  1. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Agreed on this. We tried to buy fixes last season and none of them hit. A smarter organization would start moving pieces for prospects. Unfortunately, we don't have that luxury and the position player drafting is mediocre. Dude just no. We have restocked the farm and flipped cores all in 2 yrs without having to lose on purpose for 5 yrs. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, being 6 games under .500 or whatever, but the Sox are in an enviable position moving forward. Hang in there.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) They're going to move CarGo this offseason also. Now they may want to keep Arenado and build around his superstar status. But maybe they'd listen I don't know. This is completely speculation and probably ridiculous to even bring him up. That's why Avi might be interesting to them too.
  3. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) The interesting thing about Arenado is they probably know he's gone in a couple years. He made a comment about the organization when Tulo was moved. He knows when he's a FA to GTFO of Colorado. Exactly. Bout to get expensive too. They are in full rebuild if you consider the pieces they got for Tulo. Their window reopens in 3 yrs. They'd be smart to trade Arenado now if they don't plan on shelling the cash down the line. That's why the Sox should send them a nice package of 2-3 yr out guys + EJ. Montas, Johnson, Micah & Anderson is a f***ing haul for any team.
  4. I think the Rockies would seriously consider Montas/Johnson as the pitching portion of a deal for Arenado. Then add Anderson or Micah. Maybe even use Avi if they trade cargo.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Call me optimistic (really? me?) but I really like the idea of Anderson at SS especially given that he's cut down the errors this year. He 100% still has work to do - defense, too many strikeouts, he definitely needs a full season at AAA, maybe even more if he doesn't tear up AAA next year, but Anderson at SS could be one of the strongest SS in baseball in a couple years if his development continues as it has been this season. We should be under no illusions that he will do anything but struggle in 2017 as a big league starter so that anything we get beyond that is gravy, but I really like him there - I'm dreaming of peak Jose Reyes manning SS for us during a much worse offensive period. So, how do we get to that point? If we're doing the silly "We must compete right now!!!!" thing we did this season then you probably bite the bullet and bring Alexei back. If you're instead actually trying to build a franchise, I think putting Saladino at SS for 2016 gives you more options. Maybe he's a failure with the bat and you don't mind replacing him with Timmy. Maybe he hits in-between and you decide he's becoming a utility guy when Anderson comes up in September 2016. Maybe you get lucky and you get a really great season out of Tyler and you have the problem of deciding which high value piece to trade. I like to hope for the latter, but the only way we find out if he can be a solid SS is to play him at SS. I agree with most of this except for Alexei giving us the best chance to compete in 2016. SS is maybe the 1 position where the young guy has a very very reslistic shot at matching the current veteran production, both offensively and defensively, and maybe exceeding it. Saladino looks like a player to my eyes, but I think the $10M or whatever saved is even worth a slight downgrade if that so happens to be. Man, Now I'm having dreams of an Arenado Saladino Sanches triple GG threat infield
  6. Arenado would solve a lot of problems for the Sox and I don't think they have to trade Q. Maybe Anderson, Micah & Johnson? I dunno. But what I do know is that we should get that guy.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) I'm totally in favor of the first part and I think it's the right move. I don't see any obvious bat candidate in this organization who can fill that 3b role in the next few seasons though. I agree. We'd be sitting pretty right now if Davidson didn't pee his pants. My gut tells me Saladino is a way better shortstop moving forward than Tim Anderson. Anderson & Micah should be traded for a really solid Catcher or 3B.
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) The crazy thing is Schwarber, Bryant, or Rizzo would be the best players on our team. Russell would be the best fielder on our team. Why would Bust, Bust & Bust be our best players right now? And Bust would be the best fielder? C'mon. This is junk NL ball they play. They miss all the good starters, bullpens are horrible and #2-5 starters throw 88-92 MPH. It's junkball.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) I wonder if Latos would be willing to take a 1 year deal to up his value because he will only be 28 next season. Then, have a rotation of Sale, Quintana, Latos, Rodon, Danks/Johnson. Sign Heyward. Trade Montas, Micah, Hawkins, Davidson, and Danish for Seager and Taylor or Longoria and McGee. Yes. Plenty of pieces to get deals like that done.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) Trading Quintana is all speculation at this point... I don't know why some of you think it's 100% going to happen I agree. I'm of the opinion that we have a pretty big stash of quality minor leaguers now. I know it's not a sexy list and won't make the top 100s...but I think other GMs would like a lot of our guys. We have some serious bullets to fire if we want.
  11. Trade Quintana? You guys are crazy! Who the hell would pitch for the Sox next year then??
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) Okay, he's a young guy, and he's strong. But is still necessary to throw him the extra inning to get to 116? That must be how Robin/Cooper evaluate their starters - if they feel fine, they stay in, regardless of performance. Yea, that must be it.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) Before we mock the Sox, let's go see everyone's pre-draft scouting report on Chris Sale. Boom goes the dynamite
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Liking the long at-bats Yea! If we grind him a bit more next inning maybe he only goes 6 and we get to play teeball for 3 innings
  15. Sox need to score a few more quick ones for Danks. Seattle has hit some balls pretty damn hard against hin
  16. Balta how bout that high change he threw Cruz to strike him out. Yikes!
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 11:41 PM) Rodon is developing nicely. He's more efficient and working his change. Sooooooo glad he's learning at the MLB level. What an absolute developmental stagnation it would have been to leave him in AAA. Imagine if he was dominating AAA junk players all year never knowing how much better he would have to be. Hats off to the White Sox once again for having the foresight to bring him up when they did and to not listen to the knee-jerk media when he struggled a bit at first. Whew!
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) What does Santos have anything to do with Matt Davidson? Everything. Sox are generally good at winning trades
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) i have been very critical of the sox ownership as anyone here. but they are not going any where. so how to fix this streak of ineptness from the sox org, a new harsher directive ..... get rid of the good ole country club inner circle of no accountability. LDF- i like the family style at the top. But i do kinda side with the people who say we need to change the way we develop hitters. Or draft hitters. One or both of those has some problem clearly.
  20. People dog the FO for 2009-2013 but damn those teams looked solid. The trades for JFP & TCQ looked ilike absolute masterpieces and the dudes just didn't work out. Nobody could have predicted their injuries and the wins they cost us. Healthy TCQ and healthy JFP and we're talking about plenty of division titles IMO. I think you're an asshole if you blame the FO for lack of playoffs post 2008.
  21. I'm so proud of where we are now and where we are headed. I'm still in awe the way KW & RH flipped cores in a matter of like a season. Remember our aging expensive BS team just 2 years ago? All gone now, no real money on the books looking ahead, great young talent performing at the MLB level and a farm system that is starting to look RRRREALLY good. The Sox flipped the core so well that we actually had a shot at the playoffs this year! f***ing incredible job. I can't wait for the next few years as it will only get stronger. Kneel to your masters Kenny & Rick.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) I'm not moving Quintana. I'd do Montas, EJ and Micah. Whoa! Might as well throw in Anderson & get Trout.
  23. I think 2k5 is on the right track. I think the Sox know he doesn't have what it takes "between the ears" as Hawk says. Sox don't trust him and don't want to expose him. He's trade material this offseason is my bet.
  24. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Saw this in another location, I can't take credit for it but I thought it was interesting and touches upon your point: http://www.statcorner.com/CatcherReport.php "Tyler Flowers turns 1.89 balls per game into strikes, good for the fourth-best average in the league. At first glance, that looks wonderful. However, looking further down the list, guess who is #19 at 1.09 extra strikes per game? That's right, Geovany Soto. In other words, the White Sox are happily trading 84 points of OBP and 128 points of SLG, not to mention a higher passed-ball frequency (10 in 673.1 innings for Flowers vs. 4 in 372.2 innings for Soto) and a worse caught-stealing percentage (23% for Flowers vs. 27% for Soto), for eight-tenths of an extra strike per game." Mark That makes it sound horrible. I suppose there are intangible factors at play as well. Maybe the dude just calls better games or creates a comfort level that we can't quantify.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) While I agree with you, the Devil's Advocate reply is....are you ready to give Samardzija a ~$7 million raise from this year? I see your point but I think that seven million is the cheapest way to get a solid 200 innings without further commitment. What are the chances Shark accepts that QO though. He's running out of years to land a megadeal.
