing you can do is pop off the door casings and see if you can raise the whole door jamb up some. Chances are there may be around a 1/4-1/2" of shim room you could grab. Sometimes even more. Sometimes none, but usually something. You can always plane the top of the jamb if it's wood to grab another 1/8". Popping off a head casing is a simple way to investigate. I feel ya though, woulda been nice if he spoke up before
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) Just using the law of averages, the Sox are due to have a guy like Engel and a few more actually break out, aren't they? I think we'll pop one out eventually. There's also the law of decades of turds popping out so I dunno.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Ss has lifted millions out of elderly poverty. It is by no means a lavish living, but many would be much, much worse off if it didn't exist. People in the 1930's were aware of both inflation and increasing life expectancy, though life expectancy at retirement hdon' increased as much as life expectancy at birth. I don't see how living past your sixties with some basic needs guaranteed goes against the "American dream" Guarantee of happiness or pursuit of happiness? Don't get me wrong I think it's a great idea at heart but to say they were aware of the levels of inflation, increased life expectancy & massive population explosion is a bit ridiculous. NO. THEY. WEREN'T. It's created absolute laziness just as much as it's lifted millions out of elderly poverty. It is what it is. It eats itself. Which is gross. Nothing should eat itself. All I'm saying is I'll be damned if I grab one of those checks.
  11. Did socail security ever have a chance lol? I mean seriously. Ok so you work until your early 60s and then you get a free ride? I understand the increased prices of survival weren't likely foreseen or the rise in life-expectancy, but s***, ithe principal of it goes against the american dream of your right to grab whatever size of the pie you want. I know so many retiree-aged people who are just waiting out the years. I think the younger generation is seeing first hand how almost unlivable the SS wage is. Gotta grab more pie or die.
  12. I'm a general contractor and can answer any questions anybody has, especially how to maximize your budgets with your MEP subcontractors- that's where prices can escalate if you're not careful. Feel free to PM me to check out any info the subs are feeding you thay may sound dicey. Be happy to talk you through it. Planning, cleanliness & order of operations are key. All plumbing, electrical & hvac rough-ins should only take 1 day of labor, EVER. Keep that cost down.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) Hard to believe TheoHoyer would part with a first rounder for Alex Gordon I prefer Jedstein but carry on. Agreed.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Just like the girl this summer in her bikini at the swimming pool in Texas apparently...the same groups rallying for Fields must be the same ones posting comments at yahoo.com stories and backing Trump, Carson, Fiorina and Ted Cruz and now protesting MSNBC. The GOP should actually be grateful for "red meat" to drive their fundraising totals for the next couple of months. Oh my god man. Please tell me this was sarcastic. You can't honestly consider yourself an adult saying such things.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) How could anybody work for that management team? Mattingly should have waited for a better job. He'd have gotten one. I guess there are worst things than getting fired one year into a four-year deal. Beaches bro.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) For Tex, this is basically my answer. I believe the MANY reports of how rude she is to staffers and others. I believe her saying "Katy Perry mode" at a serious hearing did happen. Entitled, rude, mean woman. We never see any stories about how great a person Hillary is. The "light" stories about Hillary are the ones about how she is re-inventing herself personality wise. That didn't last long. America seems happy to continue the nepotism thing with its presidents. Trump or Carson would be good for four years just to switch it up. Many of you say Presidents don't do anything anyway. So let Trump entertain us for four years or Big Ben Carson. Trump's kind of a ruthless tool himself, so I'd go with Ben. For sure man. I guess I just can't understand people promoting Hillary Clinton like she's actually the best-suited to LEAD this entire country. Really? We can't find more qualified leader candidates? I actually voted for Obama the first time thinking he might be able to unite some stuff. Just like everybody else, I turned a blind-eye to the fact that he had absolutely zero leadership under his belt. I want to say I'm done voting for popular senators or any popular picks. I think all 50 governors should have to throw their hats in the ring and we pick from them. Maybe past governors too. Enough of this unqualified bulls***.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) I thought I saw that as well, but I went back and watched it again and it appeared he stayed in bounds. These last two games have been disappointing, but for the best in the long run. Well said. 4-3 would be nice but Fox having a purging year or two can only help the future of the organization. In Fox/Pace I trust.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 07:22 AM) Northsider: Who do you like most, Engel or May? Engel made that one catch. So engel ?
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) Are those opinions or can you bring up specific events? We can find "reports' that negatively portray every candidate. We could also consider where there is politics there are lies. True man. But I don't think blindly believing her to be a saint is any smarter. Seems reasonable to me that she's an uptight entitled b**** who treated staffers etc. like garbage. Not saying it's true, just saying it's for sure very possible. Of the hundreds of millions of people in this country I think it's sad that we don't have actual leaders to choose from, just beneficiaries of nepotism. Sucks.
  20. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) My premiums have increased almost 50% in the last five years. Nothing to do with Obamacare I'm sure. I do not give a flying f*** what your Kaiser stats say. The law passed in 2009. Companies started planning for the abomination. They didn't wait four to five years to plan. I don't have to prove anything to you. I am living it right now and it's because of the ass clown you libs elected. Mine have gone through the roof as well. Interestingly enough the ACA has created quite the catch 22. No longer do people have to have full time jobs to get insurance. So laziness is more encouraged. But also, many companies, mainly the huge corps where the poorest people work, split up everyone's time and higher more worker's so that nobody works close to full-time. If you're poor and working at Walmart, McDs etc, you basically can't get a full-time salary. Less money. But the unemployment stats don't tell you that the poor are sufferibg more than ever. Economy is growing!
  21. To understand Bill Maher all one has to do is see Religulous. Doesn't matter what you believe, just watch the man interact with people in the movie. The pompousness, the condescension. His main goal is to project a certain group of people as idiots. I guess I just don't think that is a good goal for a grown man to have, and somehow it's applauded. Think of the kids lol.
  22. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Donaldson would have hit .213 with the white sox This
  23. Long swing eh? Hell no for big money. Tyler Flowers has a long swing. I hope they spend 15M on a short swing. A baseball swing.
  24. Just guessing man. Seemed a bit premature bringing him up. I get the reasons why they brought him up if you believe he's staying in our organization...just brainstorming the other angle to be thorough. Feel free not to acknowledgw that side of the GM game.
  25. Haha OP i'm an idiot- sorry for the SS post. I think the only reason Montas was brought up to the big leagues was to beef up his value. I think the Sox put him in the pen to highlight his fastball amd mask his longevity issues- but now I bet plenty of GMs are salivating over that build and velocity. Methinks the Sox see something with him that is no bueno. He gone.
