  1. QUOTE (flavum @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) I think what he means is if Gillaspie was there at 44, of course the Sox would take him, because that's the White Sox way with relatives. That said, he'll be gone before 44 based on what I've read. He's indeed getting late 1st round hype as of late. Unlike some past nepotism, Gillaspie would be quite worthy at 44. He might even be a steal there.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Gillaspie is a lock for us at 44 right? No. There isn't even a lock at 1-1 in this draft. Calling a lock at 44 would be absurd.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Question for the masses: I want to subscribe to either Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus and am wondering which you guys prefer for prospect information? I enjoy both the Effectively Wild and Baseball America podcasts quite a bit and can't decide which I'd rather give my money to. I'd personally go Baseball America, as they have much more draft coverage than BP and that's what is going to be interesting throughout the next month or so.
  4. Virginia/Maryland is also underway. I'll list the current BA draft rank in parenthesis. Plenty of interesting draft prospects in that one. Jake Stinnett (66) pitches for Maryland. He's a legit talent who is a senior and could provide some draft savings due to lack of leverage. For Virginia, most people already know plenty about Derek Fisher (30), as he was one of the most touted college bats to begin the season. OF/1B/DH Mike Papi (45) is a little less known around here but he could be of interest to those who like Casey Gillaspie. OF Brandon Downes (171) is worth mentioning. Lastly you have RHP/1B/3B Nick Howard (25) who has serious helium. Callis wrote about him just today actually. Fun day to be off work!
  5. Plenty of college baseball streaming on ESPN3.com today for those interested in draft prospects. Beede facing Mississippi as I type this. Just started.

  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Looking at the standings, none of the teams toward the top need a SS right now. The NL Central trio of StL, Pit and Cin were the three we always discussed, but the Cards have Peralta now and the two other teams are out of contention. I'm not counting out either of Pittsburgh/Cincini this early.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) I just can't picture anyone besides Alexei having significant trade value right now. Which is why I hope Hahn is dangling him this season for a significant overpay. Sell high please.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:31 PM) Not a very good throw by Eaton at all. Wat.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) Luke Weaver in the 2nd round seems like it would be a pretty good pick. Yep. I've been meaning to post as such but haven't gotten around to it. Especially true if the Sox end up with a prep pitcher with the 3rd pick. A fast-moving college arm with the second rounder would be ideal. Weaver is legit.
  11. Can this be merged with the existing draft thread? Rather not have to keep up with both.
  12. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB 1m Not impossible but unlikely. @Doug_ssorG: you don't think there is any way the @WhiteSox take Alex Jackson over a P?? Expand
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) If they were both available, I wonder if the Sox would take Aiken or Kolek? It's funny, as I seem to change my mind weekly about who I would want them to take if they had the first pick. Rodon is the safer pick of the three, but who knows how his slider adjusts to the different baseball in the majors. I would love to see one of the big name catchers fall into the 2nd round. I'm firmly on the Aiken train. Sorta kinda preferring an underslot Freeland over Rodon currently too. He's getting rave reviews. BA loves him. Getting a Chris Sale vibe from him. Lanky lefty, similar armslot, similar pitch mix too (though the change isn't stellar).
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Wonder if someone said something to Avent with Rodon's pitch counts reverting back to an acceptable number. Not entirely sure, but it sounds like his performance tonight was underwhelming according to most industry sources.
  15. John Manuel ‏@johnmanuelba 1m Sounds like @CarlosRodon16 is coming out after 5 IP and about 107 pitches. 5 IP 8 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 SO ... 2nd straight game at 107 pitches
  16. Might be there with a coworker Cubs fan who mentioned it last week.
  17. Clint Longenecker ‏@Clint_BA 4m Rodon 90-93, touching 95 thru 3 vs VT. 2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks. 11 swinging strikes. 70 pitches. Favoring slower mid 80s SL.
  18. This is all in the draft thread already.
  19. Kiley's first mock: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1403161.html
  20. Aaron Fitt ‏@aaronfitt 1m I'd take Freeland in top 5-6 picks. RT @TommyM44: meanwhile in Springfield, MO, another lefty has this line. 6.2, 2 hits, 0 runs, 11 Ks Expand
  21. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 15, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) just curious -- how many of the top guys will be represented by Boras? Will that influence who the Sox select? Rodon Jackson Conforto Fedde Those are the ones that are more or less "confirmed" to have Boras representation.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 14, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) I don't think anyone is saying that -- but there's legitimate reason to believe that Kolek may be one of the biggest injury risks EVER. At that point, it needs to be a consideration, IMO. Not going to post the response to your question? http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/201...prospects-chat/
  23. Draft chat at 1:30 if you have questions to ask. http://www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1400080672
  24. Freeland at 5 sure is interesting.
