  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) Who is Kiley McDaniel? National baseball writer prospect draft dude. Has written/analyzed for ESPN, BP, Scout.com, Fox Sports, etc. You can kind of lump him in the Parks, Badler, Callis, Sickels, Cooper, Piliere group. He's also the guy that broke Zapata to the White Sox way before it was official.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) I can't see Turner being in play for the White Sox given who's in the system. Who's in the system that would likely be better than Turner if he's worthy of the 2nd overall pick? I can't think of one, especially at SS where he will stick. You can't draft for need, especially with a farm so bereft of talent.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) Except for the wall, pretty much what he's done all year The walks will be what excites me with him. More.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Thanks for the info. I just saw a comparison to Verlander for him. The great thing about having such a high pick is that if a few players blow up (ie: J. Gray this year), you're almost guaranteed to get a big time prospect. For the most part, gone are the days of salary demands for top prospects causing them to fall in the draft. Super early, but it really looks like college pitchers are going to dominate the top of the draft where the White Sox will sit. Some pretty good prep bats too, but not much in the way of college bats (save Trea Turner) which I'm sure will disappoint many around here. I've always been a proponent of BPA and it has to be the case when likely picking in the top 3.
  5. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Apparently he's looked fantastic in this year's Cape Cod. Kiley McDaniel talks about him in a recent podcast. Ahtletic, fastball sits around 95, three plus pitches. Just a name to keep in mind. Video. Draft/Cape/Team USA talk starts at about 15 minutes in for anyone interested.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) What do they like about him? His numbers are nothing special. http://www.ecupirates.com/sports/m-basebl/...3/teamcume.html Apparently he's looked fantastic in this year's Cape Cod. 7. I see people mentioning Tyler Beede, but Kiley McDaniel and a few others are now super high on East Carolina pitcher Jeff Hoffman. He could very easily be the 2nd (or possibly even 1st) pitcher taken in this coming draft.
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) I am really hoping that the White Sox draft Jacob Gatewood because he has the highest ceiling and the most potential in the entire draft class. His power tool has to be rated 70-80, but where dose he play defensively. He's 6'5 190, so it is safe to say that we wont be playing SS in the pros, so a move to the OF seems like a possibility. He's going to be a 3B.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) The Tigers were somewhat desperate and probably overpaid to get a guy who can fill their shortstop hole right now, they were even willing to sacrifice offense because they could get that elsewhere in their team. Correct on all accounts.
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Archie...I'd rather have the potential impact bat in Garcia. ... You'd rather have Garcia then the top pitching prospect in all of baseball with top of the rotation potential to slot along side Chris Sale? I'm not on WSI by mistake am I?
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) From what I heard AZ was offering a similar package to what we got but they want us to foot quite a bit of his bill. I would guess mgmt wanted to unload the entire contract if they could, and they did. I mean would a package around Bradley really do anything for anyone on this board? How about getting Holmberg back and eating salary? Wait what? Jackie Bradley? Archie Bradley? As in top 20 prospects in baseball? I would be ecstatic if that was the return.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) I personally would put Johnson ahead of Garcia still. Call me crazy. Same.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Hopefully into scouting and development. This. Hopefully not in Granderson.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Nothing's wrong with Keith Law -- Garcia is a bag of tools that doesn't know how to hit yet at the Major League level.. This is a perfectly rational opinion. So far in the MLB, he's swung at 41% of all pitches he's seen OUTSIDE OF THE STRIKE ZONE. Wait. So you are telling me we didn't get an elite top 30 prospect who garners Miguel Cabrera comps mainly because he looks like him? The Keith Law hate is pretty funny too. He didn't like Sale before the White Sox drafted him, he must hate the White Sox. He didn't like Garcia before the White Sox acquired him. Clearly he hates the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) If Sox do get number 2 pick, and the Astros take Rondon. Who do you want the Sox to take? I'd like Tyler Beede Gatewood and has been for a while.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) I think we did a good job. I think we "won" the Peavy deal in that we got an elite prospect, ate no money, and in general struck while the iron was hot - it also opened up a spot for Rienzo/Johnson down the stretch in the rotation. Matt Thornton for Jacobs - winner (though I'm sure BoSox are happy to have Thornton right now). Jacobs is a nice prospect who has a real shot of at least getting a cup of coffee in the MLB. Could do substantially more than that with his talent level. Jesse Crain for ??? - we'll see, but Hahn did a great job of finding a way to extract as much value from that bad situation as possible. The White Sox certainly did not get an elite prospect back. They got a 50 to 100 prospect back. He's no where close to being elite.
  17. Pretty s*** deadline to be honest. Meh return for Peavy. No money kicked in at all and neither Rios or Alexei moved.
  18. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) Oh, he plays third. I thought for sure he played short. My bad. Castellanos is actually a LF. He started at 3B but he can't really hack it there and is blocked by Miggy.
  19. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) So, why would Detroit trade for Iglasias, instead of promoting Castellanos? Because they will need a SS?
  20. South Side Sox ‏@SouthSideSox 1m Then there's this. / RT @based_ball: Avisail Garcia has Triple-A's ninth-highest swing rate, 18th-lowest contact rate (sample = 365 players) Expand Food for thought.
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:19 PM) Isn't Olt a busted prospect with concussion problems? Yeah, sounds promising. CJ Edwards was the centerpiece of that trade.
  22. Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 13s Pirates have no plans to move Class A standout Tyler Glasnow. Still plenty in system to get Bud Norris. Alex Rios remains a target as well. Expand
  23. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 46s Word from #WhiteSox is that Rios is fine after fouling a ball off his left foot. At this point, however, does not appear likely to be moved. Expand
  24. Pretty underwhelmed currently. Hoping that changes tomorrow due to what Bucket is alluding.
  25. Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo 4s The Red Sox will assume the close to $20 million remaining on Jake Peavy's salary for the rest of this year and next. Expand Time to send Alexei and Rios somewhere plus cash to fortify the farm Rick.
