I'd play him on a 2nd line with Smoke. Put Havlat - Ruutu - Vrbata on the 1st line, because those 3 guys could be around for a long time for the Hawks so let em build some chemistry together.

Houston not the only team after Garland
QUOTE(WkdJstr13 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 05:17 AM) If Jon goes anywhere I hope that its to Texas. A little while back DBAHO posted alot of usefull info on Dnaks, Masset and Hurley and it sounds like we could get more for Jon in a deal with them, provided they dont sign Zito. I really wasnt impressed with the prospects Houston was offering, I do like the idea of trying to get Taveres. Yeah Texas would probably be the ideal trading partner in my mind for one of our starters at this point, unless we get a real good offer from somebody else.

Houston not the only team after Garland
Carlos Gonzalez and Micah Owings as a MINIMUM from the D-Backs. The thing is, they're not exactly stocked with high class young pitching which is what we're after. Instead position prospects is where it's at for them.

another "great" Tribune article
QUOTE(philadelphia sox fan @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) But if it works, the outfield will be solid for the nexy 6-7 years. There is nothing wrong with starting youth in the field, you just have to know when to pull them. I wouldn't have a problem with BA and Sweeney in the OF for 2008, Jerry Owens I don't think is going to be anything more than a 4th OF though. So it's important the Sox have a power guy in there for the other OF spot, and whether that's re-signing Dye, signing Vernon Wells etc. I don't know, but I'm sure KW will do something there.

Been listening to the new Deftones CD today. Enjoying it so far, and it's been getting pretty solid reviews.

Bob Bradley named interim USA Soccer coach
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 03:17 AM) Jurgen Klinnsman wanted nothing to do with the US team. A tough European coach would have done the US team wonders. You should go all out for Guus Hiddink. Contract with Russia finishes up after the European Championships. But I think he actually wants to come back and coach Australia, and I think that's what's going to go down.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Boucher was awful and the stupid penelties were killing them. I have to say Cullimore has been playing a lot better of late....hopefully that will help in dealing him away. And Cam Barker has been playin well down at Norfolk late from what I've heard. Trade Cully, see what you can get for Boucher on the market (cos there's always teams who could be after a backup goalie upgrade). Call up Barker to replace Cully, or Richmond. And I see Wishineski (sure I didn't spell that right) has been gettin a lot of ice time since Savard took over.

So down here ATM it's really eerie. We've had bushfired east of the state about 150 miles east of where I live, yet when you go outside, it's so smoky, you can't see the sun, and it's reminding me of being back in China with all of the pollution and everything. Oh and PA, this is my Guitar (so beat that I say);

Sox lock up MacDougal for 3 years
QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) What would it take to acquire Mike Gonzalez? He would make the bullpen one of the league's best. Apparently he was offered to the Braves for LaRoche straight up. He missed time last year w/ elbow tendinitis, but now has a clean bill of health. His numbers look great especially for playing for the Pirates and in PNC. Floyd/Rogowski maybe? Wouldn't think that would be enough. Sweeney and Floyd would probably get the Pirates interested though. They're really after a LHH power hitter.

Thank you, Freddy
He was one of KW's better acquisitions, and I wish him all the best in Philly. Will be interesting to see what type of deal he gets in FA next off-season.

Sox lock up MacDougal for 3 years
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Beautiful contract. Especially when you consider a Chad Bradford gets a 3 year $10M deal. IF MacDougall can stay healthy throughout the majority of the contract, it's a huge steal, but even if he gets injured from time to time, it's still goin to look like a pretty good deal.

And so AI is finally leaving Philly. This means 2 things; 1 - Philly will now have the worst record in the NBA at season's end. 2- AI's off to Denver, Minny or Boston.

Disturbing article about the Sox's plans
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) tell me this, why in the world are the SOX considering moving Jon Garland? Because if you could get say Eric Hurley and John Danks (2 potential #2 starters who would be under our control for 6 seasons), don't you think that makes sense? Hence why they've been asking for the likes of Jason Hirsh, Daniel Cabrera and Garret Olson etc. The Sox's motto is simple, find pitchers who have the potential to be better than they guys they trade, who are younger, cheaper and under our control for longer.

Runelvys Hernandez
Could the Sox have him in mind as a power arm out of the pen perhaps? Doubt he'll cut it as a starter for us.

Some new Chicago Sports.com articles
I'm going to put this out there on Wells. The Sox are building with their young pitching. They are going to work more younger players like Sweeney and Fields eventually into the mix. That means if we're going to have a $100M payroll, we're going to have to spend it on someone. Is there a chance the Sox would rather sign a Vernon Wells to a bigger contract than say re-signing Jermaine Dye? Remote I know, but I'm trying to get an idea of what the future plans for this ballclub are. Apparently he wants a contract bigger than what Carlos Beltran got though, and if he has another season like he in 2006, he'll probably get it.

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
So Dayn Perry likes the deal. Should we be worried?

Some new Chicago Sports.com articles
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) Well Coop said on the Score today that he'd like for Gio to tryout for a bullpen spot this Spring Training, this leads me to believe that the lowest level we'll be seeing Gonzalez at next season is Charlotte. Of course this could just be Coop talking out of his ass but you never know. Hence why bringing in a lefty reliever should be a priority right now. No way do I want to start Gio's arbitration clock this season (unless he dominates and deserves a callup later on).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) He IS our number 1 prospect imo. And this coming from someone who isn't exactly super high on the guy. Gio, Sweeney, Broadway, Fields in that order, imho. If Gio starts the year in AA B-Ham he'll dominate. Repeating the level and moving to a really good pitchers park are 2 factors for that. But it's conceiveable the Sox could start him at Charlotte if they want to move him quickly. I'd let him start at B-Ham and build up some momentum 1st though.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) He WOULD be the Sox #1 prospect right now, IMO. Would be very close b/w him Fields, and Sweeney right now, but those are the top 3. Ahh it's nice to have a "little" depth in our system again.

Some new Chicago Sports.com articles
QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) lol. silly you comparing a baseball team to the stock market. kenny sure made the right "trade" getting 2 mid level prospects for freddy garcia during a pitching starved offseason. what bullpen depth has been brought in? nothing but negativity from this organization. kenny sounds like a spoiled brat who wants to take his ball and go home. did you not learn from last year with your FUZZY math? get your head outta the sand. this ballclub won the world series with major league pitchers. whether you thought they were good or bad. they were big league ready. not guys brought up from the minors. such a knee jerk reaction from a flash in the pan GM and his penny pinching owner. but we all must realize this was the only outcome that could have occured. it's the history of this franchise. Gio Gonzalez a mid level prospect. Ha. He'd almost be the Sox's #1 prospect right now. What bullpen depth also? Well let's see, trades were made to bring in the likes of MacDougal and Aardsma. Jenks was claimed from the Angels, we picked up Riske for basically nothing and it didn't work out, we traded for Matt Thornton, so KW has been active there I would have thought. And look at the 2 teams that made the World Series this year, and who they had in their rotations and bullpen. Detroit - Justin Verlander, Joel Zumaya St. Louis - Anthony Reyes, Adam Wainwright. So yeah, you can win a world series with guys brought up from the minors, so there goes that argument.
