QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) I don't believe it. I agree with Marty here. As do I. But I would wonder if you could get better value for Santos at the trade deadline. Though it seems teams might be paying a premium for closer/high leverage relief types this offseason, so who knows?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Yes! Yes indeed. Get this train back on track. It isn't hard to identify the model that has and is continuing to lead to success in recent times. Invest in amateur talent, and fix the godawful player development. Use these tools to augment the moderate to above-average payroll and spending on free agents. There is no excuse for a major market team like the White Sox to not emulate what the premier franchises have been doing for years now.

jaysonst Jayson Stark Hearing new labor deal wouldn't eliminate draft-pick compensation. But teams would only have to give up top pick if they sign "elite" player 3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

MDGonzales Mark Gonzales KW sounded less than lukewarm on the prospects of Buehrle returning. 7 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply ESPNChiSox Doug Padilla KW tried his best to sound optimistic on Buehrle. Didn't sound good though. 4 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply CST_soxvan Daryl Van Schouwen Williams on Buehrle had pessimistic, realistic feel: "There’s a time for everyone to come. Jim Margalus has noted this plenty as well. It's ridiculous that many of the beat writers have been noting De Aza as not ideal, or non traditional as a lead-off hitter. He's more f***ing ideal than Juan Terrible Pierre. The White Sox beat-writers are awful. Truly a shame that Ballantini was the one canned.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) Thank you. The problem with the system isn't just lack of any quality depth, it's the approach to the farm system. They refuse to invest in it at a level even close to the rest of baseball so the only way to restock it is to deal for prospects. If they are cutting back on payroll you must build from within to sustain any kind of success. That is the importance of the system. As you can see, the franchise is a f*cking mess because of all this. I like this post. It's funny that people think they can maintain the status quo and all of a sudden the farm is going to get better. I'm fine with multiple down seasons if the organization addresses the issues that are apparent to almost everyone. Though, I'll wager the organization continues to be in between while denying any problems exist. I'm with Marty on this one.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) If you get good value for him, then why the hell not? He's another mediocre year away from losing his starting spot. Would the Sox really get good value for him? Seems like they might be selling low.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) That said, the bigger reason I don't want them to pay-up to sign him is because we are not winning a WS with this line-up and the couple muppets like Rios and Dunn we are committed to. I would rather them use the money to sign some younger players or develop options with the money while we are in re-building mode. There's a lot more we could do with $30+ million than watch one of our favorite players diminish into the sunset .... Let him do that in Florida with the other elderly folk Fully agree. I hope Mark doesn't want to stick around in this White Sox mess and desires to sign with a competitive team. Maybe the Rangers make a run at him if they are unable to keep CJ. Resigning MB just makes this team more "in between." -

Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal To repeat from other day: #Marlins' top priority is adding LH starter: Wilson, Buehrle. Not to say they won't dabble in other areas. #MLB 8 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick If things don't work out with C.J. KCR acquires Jonathan Sanchez for Melky Cabrera
DirtySox replied to flavum's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Is that Jonathan Sanchez? The guy who threw the no hitter and who people keep suggesting KW/Coop might trade for? Yes. Looks like a beneficial trade for both sides. Especially since this opens up a spot for Lorenzo Cain. .312/.380/.497 in AAA, while playing a fine CF. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) Hogwash. Scott Merkin is easily the best. In fact, I can give you the headliner for his next five articles: "Adam Dunn is out to prove the critics wrong; has plenty left in the tank." "Alex Rios to be the next Matt Kemp?" "Jake Peavy's heart and soul finally ready to wreak havoc on AL Central foes." "Gordon Beckham says his spirit is alive and kicking." "Ozzie did it his second year, why not Robin in '12?" Nice.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) But outside of those first few rounds, the small market teams aren't signing anyone that that is falling for signability reasons. This is tremendously false. The Royals, Pirates, and Nationals have made a living at signing players seeking significantly over-slot. In latter rounds as well.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) What is there to expound on? Low budget teams have to pass on guys with the highest demands, even if they are the best players. That's why we see so many players drop because of "signability issues" to teams like Boston and New York who have no problems meeting their bonus demands. In a hard slot, they are locked into a price, so it won't matter. If they drop in the draft, it gets worse dollarwise, so the incentive would be to go to the first team that wanted you, and not to create outrageous demands to move. If you haven't been paying attention, the low budget teams that are passing on players with high demands are largely low budget in merely the draft. See the White Sox. Other than the Red Sox and Yankees, teams that need a competitive advantage in any way possible are exactly the teams picking and signing these falling players. See Pirates, Nationals, Rays, Blue Jays, and Royals. Hard-slotting will hinder the teams smart enough to take advantage of this market inefficiency (primarily the teams that need this advantage the most) and level the playing field for teams that have the resources but are too cheap/and or stupid to utilize them on amateur talent.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) If you look at the economics/baseball reasoning that you provided then it's fairly obvious they are morons. Feel free to expound. Though the issue is about dead via the CBA anyway.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Then baseball is full of morons. Insightful.
