  1. JeffPassan Jeff Passan International bonuses undergoing drastic overhaul. Among the biggest: Starting in 2013-14, teams can trade $ from their international pool. 4 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply JeffPassan Jeff Passan For example: Worst team in baseball gets $5M to spend internationally. If team doesn't want to spend it all, it can trade $ to another team. 3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply JeffPassan Jeff Passan Teams can trade for only 50% more than their international spending cap. So if a team has a $2.5M cap, most it can trade for is $1.25M. 2 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Weird. Intriguing too.
  2. DKnobler DKnobler One agent said 100 percent of GMs secretly oppose new draft rules. I'm not sure it's 100, but I think most oppose 49 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply DKnobler DKnobler Many small and mid-market teams see draft/international as only way to compete worry that owners will take that away 55 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) So basically we'd be trading Santos for Adam Dunn of old. Not entirely. Yonder will hit for more average, and less power presumably. He hasn't fully tapped into the power potential though.
  4. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) Alonso has played in over a 100 games in LF in the minors. Yonder is absolutely abhorrent in LF. It's one of the primary reasons he's being shopped. He's a 1B or DH in the grand scheme of things, and he's currently blocked by Votto. I still remember Alonso's first MLB showing in left. It was against the Cubs, and he turned a Tony Campana single/double into an inside the park HR. You can view it here. Despite his defensive shortcomings, I'm a big fan of his. He can and will hit.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) Joe Nathan to Texas. Guess they're seriious about moving Feliz to the rotation this time. 2 Years, 14.5 million guaranteed, with a 2014 team option. Methinks Kenny can get a better return in a Thornton trade than people think.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) You just don't get how things work... The trade Dunn/Rios posts have to be in jest now, right? Right?
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) I can assure you that Kuhn is not eligible for the minor league phase. Losing him wouldn't be a loss to me. Same for Brandon Short. Danks could be a minor annoyance because I think he could be a solid fourth OF option. I think Doyle is the most likely to be selected, followed by Kuhn, then Danks. I don't think I would miss anyone but Doyle really. Also, not protecting Jordan is pretty telling on what's going to happen with John.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) I read the 20th is the deadline unless the weekend changed it. MLB Trade Rumors and some MLB.com articles seem to indicate that the deadline is tonight. I would check further, but I'm having some DNS issues with my internet this evening.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) I'm that convinced that either the Sox end up protecting him or something else happens before that Nov. 20 deadline. I was under the impression that today was the deadline for Rule 5 protection. Is that incorrect?

  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) I still say if the Royals acquired a top flight starter like Buehrle or Oswalt or Greinke they might be in business. They still can't win anything with that s***ty rotation. Correct. The Royals need pitching. Montgomery regressed and Lamb was a victim of TJ unfortunately. A top of the rotation type, and another middle of the rotation pitcher would set them up nicely. They really don't have any significant holes aside from the rotation. KC actually has some money to spend this offseason, but the free agent SP market isn't all that hot. They could absolutely be in the James Shields conversation with Wil Myers heading a trade package. It will be interesting to see what they do at the winter meetings.
  12. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) So the prospect seems to be a catcher with strong offensive skills and lacking behind the plate. Strong offensive skills is a stretch. He might have that potential, but he's been rather average throughout his minor league career. Like I've said about Romine many times on this board, I don't get the hype. If he wasn't a Yankees' prospect I'd wager no one would know who he is.
  13. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) He kind of does tho... he hasn't even been exposed really to Triple-A yet. He def needs a few months there, IMO. Agreed, which is why I don't think AJ would be going anywhere.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) On the off chance this does happen, it seems to make "Moving AJ" much more of a priority. Presuming that Romine doesn't need anymore minor league time?
  15. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Montero isn't that bad at catcher... he really learned a lot this year from Tony Pena in ST and reports were he greatly improved his defense but theres still a lot of work to do. He's only 21. anyway... I don't see any noise of this trade anyway so I doubt it's true. I've yet to read or talk to a reputable source that believe Montero will be a long term fixture at catcher.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) If he doesn't stick at catcher, of course, that dramatically reduces his value, esp. since 1b is kinda full. Not sure what the Yankees will do with him. Might treat him like the Victor Martinez of late. I believe most scouts believe he's a future DH. The bat could be f***ing ridiculous though.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) He was still a top 100 in MLB prospect coming into the last 2 seasons based on BA's rankings Ranking in the 90's I believe. And yes, Montero absolutely will not stick at catcher for the Yankees. The value is all in that bat of his.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Just saw his minors stats. You're right. I thought he was better than that given that he was ranked so high in the Yankees' system. I blame the fact he's a NYY prospect. Couple that with Jesus Montero in front of him, and his name is everywhere in any Yankees trade proposal.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) It'd be a phenomenal trade if KW pulled that off. Seriously doubt the validity however. Phenomenal why? I wouldn't hate the trade, but Romine isn't someone to be giddy over. It would be an adequate return.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) O.o. I really doubt that, but if that happens, awesome. I'm not so confident in Flowers' ability to make consistent contact, so it'd be nice to get a top tier catching prospect. Link? Romine is hardly a top tier catching prospect. He's more of an average regular if things pan out. Still somewhat valuable though.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) This organization continues to confuse me. I've always maintained that the organization never thought highly of Kuhn. I probably would have protected Doyle though. Danks just isn't very good aside from his defensive value.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) Sounds a little like MB. He'll probably be selected in the Rule 5 as he's not currently protected.
  23. I'd rather have Sanchez than Romine. Don't understand the fascination with him.
  24. Not very. I'll be excited if Kenny goes ahead and does rebuild instead of this guise that the 2012 team will somehow be contending for anything.
