Of course they aren’t signing Rodon. I’ve had my hopes up for over 20 years that they’d sign a real free agent. Something broke in me this year. I actually know they won’t now for the first time. But….at some point, you’d think they’d see this 20-30M per year on 4 shitty 0-.5WAR vets could be spent on 1 single 5WAR player. Surely this is the year! Rodon!

I’m thinking we’ll be surprised and see a total pivot to younger, plus defense and beefing up the SP. Here are some high level moves to get there: Eloy DH full time. New stud LF. Colas breaks camp as RF. Andrew Vaughn is traded to address LF. Abreu resigned. Rodon gets huge deal from Sox. 2B black hole filled from within, maybe Harrison. Catcher I don’t even know.

They had a chance to change the game, change the fan demographic of Chicago and grab a whole generation of young fans nationally. They could have been the face of baseball. And they whiffed on that chance over saving 10s of millions.

I actually made the mistake a few years ago of thinking the Sox were way ahead of the curve with relievers. Like they had 5-10 Codi Heuer’s on the way. I thought for sure their pen was going to be set up as a rotation of league minimum guys feeding a pipeline of trades etc. Our ace in the hole. Then all of a sudden none of that materialized and we have a 50M bullpen of past-peak veterans. Awesome.

The whole not having a punishing offense thing really highlights stats like this.
