Teams don't expect Sale trade at winter meetings
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) How good is the James Shields chapter? Pretty good? I think that should be a forward written by KW, haha

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Username @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) I'm sick of the prospect fear, everyone is absurdly risk-averse. Of course Robles and Gioloto could bust. But you're going to get much more in addition to those guys. Maybe even some ML guys like Ross. The Nationals shouldn't give up Turner. If they do, it would be Turner plus a few lesser guys. The overall package would be light years smaller. And, even ML guys bust. Gordon Beckham would have looked pretty similar to Turner in his rookie season. For all we know Sale's arm could give out. The bottom line is this: 1) Chris Sale is gone in 3 years, and we aren't competing this year unless we somehow catch lightning in a bottle. 2) Our roster is painfully thin at a bunch of different positions. One impact player won't change that. 3) If we have to take too much pitching in a deal, so be it. You can turn that into position talent. 4) Would you trade Tim Anderson, plus 4-5 top prospects for an ace? Because that's basically what you're asking from the Nationals. Can we please stop this fear of losing Chris Sale induced tunnel vision, and look at the bigger picture? A large enough package of promising players doesn't need that one headliner to make sense. We're talking about the White Sox. An organization whose last best home-grown position player has been Joe Crede. The organization is inept when it comes to developing hitters. Even Tim Anderson with how well he did last year has a massive issue with plate discipline that will more than likely cause him some headaches next year once teams figure out how to pitch to him. They need a can't miss position player. The fans know it and the front office knows it. I'm not saying Gioloto or Robles aren't great returns, but if the Shelby Miller's and Jeff Samardzija's of the world bring back Swanson and Russell, then it's not insane for the current asking price of Sale. We've never seen a pitcher of his caliber become available like this with his current contract.

Teams don't expect Sale trade at winter meetings
QUOTE (Username @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) This process is so painful. I get sticking to your guns but an empty Winter Meetings would be absolutely deflating as a fan. It will be deflating no matter what happens. It's terrible when your favorite team has to trade one of the best players you will ever witness in their uniform because the organization is so bad top to bottom.

Winter Meetings Predictions Thread
Robertson gets traded and that's it. Sale stays on the team for 2017. I have an awful feeling no team is going to present a likable offer to the Sox.

Players non-tendered
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) If the Sox don't get a legit catcher from selling then yeah, i'm all about Welly. +1 He can't be any worse than the Avila/Navarro combo.

Brett Lawrie Settles
I'm happy he's back, but bring both Avi and Lawrie makes me nervous the Sox aren't going to sell... Although, with Smith gone the 40-Man is now at 38. That's 3 openings for new players if a trade is made.

White Sox News FA / Rumors / News
- White Sox' slow start to offseason CBA-related?
Trading Rodon is just plain stupid and a lateral move for a rebuilding team IMO. Why trade a 23 year old player making the league minimum who's yet to hit his prime? The Sox should absolutely be building around Anderson and Rodon for the future.- PIT/NATs in talks for McCutchen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) With how long he's under control I genuinely hesitate to move him, really did impress last year...but one thing that others have noted that does worry me with him is how he'll take to playing on a rebuilding team that has genuinely no shot and after some of his friends have been traded. He's a guy that Arizona let go because they didn't like his attitude, the White Sox benched him at least once for not listening to their staff...if they didn't think he could handle Sale being moved professionally and that it would hurt his numbers they'd have to move him also. Couldn't agree more. I love having Eaton on the Sox, but he is not the type of player you want in a rebuilding situation. I think his antics would really get the better of him playing for a losing team for the next few years.- Carson Fulmer
Absolutely needs to be starting in Charlotte until he proves otherwise. Sox never should have brought him up when they did.- The Stay or Go Game
Sale - Goes Quintana - Stays Robertson - Stays until 2017 deadline Fraizer - Stays until 2017 deadline Jones - Goes Abreu - Stays Melky - Stays Eaton - Stays until 2018 offseason Jennings - Stays until 2017 deadline I'm not expecting a ton of rebuilding this offseason. I don't see the Sox being competent enough to know what direction this team needs to go right now. Sale will be traded due to his market value and antics. I see Jones going too. Everyone else stays until the deadline because the Sox will still have their heads in the clouds and think they can win. Q and Eaton aren't going anywhere this offseason or 2017 season because the Sox will be way too stubborn with asking prices. I do think Eaton's time will be short lived though because the Sox will be so bad he'll let his mouth run and either demand a trade, or rub the front office the wrong way (he'll be pissed that Sale was traded and is not the right veteran you want being around for a rebuild).- Anthony Ranaundo signs in Korea
At first I didn't care, then I realize this means that Danish is the #6 starter? Yikes. Sox really need to address this depth issue.- Rangers prospect facing charges
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) What in the actual f*** did I just read. You and me both. How and why would someone thing that's a normal thing to do while hazing...- Guess the Sale trade
I don't know why, but I feel like Houston is going to be the one to get him, though I don't know what the package would consist of. I just feel like Boston is going to be far too stubborn with their prospects and LA are going to land someone else.- McCann from NYY to HOU
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) This has to make you wonder who the White Sox are going to have at catcher in 2017. I would like to think that McCann would have been a upgrade over their present catchers. I really think they will let Narvaez have first crack. Didn't they like the way he handled the pitchers? Plus the guy does fit into their new draft approach with his ability to take a walk. I just don't think his bat will be able to carry him as a starter.- Rule 5 roster deadline
Sox prospects in danger of being lost per MLB.com: Chicago White Sox (6) 6. Adam Engel, OF 10. Jordan Guerrero, LHP 12. Jacob May, OF 14. Courtney Hawkins, OF 25. Luis Martinez, RHP 27. Nick Delmonico, 1B/OF Sox have the 40-Man set at 38, so you have to figure two of those guys will be added before Friday.- Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) Callis talking about a package from Boston of JBJ, Moncada or Benintendi, Devers and Kopech. I would take that. JBJ can easily be traded again for additional pieces down the road.- Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) A package around Odor, Mazara and Gallo would excite me I'd rather have Verdugo and Bellinger than Mazara and Gallo. Gallo just screams bust to me.- Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) So, a question I have, is Sale the domino that teams are going to wait to fall before making other big pitching trades? I.e. Justin Verlander I would think so. Sale would set the market value insanely high if he is moved first.- Will Brett Lawrie be Non-Tendered?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) He said "they put me in orthotics", seems like he is blaming the sox for his injuries. You can blame the Sox for a lot of things, but bad medical decisions arent normally one of them But that doesn't mean it can't happen. I can totally understand where Lawrie could be coming from and be angry at the team staff. I was misdiagnosed with Meneres Disease earlier in the year by a doctor I thought I had a lot of faith in. Needless to say, I would never go back to that office again after finding out from a second opinion that their staff (including the doctor) misread my test results. When a big life-altering (and in Lawrie's case, career threatening) mistake is made it is incredibly hard to have that same level of confidence exist even if they are as accredited as the Sox. Lawrie seems like the type of volatile personality that would rub people the wrong way after something like this. A Swisher 2.0 if given the chance. And I'm not saying this is the Sox fault either, we have no clue who his cryptic tweets are directed to.- MLB Trade Rumors Predictions
Sticks out to me as rebuilding moves. Not albatross contracts, and there's potential to flip at least 2 if not all three of those guys at the deadline. I wouldn't mind any of those moves so long as the Sox sell at the winter meetings.- Fangraphs Article
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) I didn't even think of Jones as a comparable to Giles of last off-season. If we were to receive a similar deal, whoa. I don't think he would command as much as what Giles brought back, but he has a lot of value on the market. It would be foolish of the Sox to keep him if the package is there.- Free Agent Targets
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) If you're doing a full rebuild, why give sign a vet like Davis and give him at bats and playing time? Give that to a young prospect who's trying to prove himself. We might get a late bloomer. Because you can potentially trade him to a contender in need of some OF depth in July. A lot of teams that rebuild do that.- JB Shuck outrighted to Charlotte
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I'm pretty sure he can decline the assignment, and if he can, he will. He's done with the White Sox. Yep. I can't see him being back. Sox have Tilson, Coats, and May who one of could probably at the very least match his production as a 4th OF'er.- Albers option declined
He should have been gone back in July. Thanks for the insane game against the Mets, but good riddance. - White Sox' slow start to offseason CBA-related?
