Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
DBAHO replied to Wanne's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) You don't give out 5 year, $45M deals to players who achieve clear career highs across the board in their contract year. How much fun would it be paying a 35 or 36 year old Eric Byrnes $9M a year or possibly $23-$24M over the last two seasons of a back-loaded contract? Adrian Beltre anyone? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 07:04 AM) Byrnes is going to want a 5/60 contract. He's going to want that, but with so many quality OF's available in FA this off-season, I think a Juan Pierre deal (5/45) is probably more likely. So would people here take Byrnes at 9M per season? -
I saw that tackle he got in injury time (might have been from Terry). Welcome to America Becks.

A Dell Inspiron 9400. It set me back quite a bit, but I can basically play anything on there, it's really "beefed" up.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) I think the Olsen Twins look like Gremlins. And I was going to say that photo of Kimmy PA posted makes her looks like a Muppet.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) Cuz were the white sox, my question is, why wasnt duane schaffer out of a job before the draft? if he was such an integral part of it and was fired for his poor performance in work, why was he allowed to be a part in that draft, one that comes in a time of dire reloading of the farm system Do the picks we made in this year's draft look like Duane Shaffer picks compared to previous years? Poreda actually has some gas compared to Lance Broadway for instance. And what about Nevin Griffith in the 3rd?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 06:24 AM) I'm more concerned about Sweeney's average, on base, and defense. His power is what it is, I'm hoping he can be a higher on base/average guy and good defender. That power though is going to be the difference in him either becoming into Jeremy Reed or a Rusty Greer type of hitter IMHO. I'd leave him at Charlotte for the time being.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 07:55 AM) Oh and Gage goes off on the server company that closed the site for an extra day, so he was in an all around firey mood. Listen Here Hmmmm, that should be interesting.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) I assume they would put Dunn in left and Hall -- once he heals up -- in center. But who would play right? I'd hope that Yost wouldn't bench their third best hitter (Hart) in favor of the veteran platoon of Jenkins/Mench. I'd have to think if Dunn were acquired, one of Mench or Jenkins would need to go to Cincy. Jenkins is probably leaving as a free agent this off-season anyways (and would make a good replacement for Dye in fact, if the price was right). I hope for Milwaukee's sake they're not giving up Gallardo in a deal here. Still it's a ballsy move by Doug Melvin. He probably sold Wayne Krivsky on some middle infielder who's a dynamite fielder as well.

I was 3/4'ers of the way thru this, then hit backspace of my keyboard so I had to start again. Charlotte won 7-4. Richar and Sweeney hit 2 run homers, Sweeney went 2 for 4, Richar 1 for 4. Sierra started, 3IP 0ER, 1BB and 2K's, ERA below 2 now. Charlotte Box B-Ham lost 9-2. Russel got hammered, 3.2IP, 6ER, 9H, 5BB's and 3K's. Honel came on in relief pitched 0.2IP, 4BB's, 1 K and 3R. No offense for the Barons, Collaro 1 for 3, Kelly homered. B-Ham Box Winston Salem lost 7-6. Derek Reodriguez started, went 4IP with 6R, 1BB and 3K's. Valido 2 for 5, Schurstein 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Warthog Box Kanny lost 3-1. One of my guys Zazueta pitched, 6IP, 2ER, 2BB's and 1K, not a bad outing for him. Carter 0 for 4 with 2K's, Miranda 0 for 4, Allen 1 for 4. Kanny Box Bristol's game was rained out. Great Falls won 11-10. Lowe started, 5IP, 3ER. Aaron Poreda came on pitched 1IP of relief, with 1H and 2K's, ERA at 1.80. One of our other draft picks Leroy Hunt pitched in relief and didn't do as well, 1.2IP 6R off 5H with 3BB's and 1K. Great Falls Box

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) He had 9 ABs in July so lets not act like that actually means anything. He's still only 24 and has those ridiculous tools, last year in limited ABs (166) he had 9 HR, 13 2B and put up a .253/.342/.530/.872 line. That's pretty damn good for a 23 year old. He also attended KW/Borchard's alma mater which can't hurt. You just have to remember, young hitters at the major league level take time to develop. Joe Crede's a perfect example of that. Miggy Cabrera and Albert Pujols are exceptions to the rule of course. I mean look what he's done since down in AAA; You have to remember he injured his shoulder in spring training, and I don't think he got over that. I think he is now however.

Jackson's bad enough defensively as it is at first base, I can't really see him being any better in the OF. So unless one of Thome or Konerko was moved, I wouldn't have any interest. I would however, have interest in picking up Quentin on the cheap. Wonder if the D-Backs would be interested in a Dye for Quentin swap for example?

Well at least the bats are starting to produce now. I think it's a given Walker will keep his job. However, the Sox will need to get off to a better start hitting wise next season in order for him to stay long - term here I think. Of course bringing some offensive upgrades over the likes of Juan Uribe etc. will help Walker's cause significantly.

Jose Martinez Pos: OF DoB: 07/25/1988 Ht: 6'5" Wt: 170 Bats: R Throws: R Jose's currently hitting .368/.419/.621 for Bristol in 95 AB's with a 19/8 K/BB ratio. However, he doesn't like hitting as much in Bristol, he has .451/.509/.843 splits in away games.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) You're saying Mike Conley can't shoot? I respectfully disagree. Well in the future he may be able to, but everything I heard from his workouts was that his shooting was a weakness. I guess we'll see. -

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) But Darko isn't that good. At least he has upside though. Too bad he called Pau Gasol "soft" in the Serbian Press. -
The MGS4 trailer looked absolutely badass. I heard there's a new music sort of game in the mould of Guitar Hero, but it also comes with a drum kit and something, and you can basically play the whole song with all of the instruments, although it was going to cost in the $300 range.

I'll get some more details on him soon.
