  1. In tribute I decided to fire up The Show on my PS3 with '55 rosters. Minnie just hit a three-run homer off of Whitey Ford. I'm not making this up. Saving that highlight for sure. Rest in peace, Comet. Of the eighteen men to break the color barrier of the original 16 major league clubs, only five survive. Giants: Monte Irvin, age 96 Reds: Nino Escalera, age 85 Chuck Harmon, age 90 Tigers: Ozzie Virgil, age 82 (also the first Dominican major leaguer) Red Sox: Pumpsie Green, age 81
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) It does bring Rodon's name more to the forefront. I really don't think this affects the team's plans for Rodon one bit.
  3. Saving his arm for October, am I right?
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) Is it impossible to find tickets first few rows behind one of the dugouts on the weekend? Just searched a few games and found nothing close on the whitesox site. I imagine those are STH property in just about every park.
  5. Anyone who did the survey on TV/radio late last season get an email with a redemption code? I haven't. Kind of maddening.
  6. Been busy the last weekend so haven't had any chance to tune into any college ball. Exciting that my alma mater ISU is going to Vanderbilt this weekend, shame I can't see any of it. (poor internet makes streaming tough, plus I don't think I get SEC Network+) Looks like the only game on TV tomorrow is Mississippi State and Arizona. Worth watching? Any tips on guys to watch?
  7. Unfortunately it looks like this Tumblr won't get updated anymore (though looks like he'll still update the Twitter), but it isn't spring without Bad Spring Training Twitpics. Hilarious stuff.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) His name is Phillip, and what was so gross about this weeks episode? I find it funny that the pastor looks like he's wearing one of Phillips bad disguises. Probably the protagonist needing to seduce a teenage girl?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) The only thing that sounds like it is stopping me from watching is that it takes place in the 80s with the Cold War. Well, yeah, that's one of the main appeals. What about the Cold War turns you off?
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/109...adcast-schedule Looks like WPWR is the new WCIU. Printable http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/downlo...schedule_02.pdf Yeah, same thing for the Bulls since Jan 1st of this year.

  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Based on a limited number of observations, and none live, I'm hoping he develops that intimidating look that Frank had. With Frank you were on the edge of your seat knowing something great would happen. Now it's edge of your seat expecting, not knowing. I don't think that "look" is anything actually physical. It's just a case of track record.
  13. Yeah, I think wRC+ is the way to go here. I also think he will probably take a bit of a drop. In terms of first half Abreu vs second half Abreu, if we get either one I'll be very happy. It was great to see his average and his on base take such a big leap in the second half of the season, even if his home run rate dropped.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Yeah, should have a ? after it. Makes people think when they come to the site a deal has already been struck. My first impression was surprise, but also a feeling that $100+ isn't the type of money the White Sox usually allocate to starting pitchers in their 30's, no matter what the previous wear and tear on their arm/shoulder/elbow has been. Now if Rodon/Danish/Montas completely flop this season (think Matt Davidson's equivalent as pitchers...or Erik Johnson 2014), then I'd be at least more willing to consider it. You'd have to, in Hahn's position. I think even then it's a bit misleading, as if there are actual rumors/unconfirmed reports out there. Something like "any chance of a Samardzija extension?" would probably convey the idea a little better...
  15. I don't like this thread title.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 07:16 AM) Was Bassitt on the list? Click link in first post, Ctrl+F "bassitt"
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 02:56 AM) I actually really enjoy the show. I watch it probably 3 times a week. I learn almost nothing, but it's nice to have on when I'm making lunch and I can laugh at how stupid Kevin Millar is. Chris Rose knows a decent amount, but the show really evens out watching a numbers and info heavy show like MLB Now. I watch and enjoy both. I HATE High Heat though. Russo is probably the most knowledgable baseball person at MLB Network when it comes to trivia and remembering stats and standings, but my god he is so so so so so bad when it comes to analyzing players. I remember for a while last season he was saying Jose Abreu was the best player in baseball. I get that it was fun for us Sox fans to hear, but the intelligent guests he had on obviously countered that statement with Mike Trout, and he still said he'd take Abreu over Trout. And of course he thought Derek Jeter was a terrific fielder and slobbed on his knob, so that's another reason to dislike him. High Heat is one of the worst shows in sports television when Russo is on. (Like many of the old-school types who got wowed by The Triple Crown during the MVP debate of 2012, he bashes Trout for no reason. He once said "Trout is a nice little player. He's no DiMaggio.") When Kenny subs in for him like he did Monday, it's an entirely different show. I find it hilarious that he's the regular stand-in, because he makes the show completely different and invites on guys who actually analyze baseball. It's great for Kenny to have a show where he doesn't have to constantly defend analytics. It's what made Clubhouse Confidential (RIP) a great show. MLB Now pales in comparison. It's better than the original Kenny/Reynolds format, but there's still too many cheap shots/clueless former players on there.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) Too bad Quintana got stuck with 62 when he did. Terrible number. Why is it terrible? Buehrle also got "stuck" with 56. Shrug.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) I am lost, what is Intentional Talk? A god-awful show on MLB Network hosted by Kevin Millar and Chris Rose.
  20. Farmer also often calls the action in past tense, which is kind of irritating to a pedant like me.
  21. Why the Sox haven't hired Wayne Randazzo or Russ Langer yet is beyond me.
  22. Also of local interest to follow in this draft--the Kane County Cougars are now an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have the first pick. Will be cool if we get to see a first overall pick play in the area.
  23. College ball neophyte here, thinking about getting into it a bit to tide me over until Opening Day. Can someone explain the concept of "Friday pitchers" and "weekend rotations" to me?
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Yeah, you could make that argument for Walker but there was nothing wrong with picking Mitchell where we got him. People are just made because "OMG we passed over Mike Trout for him!!!" Absolutely. Can you IMAGINE, though?
  25. This isn't strictly college, but summer collegiate. Anyone ever been to a Northwoods League game?
