8/30 GT - BOS @ CHW; Porcello vs. Giolito 7:10pm
Gomez is such trash. Gio deserved a W tonight...

But there's a big difference there. Vieira can't hit the broadside of a barn at times. Burr has more control than he does, and had a better season in the minors. Guy deserves to be put in pressure situations in a lost season.

Cannot believe Gio has done this tonight against the Red Sox. Hell of a job limiting these chowder heads to 1 hit.

Eloy's Camp Unhappy: Grievance Possible
Why do I get the feeling this article was put out by his camp to put pressure on the Sox to call him up this weekend? I don’t see how he could win a grievance with the way Moncada, Kopech, and Anderson were handled.

8/29 Games
Yep. Probably just a combo of near the end of the year + facing tougher competition.

8/28 Games
One player won't stop them from taking players like Hansen. Guy was arguable 1st round talent and fell in that draft. Who knows what's really going on with him. Clearly something is still wrong. That long layoff and injury royally screwed with his mechanics.

8/27 GT - Rodon vs Tanaka
Just realized Rodon only has 1 K? Haven't been watching, so what is up with that?

Kopech called up
That makes sense. Would go along with something I found on Lopez that says he might benefit to drop him arm angle to get more movement because, if I'm not mistaken, his FB has low spin rate.

Honestly reminds me a lot of James Loney.

Sox "Opener" strategy
I believe you're also presenting it as too simplistic. These are still human beings, not machines. You would need to have some type of schedule for them so they don't get overused and potentially injured. Advanced statistics are still going to always point you towards your best pitchers, because they are always going to be the most consistent. It's an interesting concept, and I'm sure it's no coincidence the Rays are within the top 10 for ERA, but I wonder what the long-term effects are year to year. Plus relief pitchers tend to be the most volatile in terms of consistency. I could see this type of strategy really imploding certain teams if it started to become more adopted around the league.

I would, but aren't there rules? They won yesterday, so doesn't the same person do it?

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Kind of ironic how the argument can be made that as of right now, Giolito looks like he has a better chance to stick in the rotation than Lopez, given how hot he started off the year.

Cease has made final start in '18
Hell of a season by him. If he can continue to be this dominate as stick as a starter, Sox have one hell of a 1-2 punch with him and Kopech.

Kopech the latest MLB player with questionable Twitter history
Honestly, I don't find it surprising at all. The prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed until around age 25. That's the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences by controlling impulses and emotion. Teens will be teens.

Can we get a Shields rumor?
I wouldn't expect Shields going anywhere at this point. Garfien had a new Kopech podcast and said the Sox had Shields pick him up at the airport and show him the ropes around the stadium (including a game of catch) for 3 hours on Monday. The Sox also have Kopech's locker strategically in-between both Shields and Giolito. They clearly want Shields to be the go-to guy for advice. And before everyone jumps all over this with the "Shields sucks" posts - James Shields had an extremely successful pitching career. His time with the Sox may have been mediocre and disappointing, but he still has plenty of pitching knowledge that the younger guys can learn from. It's not the end of the world if he sticks through the rest of the season, and I honestly feel comfortable knowing the Sox have a guy that can eat up innings while the younger guys take their lumps and bruises as they all approach career highs in IP.

Luis Avilan traded to Phillies for Felix Paulino
Like a few have stated throughout this thread, the Sox have Fry, Bummer, Frare, plus Cedeno. Avilan was expendable. I am a little surprised more teams didn't have any interest in him. Still would rather give guys like Fry and Bummer more chances though if the Sox felt Avilan didn't have a place moving forward. At the end of the day, he was a LOOGY on a bad team with good K/9. That *should* be replicable when the time come to repeat.

Is Luis Gonzalez really this good?
Plus I have a feeling the Sox may use this depth to help fill other areas of need via trade. Good problem to have though!
