Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
DirtySox replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Actually posted about Floyd for Deck+ yesterday. Was a big fan of his in the 2010 draft. He's not some super sexy high ceiling starter, but he's got a workhorse body and 3 useful pitches. He's a middle of the rotation type and a pretty safe bet to stick. I like my toolsy high upside prospects, but a system also needs safer high floor picks like Deck to balance it out. I hope something gets done. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) Soxtalk at it again. Treating one of our very own like a cheap prostitute. 2005, anyone? Go, JD. I'll always be thankful for you ending our 95-year title drought. Nice. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 06:35 PM) Well f*** JD too then. He can just go play with his current team...oh wait, no one wanted him. Pretty much. Continuing to act like a petulant child, just as he did during free agency. -
2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
DirtySox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) If they sign Cespedes...I kinda hope he starts at Charlotte...both because I want to see De Aza play, and because I hate seeing them do things like they did with Alexei...where he basically sat on the bench in April 08 because he was struggling and they had other guys who weren't. I hope he would start in the minors as well. Most scouts are of the opinion he needs some minor league time, which concurrently would allow him to acclimate to the new culture. -
Somewhere in between. A solid regular who might make an all-star game or two during his career.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) repeat after me: at this point in time, Quentin didn't HAVE value. Quentin. Didn't. Have. Value. There you go. Good luck my friend. You aren't going to change the minds of the pouting anti-rebuilding club.

White Sox are Stuck in the Middle http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/w...-in-the-middle/ Dude doesn't know that Danks has a NTC this year, but otherwise it's a pretty accurate assessment I'd say. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Can't be worse than last year. Seriously, can't be worse than trying to win and failing badly. Indeed. Not even being close to expectations was pretty crushing.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) We can win. Just win like 80 games. It's crap. KW's fickleness is gonna put us in the perpetual 75-85 win window. That does nothing, but just make us "competitive" for most the year. In between is the worst place to be.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) He clearly doesn't like the Sox, but what is there really to like about the organization right now? Not much. And I hate this we can still win while rebuilding garbage.

Let's get the vitriol going. keithlaw keithlaw It's a win-now-fire-sale! RT @MattKDeMello: @keithlaw Why are the Sox going into fire sale mode & not getting anything worthwhile in return? 3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) Disagree. One of the two guys from the Padres, and possibly Marinez from the Marlins, will stick with big league team before July 31st. We just opened up another spot in the pen with the Frasor move. As far as defining impact, Hernandez could evolve into the Matt Thornton role quite easily. That LH reliever slot in the 7th-8th inning is plenty impactful, IMO. Get the general point...let's just see how the next 24 months play out and then we can argue about all of these guys, including Zach Stewart. You sure are confident that the majority of the Sox farm system will pan out. Considering the Sox track record of producing adequate major league contributors via the farm, I think you should lessen your expectations a bit.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) The kid we got from the Padres has all the ability in the world to be a B+ or better, just like Molina. You start the Futures Game, that means everyone is baseball is aware of your existence. Castro certainly has the ability, but after a disastrous 2011 season he needs to translate that ability to results once again.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) We've loaded up on C/C+ prospects. That really can't move a system that much, really at all. Bingo. The only impact (arguable) prospect Kenny has acquired thus far is Nestor Molina.
-
What's the payroll sitting at now? I wonder if Kenny is done trimming.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) I don't care how good your farm system is, if a guy isn't in your top 20, he's not very elite, even if it makes him a top 5 or top 10 in the White Sox system. No one has claimed any of these prospects are elite. They are the return for Jason f***ing Frasor. A projectable prep arm who could end up being a 4th or 5th starter, or long reliever is a mildly interesting return for a salary dump. What's the problem with that?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) According to Sickels, these guys aren't in Toronto's top 25, so while there is always a chance either could pan out, they probably won't, which indicates to me, salary dump. Of course it's a salary dump. But Jaye is interesting. Not Nestor Molina interesting, but a projectable prep arm interesting. And not being in the top 25 doesn't tell the whole story considering the Blue Jays have the best farm system in baseball.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) I doubt the plan was to pick up his option and trade him before spring training, although I suppose its possible. I'd probably agree. Just saying Jaye is mildly interesting as a prospect.
-
Now trade Floyd and call it an offseason.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) There doesn't seem to be much "value". The 22 year old has been terrible and the other kid the Sox passed on drafting 17 times. I don't necessarily think this is a bad trade, it may enable the Sox to sign the Cuban or bring someone else on board, but the current return is really nothing and considering they could have let him walk for nothing, it makes picking up his option a curious decision, but as it works out, no harm, no foul. Jaye has some value. The Sox and others likely passed on him because he was seeking and received an overslot bonus. Hopefully you know by now how utterly cheap the Sox are in the draft.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I am sorry but I don't agree with Balta that this trade had to happen. Shedding salary is one thing, but KW said we would be only trading for major league ready prospects. These two guys aren't it. Maybe Kenny needs a lesson on how to rebuild and remain competitive? I am very dissapointed to say the least. We had a real good player in CQ. He swings a good bat with power. He is a hardnosed player. We basicaly gave him away. Why do people think that teams are willing to give up quality, cheap, and major league ready prospects so easily? These are known as assets, and teams that have them generally would like to keep them unless they are blocked or are being traded for high end established veterans. Carlos Quentin doesn't warrant such a return.
-
The other side of rebuilding, for your consideration...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Doesn't the phrase "Sustained excellence" require that you also compete in 2012? Because otherwise you're not "Sustaining" excellence, you've taken a year off from it. The Sox aren't close to sustaining anything remotely similar to excellence at this point.
