QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) If this trade had happened at the deadline back in July or not until January or February, this thread probably wouldn't be nearly as big. But, look back at the posts and you'll see that there was a lot of speculation of where Teahan would play, what the trade would mean for Beckham and Alexei, and what future moves will be made. So, yeah, it is actually a "small trade", but it opens a door a crack that could open wide in the coming months. I think it's purpose was that someone would actually accept Josh Fields.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Yeah I'm kinda hoping Reinsdorf wins a $120 million dollar powerball lottery and decides to use it all on payroll. I have hopes Reinsdorf will increase the payroll. You need something to compliment the stud pitching staff. I think a lot of teams will wait in signing FAs. The If the Yankees had wait a little longer they could have signed CC for less.

Someone enlighten me. How does this improve the Sox? To me it's just a trade to get rid of Josh Field. How is this Royal worth 2 or 1 1/2 players?

Greg Walker Admits Any Other Team Would Have Fired Him
kitekrazy replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know why it is but when you have quite a few home run hitters, they all seem to shut down at once. Without any speed you can walk a few of them and hope to keep the ball in the park because they won't hurt you on the bases. I doubt most hitting coaches can make a major difference in veterans. One thing I did notice that PK after having a lousy 2008, made adjustments in hitting. I don't know if Walker had anything to do with that. -
Something to consider on the potential trade front.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) I wouldn't give up big prospects for a 1st baseman. First base and DH are the easiest positions to replace. Especially when it comes to the Sox organization. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) It wouldnt be the only time Cubs fans and media have made a player out to be something that they arent, or have taken it to the extreme though. Hendry set that in motion by giving him a $30M, 3 year deal.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 01:42 AM) Why would Danks and Floyd be ahead of Mark? Peavy yes. Those other 2 guys have not passed Mark just yet. They want to cut down on Mark's innings. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) If the Sox are out of it in July in our cruddy division, people will want heads to roll. It will be ugly. That's almost impossible.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) if we are really serious to win the world series not just winning the division then we have to get alittle bold to really compete with the angels and yankees and dodgers phils etc . so trading a starting pitcher say floyd or hudson along with flowers danks viecido or whatever the padres want in our farm system to get adrain gonzales i say do it we need a difference maker in our order not just a good bat we need a a major threat like a texiera and what pretty much all the top teams have . alot of you here want this great 5 man rotation but when playoff time comes your relying on 3 starters sometimes 4 so a good lineup and bullpen is whats needed . look at the red sox lester beckett maksuzaka or st louis carpenter wainwright pinerio were sweeped and to be honest i take those guys over our top 3 of peavy danks floyd or buehrle . so having 5 very good starters is great but in the playoffs just might not be enough so trade a starter kenny package a deal a get gonzales then make other deals to fill out our pen and lineup . if were going to make a trade people lets go for it big not for guys like hawpe ross adkins hermidia or whoever there nice pieces but not the threat we need in our lineup . I say increase the payroll. Rule #1-you can never have enough pitching. There was this team in 2005 that won the World Series with four starters having complete games. They also had a lights out pen. So their goes your theory. Keep in mind the new Sox ace has been on the DL. With health issues I wouldn't trade one and hope the 5th starter spot will be around .500. BTW, capitalize the beginning of your sentences and space them so people don't blow off your posts. -
QUOTE (rudylaw @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Sox should have signed Frank in September. Put him in a Sox uniform and sat him on the bench. Maybe give him an at bat or two in a blow out. Replace Greg Walker.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) If you're a fat athlete who sees his performance decline at any point, fair or not, the first thing people are going to point at is your weight. Comes with the territory. Just ask Carlos Z. -

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) how about this possible trade we get juan pierre for linebrink and a prospect so after we woul;d be paying about 5 mil for pierre with the subraction of say 5 mil of linebrinks salary . the dodgers want to move pierre as his 10 mil a year is alot for a 4th outfielder . plus linebrink will help the dodgers pen next year an is a better pitcher in the NL i think pierre is a better and cheaper option then figgins and is a upgrade to pods and would be a good LF for us Pierre is a dumb ball player. Too many mental mistakes. -

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) i agree especially about trading burhrle im sure we could get someone good from st louis for him It's still a business. Just because he's a Cards fan doesn't mean the Cards GM is a M.B. fan. Then you have to ask what the Cards will give up then Kenny thinks is best for the team. The Card have a lot of decision to make now and it involves keeping players. -
White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent

QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) The only way I would sign Pods is for 1 year 2 mil base and incentives to DH only.I do not want him anywhere near the field. That being said we would need to get a LF and someone coming into his prime. I wouldn't be surprised is that is the offer the Sox give him. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) This could be a big indicator at which teams dump salary in this off-season. Of course we know that San Diego and Cleveland have already done large dumps. Toronto lost Rios, but that might still not be enough. I don't want the Sox to be one of them when it comes to good players. Spend the money Jerry. -
QUOTE (gatnom @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) I'm just curious as to why people seem so obsessed with our DH being able to play the field. How good a guy is at defense is probably the last thing I consider when looking for a DH. It's a nice plus, but he's going to be spending most if not all of his time off the field anyways. I ask people why they want a DH that is injury prone at the lamest position in baseball.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) The problem is that he's a waste of a 25 man spot. He has no versatility nor can he play full time anymore. Is a 20 HR 65 RBI .225 BA 100+K season worth clogging up the bases and taking up a spot that a kid could take? This is the best statement I've seen regarding Thome. I think people get caught up in his nice guy image too much.

Miguel Cabrera got drunk with Sox players Friday night?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) If youre arguing that the NFL is more fair than the MLB than why are the WS teams more diverse than SB teams (in terms of different teams winning). There are probably a ton of factors providing to this outcome but fact is, if you run a good organization you have a great chance to win, no matter what the sport. Having more money can make it easier but is definitely not always the case. In the NFL you can retain much of your talent if you are a small market team. Yes, the NFL is fair. Small market MLB teams are farm systems for the Yankees and Red Sox. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) "Proven closers" are overrated Really? How many are there and how often have they switched teams? I think the Cubs have bought into that belief. The Twins and Yankees haven't. I would say Kenny hasn't either.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 01:54 AM) "Josh Fields -- Ifhe could hit, Beckham could move to short, and Ramirez could be traded for a leadoff hitter. . . ." Big if. His fielding scares me more than his hitting. Rosy was on crack with that comment.

It use to bother me towards the end of the season when Wise would look decent. I get scared that Ozzie would really believe in this guy and waste a roster spot on him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Not sure how much the ball is actually worth, but it wouldn't surprise me if the family would sell the ball for $2,500-5,000 and that is f***ing pennies to a major league baseball organization. What if 5 people falsely advertised the same thing? There is no way of verifying authenticity. Plus the parents weren't even at the game. So they let 15, 12 year old kids go to the game unsupervised.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) If contracts werent gauranteed, then we would see things like in football, crazy upfront signing bonuses, insane incentive clauses, etc. The agents would figure out little ways to get their guys paid That still has to work under a salary cap. The NFL is the biggest game in the U.S. Having a more level playing field gives smaller markets a better chance of winning.
