White Sox vs Astros Game Thread 5/31
Christ. Our fifth starter got a complete game shutout and didn't lose us the game. Be happy. Or don't. But save the moaning for another day. He hasn't turned a corner, but he gave us something positive. Sheesh.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (bmags @ May 31, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) gasol is obviously awesome and an upgrade but what a ridiculous team structure to have pau noah marc and niko. Not sure why he was even mentioned. The assumption would be Noah taking a drastically reduced role so that he can be pseudo-healthy. C - Marc (34) / Noah (14) PF - Pau (28) / Niko (16) / Noah (4) SF - Snell (20) / McDermott (20) / Niko (8) Ok, yeah, it does look ridiculous. But it'd be awesome. I also just crunched the numbers and it wouldn't be possible. So...whoops. Would need to trade Noah, which as much as that would hurt to see him in another uniform, I'd get over it for Marc. Plus, is there any doubt that Noah would have a return tour a la Kirk, hopefully in a reduced role?

2014-2015 NBA thread
According to Cowley, Taj was furious about Thibs being fired. If so, I'd imagine Taj will be traded, which I kind of figured anyway. If you can trade Taj and get Jimmy told hold off on offer sheets for a few days, M. Gasol actually is semi-possible I believe.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Here's why sports are fun and also fun(ny). So I'm reading a batch of articles. Hoiberg is going to the Bulls (unless everybody is wrong) because it's been his "dream" to coach in the NBA. He's giving up a Final Four team to go to Chicago and ultimately get fired (NBA coaches are hired to be fired in 3-5 years). So in 3-5 years Fred either gets another NBA job as part of the revolving door of NBA coaches flipping from franchise to franchise (can you say Alvin Gentry?) or he returns to college ala Tim Floyd's career. Meanwhile, articles are out there saying Hornacek's dream is to coach in college at his alma mater, which happens to be Iowa State. He has an NBA job and gets along famously with his Suns' GM. The Suns have a history of letting coaches fulfil their contracts. So isn't this a nonsequitir?? Hornacek should be happy staying in Phoenix and trying to win a title (though he should dump those Morris twins or at least split them up ASAP). Meanwhile Fred should be happy in Ames winning a national title this season at ISU and being a hero in Ames forever while making a ton of money and having a bit less stress on his fixed-up heart. Both coaches should stay put. ISU wasn't a Final Four team. NBA Championship >>> NCAA Championship. Being a legend in Chicago >>> Legend in a college town. That's probably his thought process.

Abreu Finger Injury
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 30, 2015 -> 02:10 AM) They should have given him a day off after he injured it...that magic cure-all day. Just another one of the million bonehead moves Herm Shneider's done to cripple this franchise the last few decades. I nominate this for worst if even remotely serious

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:30 AM) I agree with your second sentence but the first? He's married with young boys. It's not like he and his wife will be needing the Chicago nightlife. I don't get it. He's got a heart problem; he's totally beloved in Ames with no pressure. Why the hell does he want the NBA? Plus the Bulls have kind of a crazy mix. You've got Rose and his weird upbringing with his brother and his weird stances on injuries, etc. You've got Noah who I love but is kinda wacky. You've got some very mediocre players besides Gasol, Noah and the oft injured Rose. Bulls aren't winning anything anytime soon. Crazy. I wonder if Hoiberg will replace Self at KU when Self goes to the Spurs to replace Pop someday. Probably Fred or Stephens. Why the hell will Self replace Pop and not one of Pop's assistants? Why would Hoiberg go to Kansas? And you know just as well as I do that Self won't ever leave Lawrence. He revels in being a god there, revels in that power. Rose's weird upbringing? Stance on injuries? He had a tough upbringing and was scared to come back quickly from tearing his knees. The third time he decided he wasn't afraid to. And you're forgetting Butler and Mirotic. I know plenty of married couples that don't enjoy living in college towns (and many who do) and would rather have a quiet house in the suburbs. And also, for someone who was in the NBA, I'm sure he sees the Larry O'Brien trophy as a better achievement compared to an NCAA Championship.

Which hand is it? If it's his left hand, stop playing him at first for a while.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) Oh I like Wimpy. Forgot about him. I was thinking of someone else. I'm also a wimpy fan. He brings the best out in Hawk. I legitimately can't figure out who the other one is. But in the future, Wimpy should pair with Hawk when Stone is out and Swirsky with Stone. Also, that's one way to score a run.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) I miss hawk, but glad they got a real pbp for the time being instead of giving it to Stone and letting someone like Rowand and the other replacement guy that I can't even remember the name Paciorek. I wouldn't mind Swirsk sticking around during the Bulls offseason, but a three man booth with those three will lead to Swirsk just dealing with awkward silences and anger between the two.thing Appreciated the Mirotic = LaRoche. And damn do I hate that high wall in LF.

Well, you can definitely tell Swirsky reads his pre-game notes. After years of Hawk being a soundboard, I appreciate that. Still like Hawk, but this is a nice break.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
My friend caught the Royals HR today. Her status... "Anyone that is a true Cubs fan knows that if you catch the opposing teams homerun ball, it's an unwritten rule to throw that thing back where it came from! By far one of the coolest, most adrenaline rushing experiences of my life. Wrigley Field & the Chicago Cubs are ❤ #chicagocubs #wrigleyfield" First comment; "I hope to one day do what you just did!" I just read that people enjoy teams hitting home runs against them so they can be dicks.

Hopefully Rodon is a bit pissed about not being taken #1 and racks up Ks like crazy. I also have a friend who is a Houston fan that hates the White Sox more than any other team, so it'd be amusing if Rodon slaughtered them.

Scott Carroll optioned to AAA
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 29, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) 1.6 WHIPs and 1/1 K to BB ratios don't typically yield ~3 ERAs. He's been lucky, you keep throwing him out there he will prove otherwise. LH I can't quote you but nobody likes Noesi except Don Cooper so not really the same, aha. Scott Carroll is a top five favorite player on SoxTalk. I just like him for his awesome debut when he was right handed Mark Buehrle for one game.
