  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) 2013: $11,000,000 2014: $18,000,000 2015: $19,000,000 I'm not shedding any tears for #56. I bet he's not too upset.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:14 AM) Yet you are commenting that he was definitely hit on purpose and said he wasn't re-signed because everyone hates him. How many times did he re-sign with the White Sox? I don't know if he was trying to hit him on purpose or not. I do know AJ stuck his pad right into the pitch. Everybody wins. This notion that no one can stand AJ is legendary. However, you would think a beat writer or someone, considering EVERYONE HATES AJ would come up with a laundry list of the hatred. Why ruin this thread with common sense. A young pitcher hits a former teammate. Imagine that?
  3. The Sox should have moved out of Chicago and into one of the suburbs.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Our minor league system has always been known for developing pitching (McCarthy, Hudson, Gio, Richard, etc.), just like Cooper has been known as Dr. Fix-It at the big league level. Recently, it's bullpen arms and identifying guys like Quintana, Floyd, Humber, Danks, Sergio Santos, Jenks, Nathan Jones, Reed or developing Santiago with low draft picks....then you have the up-and-coming group of Beck/Johnson/Snodgress passing "so-so" prospects who were overhyped simply because there had to be someone ranked in our Top 10 like Rienzo, Castro and Molina. Until about a month ago, most scouts would have said the one area of depth we had was those four minor league outfielders....and the possibility of Sanchez being a nifty little player. Nothing pretty much at catcher, no impact hitters on the infield corners, Sanchez/Semien/DiMichele/Johnson at middle infield (none of them considered future stars)....that's it. And all those potential relief arms. Part of the problem is drafting by who are their agents. Better players will get better agents. The strength is pitching but it doesn't seem to last long. Coop's results are not long term. The last time I seen Sale pitch makes me wonder if he will have arm problems from throwing junk instead of a fastball. I did not see a pitch clock past 92.
  5. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) Or the White Sox fans vote for the Cardinals to piss the Cubs off, because apparently Sox won the contest. I think it's got to be rigged to a degree. Or the fans mistakenly voted for the W Sox instead of the R Sox in the second round. Our team almost never wins any popularity contests. or that it's on Facebook.........Cardinals organization is superior to the White Sox in the real world.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) Detroit just beat Atlanta three games in a row. Unless Scherzer's and Verlander's arms fall off, they will win 88-94 games and be the class of the division again. That team may not be the best at catching a baseball but they got a lot of other things in their favor.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) Be glad when this month is over. I've always admired teams who constantly overcame some form of adversity, even a lack of talent in some cases. Maybe they can turn the page. Ventura wins manager of the year. Stranger things have happened....and it's not like I'm about to start rooting for someone else. There's only so much whining you can do about the state of your organization, it's player development (and lack thereof), its past decisions, its lack of vision. I am surprised that some of you who were so convinced this team would be s*** this season are so pissed off right now. Isn't this what you expected? Better to get it out in April/May, I suppose. If the Sox are destined to be the doormat in the AL central in '13 then I'll look forward to watching Gillaspie, Beckham, Viciedo, Jones, Reed, Q and even Santiago. And hopefully more of Jordan Danks. I think he's shortened his swing and looks really good at the plate these days. Give him a chance, Sox. I never had high expectations for this team in 13. I have the luxury of living out of the Chicago viewing area. There seems to be no immediate future with this organization. I would like to see the ownership sell. If not I think we are in for the same poor scouting, poor developing, bad luck in the FA market, we've seen for quite some time. It not unusual for this team to have a bad April.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) I gave Ventura all the credit in the world for how that team came out of spring training ready to play last year. He gets exactly the opposite this year for this team coming out of ST making themselves look like fools every time there's a cutoff man to hit. You would think guys would know how to do this stuff by the time they got to the majors.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) I guess, but in my opinion it's an 84-win team that may turn into a 74-win team with a bunch of injuries, and being forced to make mid-season moves. It wasn't going to be a postseason team either way, but Hawk will use the injury narrative. Why would they be forced to make moves of there wasn't going to be a post season? So we can live up to the penny pinching but at least we're competitive image that so many fans who never enter the park believe?
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) A team with this record of draft picks and people around here want the Sox to go on a total rebuild. LMAO. Some people think the MLB draft works the same way as the NFL or NBA.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) LOL that's why they trade for other team's picks. The Sox still have to put some development into them. I have no faith in that.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) That's my argument against Ramirez. $9M for a bottom-of-the-order hitter is too much even if he is a very good defensive SS. According to sabermetrics he's worth it though. What market is this do tell? Are you using the Reinsdorf-"3rd city market in a big city market" scale?
  13. I think the job of a hitting coach is always temporary. They also need new players to coach. It's not unusual to seem them make a big difference their first year. At the major league level it has to be very difficult. Most of the players have habits that are hard to change at this level. The ones that can break them usually self coached. When guys like Walker, Hawkins and Mitchell and Thompson are brought up, the logic tells me trading for prospects will be a dead end. It appears the scouting and instruction sucks. Why are they always drafting these outfielders? This organization doesn't seem to have a scout that can find a good catcher. It could also be kids don't want to play that position anymore. I think the future is beyond bleak. As long as JR is calling the shots it will be nothing but bleak. This team needs new ownership. So far nothing really stands out about Hahn either.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) Sadder is the top prospects are all struggling. Mitchell back to AA. I think his days as a prospect are nearing an end, and Hawkins with 31 strikeouts in 48 AB. He is a long way from Chicago. Two more Adam Dunns.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I agree. Gillespie has been a great find so far. If we are willing to jump off of cliffs because of the start of guys like Adam Dunn, we should probably start voting Gillespie to the All-Star team. LOL! Everyone seems to have forgotten about the 2012 Tigers. It took the last two months of the season to finally live up to expectations.
  16. Does anyone have any insight that this organization is capable of rebuilding? What changes have been made in scouting, development, ect? My impression is far more negative with guys like Viciedo. They were impressed with his hitting and overlooked everything else. That's seems to be the Sox philosophy. They don't develop baseball players nor do they draft them. If they trade guys like Rios or Peavy it should be for guys who are ready to play. Get the the impression if the organization was an NFL team they wold be more impressed by the Combine than film footage.
  17. I've been paying attention to Liptak's thread on WSI about the Sox philosophy. He's been doing a lot of investigating on attendance and other things. His conclusion is much like mine. The organization needs to be gutted from the top. New ownership is needed. So many things keep in place with no success. A new approach is needed and Hahn may not be part of that either.
  18. They need to find a naive NL GM to take him off our hands. Maybe he can't hack the AL.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 09:29 PM) Beckham, Alexei, Morel was just as bad last April. Not too long ago it was Josh Fields, Teahen. Direction so far
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) After listening to the score this morning, it made me wonder about the current direction of this team. If the Sox continue to tank and are 7 to 8 games back by July 1st, would should Hahn do? KW said last season that the White Sox are in the process of a modified rebuild. This meant that the Sox would insert young guys into the every day roster in an attempt to still compete in the process. Last year it worked. In fact, it almost worked too well. They were about a week away from clinching the American League Central before falling short. They let AJ go and inserted Flowers but they signed Keppinger and Peavy. They are bringing in veterans but yet involving younger talent. They traded away Quentin last year but kept guys like Rios and Dunn. Is this because they could not move their contracts or because they truly think they will be pivotal components to a winning team? The direction of this team is just flat out confusing. Quite honestly, if this team falters in 2013, (And I'm not saying they well!, its only April!) I want to see a many changes for this MLB roster. With exception of our young pitching, there is not one guy I would not mind trading away for prospects. I know it sounds foolish to just gut the team, but why do a modified rebuild and win 80 games, when we can do it the right way and obtain better draft picks. Isn't that the goal essentially? To continue to acquire talent for our below average farm system? Here is what I would do if they fall out of it early: This Summer: 1) Trade Peavy- His contract is reasonable and he proved to be a bulldog last year. We can likely get some mid range prospects for him. 2) Trade Rios- He is our most attractive piece right now- Can hit, play defense, run the bases- his contract expires after 2014 so he will also be attractive at the deadline. This Winter: 1) Say goodbye to Mr. White Sox- Paul Konerko. I am predicting that he will likely retire after this season. He had done it all for us but its time to move on. 2) Let Floyd, Crain walk via free agency. 3) See what the market looks like for guys like Ramirez and Beckham. Honestly, they have had more than enough time to prove they can hit consistently in the big leagues and have struggled for way too long. I am ready for a change in the infield! 4) Insert Carlos Sanchez to SS, move Keppinger to 2B and insert Connor Gilepsie to 3B. 5) Move Dayan Viciedo to 1B. 6) With the trades of Rios and the position transfer of Viciedo, this leaves two OF positions open. This would create room for guys like Trayce Thompson, Courtney Hawkins, Keenyn Walker & Jared Mitchell. Not to mention potential prospects that the Sox would get back in return from the trades of Rios and Peavy. It is time to go young, open up some payroll flexibility and move on. Obviously, if the Sox do turn things around, they can think about doing these types of moves in the winter..... I'd keep those two. You have to keep some good players. They are bad at going young. Scouting and development are not going to happen overnight. Let throw in the towel, so what if it's April. Get rid of Verlander, trade Fielder, fire Leyland....oh wait wrong team.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) This thread is this early? Damn Derrick Rose. Best post. I wasn't too giddy about this season anyway since the changes made were from subtraction. I think this season is to find out if some players will have a future on this team.
  22. Of course he isn't. What bonehead franchise in any collegiate or professional sport would put some one in charge with no previous experience?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Maybe they could invest those profits into cutting ticket prices for 2013? That'd help a lot of fans. The sleeping giants is the fan base.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Love PK, but Frank was an absolute force, I think the steroid era might have clouded some people's judgement on how dominant Frank was in his prime. No brainer it's Frank for me. He was a great situational hitter as well. I think the steroid era also clouded Frank's judgement as well at the plate. It was all about knocking the ball out of the park. I hope in my lifetime I get to see another player like that come out of the Sox farm system.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) For that matter, NOBODY would or could have reasonably predicted that Iguchi, Dye (coming off a major injury), AJ or Pods (also coming off a downward trend and "prematurely aging" with all the pounding from his minor league stolen base numbers) would have played as they did in 2005. I just find it hard to write off Alexei Ramirez based on one season where he still drove in 70+ runs. Alphonso Soriano rebounded offensively last year and how old does everyone believe he actually is? I find it funny how people are b****ing about a player who plays a position where offense production was never an issue by traditional baseball standards. We seem to follow this same cycle since production could be far better at 3rd, 2nd and DH. It's like blaming a punter for his lack of tackles.
