  1. Perfectly content rooting for losses and have been since it was evident that this team wasn't even close to sniffing the postseason. This organization and its farm system needs the best possible draft slot, the biggest possible draft pool, and largest international pool they can get.
  2. Woo. Way to choke! Keep racking up those losses. You may win next year.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) If I understand the new system, that would cost Boston a first round pick and barring a winning streak would cost us a 2nd round pick, so it's also possible we could have a shot at that. If the team doesn't have confidence in Phegley, snapping up McCann and another 1b whether it's Abreu or someone else could really turn this team around rapidly, if they can get their heads on straight or replace the manager with someone who can. You have it correct in that Boston would forfeit it's first round pick for signing McCann considering he will receive a qualifying offer from Atlanta. Boston will almost assuredly receive a compensatory pick if/when Ellsbury leaves as a free agent. Said pick is tacked on at the end of the first round though. I don't disagree that McCann and Abreu could be some nice pieces for a team that desperately needs some legitimate hitters. I'm just not optimistic that McCann ends up in Chicago even if Hahn wants him.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) Do they believe it enough to run him out there again next year after his struggles this year when there's an all-star catcher sitting on the free agent market? McCann seems like a huge long shot to me. He's by far the prize of an awful catching market and will have plenty of suitors. I'd wager he will be snapped up quick by Boston and he's a perfect fit there.
  5. This game is fun-bad so far. Dropped catch by Phegley, Dunn throwing the ball into center field. Not turning a routine Double Play. Good stuff.
  6. This should be the gamethread. Axelrod just isn't very good. He's always been a fringy guy.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) I'll be shocked if Sox don't sweep this series. With regards to draft pick slot, just have to hope for an awful road trip. Yep. Quite disappointing.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) Law always liked Hawkins -- which is interesting, because he is very much like Avisail Garcia, who he doesn't like They aren't very similar actually.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:43 AM) ...and now within 4 games in the loss column for the 12th pick in the draft. Ugh.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) Astros have played too "well" for the Sox to catch them. It's game on vs the Marlins to see who gets the 2nd spot. It's definitely a weird feeling hoping the Cubs win. I'm more worried about falling out of the top 3 then getting number 2 at this point.
  11. Beck striking out people again in his second AA start. Sure hope he keeps it up.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) I'd hate to see anyone block Andy Wilkins at this point, so a big no to this signing. This post is in jest, yes?
  13. A much better alternative to Choo/McCann etc that probably aren't realistic targets anyways. If you are going to drop some cash, do it for a guy who is in his prime who fits an immediate need. Even if there is an acclimation period, you would pencil him into the core of the White Sox when they are hoping to contend in 2015+. Go for it.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) This^ is the major point. The team is bad, and we have no choice but to eat it for a while to rebuild a core. Fortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to take more than a season or two, but if we refuse to suck it up, we're just going to be middling pretenders in the mean time and push the real window out even further. Ding ding ding. I'm starting to glaze over the posts suggesting we sign McCann/Ellsbury/Choo. It's not going to happen. If the Sox chase anyone it will be a tier below the names previously mentioned. They will likely make some inoffensive, smart, feasible, short-term signings on players who have a chance to help and can be flipped at the deadline for something of value. This would expedite the rebuilding process in a sense and possibly add a player or two to the core if they get lucky.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 01:41 AM) God I'm tired of people calling Carlos Rodon "Rondon." Seconded.
  16. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Get a look tonight on MLB Network. Kid's stock is gonna blow up between now and the draft. Should be top 5 pick. Yep. I think Callis has him number two behind Rodon at the moment. Early disclaimer and all, but looks like a pitching heavy top end of the draft. I'm okay with this consider the Sox track record with pitching.
  17. So Beck struck out some dudes for once. In AA no less. I hope to see more of that because his K numbers in W-S were pretty woeful.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) Semien walk and homer Two very sexy outcomes.
  19. JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1m White Sox are not getting Perez, Jackson or Odor for Rios but if price drops to Nick Martinez it could get done...tick tick tick tock Expand
  20. For whatever reason I never took a look at Francellis Montas' numbers from the Peavy trade. Color me very intrigued. The strikeout numbers are great, the walks acceptable and he's in an age appropriate league. Looking good in his debut tonight so far.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) The amount they signed was directly tied with the money they spent. You know why? They signed top players in the free agent pool. Thats a serious reduction in what the can spend because it probably wont be a top 20 player for that price. Obviously. But the Rangers aren't "blocked" next year. They are just going to have to spread that money out more or trade away cap space if they want.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) Going over the cap for international signings like the Rangers did this year(signing multiple free agents) means your blocked the next year. No it doesn't. It doesn't block signings. It limits the amount a team can offer to an international prospect to either $500,000 or $250,000 depending on how much they went over their pool. And it has nothing to do with the amount of signings the Rangers made, but the amount they spent.
