  1. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) My premiums have increased almost 50% in the last five years. Nothing to do with Obamacare I'm sure. I do not give a flying f*** what your Kaiser stats say. The law passed in 2009. Companies started planning for the abomination. They didn't wait four to five years to plan. I don't have to prove anything to you. I am living it right now and it's because of the ass clown you libs elected. Mine have gone through the roof as well. Interestingly enough the ACA has created quite the catch 22. No longer do people have to have full time jobs to get insurance. So laziness is more encouraged. But also, many companies, mainly the huge corps where the poorest people work, split up everyone's time and higher more worker's so that nobody works close to full-time. If you're poor and working at Walmart, McDs etc, you basically can't get a full-time salary. Less money. But the unemployment stats don't tell you that the poor are sufferibg more than ever. Economy is growing!
  2. To understand Bill Maher all one has to do is see Religulous. Doesn't matter what you believe, just watch the man interact with people in the movie. The pompousness, the condescension. His main goal is to project a certain group of people as idiots. I guess I just don't think that is a good goal for a grown man to have, and somehow it's applauded. Think of the kids lol.
  3. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Donaldson would have hit .213 with the white sox This
  4. Long swing eh? Hell no for big money. Tyler Flowers has a long swing. I hope they spend 15M on a short swing. A baseball swing.
  5. Just guessing man. Seemed a bit premature bringing him up. I get the reasons why they brought him up if you believe he's staying in our organization...just brainstorming the other angle to be thorough. Feel free not to acknowledgw that side of the GM game.
  6. Haha OP i'm an idiot- sorry for the SS post. I think the only reason Montas was brought up to the big leagues was to beef up his value. I think the Sox put him in the pen to highlight his fastball amd mask his longevity issues- but now I bet plenty of GMs are salivating over that build and velocity. Methinks the Sox see something with him that is no bueno. He gone.
  7. I'll take a poke at shortstop. I think it's pretty fair to say Alexei was awful with the bat this year. His D is damn good even if it's declining, still damn good. I'm totally impressed with Saladino's makeup on the defensive end of the game. He just GETS IT. He's fluid and fun to watch, a true baseball player. The question is his bat, and after Alexei's year, I feel like it would be hard for him to hit much worse. So for me, it's a no-brainer when you figure in the $9M in savings.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) The Cubs are going to spend something like $400 million for pitching over this off season and the last one. What does that speak to? Shh don't tell that to the theo-lovers. Whoopdedoo they sucked on purpose from like 09-14. They did nothing "the right way". They spit in the face of the integrity of the game and didn't try to win, and even worse, signed guys just to flip them at the deadline. Cool. Meanwhile, we had badass teams on paper every one of those years minus maybe '14, and did what every other team which is honorable does, tried to f***ing win. And here we sit, amazingly, with a better young core than the cubs. Amazing.
  9. I think Dom wants to put a contender on the field THIS year. Trading for the cheap Q contract allows him to also sign a Price/Greinke type. Gonna cost him though.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 25, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) 6.5 seasons to be ten games over .500. Realistically, we could say six since it's impossible to turn around a season for a losing organization with no resources committed when you're hired in the middle of the year. Interesting math system there. 7.5 seasons for the WC and World Series. 8.5 seasons for the division and World Series. Best record in the AL from 2013-2015 and two consecutive playoff and World Series appearances, something the White Sox have never done in franchise history. All this coming from MLB's smallest media market and with a very limited payroll until Glass approved adding James Shields. By the end of the World Series, more playoff/postseason games in two years than the White Sox have had in the past 55. The White Sox had 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 16...which is 8 years MAYBE getting back to .500 in Year Eight (and Year 2 of some plan or another) but right now even that's highly unlikely to most. If the White Sox made it to the World Series in both 2017 and 2018 they'd still be behind schedule. I don't think anyone will take that bet, though. Last year it was luck or a fluke in the WC game...this year it was the umpiring. What will it be next season as the excuse? If Ned Yost is worse than Ventura and Moore isn't that good either, why haven't the White Sox with exponentially more resources been able to pull off the same seemingly easy feat? I get the results-based analysis. 0 playoffs. I get that. Seems incomplete to analyze the sox that way though. We've arguably been WS contenders on paper before almost evey one of those seasons started. The Royals, never, not even these last 2 years.
  11. Our minors are looking stacked. I'm pumped. We can trade for anybody
  12. Haha nice with the maybes. I think many Sox fans fail to reaize that we have way better players than the cubs. Way better. Sure our guys don't feast on junk pitching so the stats are skewed. But I'd take our young core over theirs in a heartbeat. Stay the course Rick.
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) Great to have him for the future. One of the bright spots in a dark time for us and a ray of hope with our continual luck with pitching. Haha
  14. How sure of a thing is Frazier's offense. This was the first year i heard of him. Was he steady.? How good were the good months and how bad were his bad months? Are you concerned about him feasting on junk NL pitching?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Fangraphs April 1 projections had no AL playoff team making the playoffs. The highest ranking playoff team was the Yankees, who were 7th in the AL and the first team eliminated. Judging anything by projection before the WS is over and no moves have been made is pretty funny, but it should keep the whiners whining. What, the same roster they finished the season with isn't projected 3 weeks after the season is over to have enough WAR to make the playoffs next year? Dear fangraphs, Yes. I watched baseball this year and also looked at the standings.
  16. I think my major gripe with our election process for president is that there are no qualifications necessary. Is it too much to ask that the candidates have some serious experience in leadership, compromise & getting things done on a big stage? Like him or not, Obama won a popularity contest, not a leadership contest. What, was he a senator for a couple years? Quite the leadership resume! Kind of blows your mind when you actually try to think about his resume. Hillary, seriously? First lady definitely puts her close to daily presidenting, but was she at the big table for decisions? Few years as a senator? Maybe one of the worst SoS in recent history? Cmon! McCain, Kerry- Oooooo senators. What have you lead that was great? While Gbush is a whole separate animal...I will give him credit for being a governor. Maybe you should have to be a successful governor to throw your hat in the ring. I get that senators know how Congress works first hand but ultimately they are just 1 vote out of 100. A governor's job is to get things done period, across party lines. I'll stop rambling now.
  17. Journalistic integrity? LOL we are talking about sports here. Sports. I'd say we're still in a golden age since grown men can still actually make a good living from writing about sports. Sports. Sports are a bs sideshow in the overall scheme of the world. Goes with FUN...and GAMES. No journalistic integrity required or even desired by the people- "just write about the team i like please...or don't...i'll get back to the real world either way". Like others have said, if nobody reads about the Sox, why waste resources writing about them? Afterall, most newspapers are already thankful people care to read about sports at all.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Buddy Bell, Hahn, KW, Steverson, Robin, new bench coach, Vince Coleman... Can cross each of them out when they're no longer with the organization and only the bench coach is left standing. McEwing, if he doesn't end up taking another job, can probably stick him up there too. The FO banner is funny as hell. Rick Hahn, and then that old Kenny pic where he's on the phone.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) I don't give the FO for trying and then using a strategy with an extremely high rate of failure. The accurate metaphor is trying to satisfy your retirement needs by putting the $100k you've saved up in the lottery. Then yelling "I totally tried to retire a millionaire!" Yes, you tried, but you didn't assess the fact that it would be surprising if that strategy worked. It might work if we try it again next year, eventually if you put $100k into the lottery every day you would win, but it might well take decades. Yea but the plan was to supplement the development of Sale, Q, Eaton & Avi with some short term contracts to go for it. Avi blew hard and the FO needs to fix that. They sure thought he was going to break out this year, as did i, but it didn't happen. We probably would have been playing meaningful late September games if Avi didn't bomb.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Well we had a pretty busy offseason last season. How did that work out. We need to build this the right way. Wasting draft picks and playing the reload game every year is going to hamstring this organization into a perennial 75-83 win organization. Whoa whoa. The Shark and Laroche flops came outa nowhere. I imagine we'll all be impressed again this offseason. Avi not taking a step forward was a major blow too. Feel bad for Rick that he has more work to do than he should.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Let's all chip in and buy it. Haha love this! Like it's big frank's first home run ball or something nostalgic lol.
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) No thank you to both Ramirez and Zobrist. Both over 30, heading downhill, the Sox don't need more stiffs who are unmotivated with big expensice contracts. If the Sox are going to continue to suck (and they probably will) I'd rather see a bunch of kids who at least care. MMark But can they play?
  23. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) Between that coverage angle, the BFIB Cards attitude, and my hatred for all things Cubbish, this series has the potential to be the most annoying thing that has ever happened in sports. I'll probably just avoid it. Spot on sir! I don't get why people root for the cubs. Since '98 when Sosa created their fanbase, it just seems so forced and lame. Your dad didn't work hard and neither do you, I get it already.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Oh god, how has nobody responded to this? Please tell me you just forgot the green text. For sure man. Davidson was the green. Would you trade Sale for Harper?
