  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) Hah yep, in June, but the temps have been great lately. And these hail storms aren't too bad. They're short-lived, but they're cool to see. Except when they come in the size of golf balls. Then you've got trouble.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) LOL, there's another hail storm going on right now. This is like the 3rd time in just over a week. That's more hail than I've seen in my life. Isn't it meant to be Summer up there soon? I should be the one b****ing about the crappy weather. Although the parents were saying Utah got some pretty bad storms the other day as well.

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 05:52 AM) Perkins is the Twins 3rd option if starting pitchers go down IIRC Aaron Gleeman was saying last season he's one of those guys that dominated high A ball, bur struggled initally when he made the jump to AA ball. How's he been doing this season Jim?
  4. I saw Bonds the other day on a Fox Day Game against the Astros. He almost hit 2 homers on 2 fastballs Bucholz threw right down the plate, so he's still got the power, but the announcers kept mentioning how bad his plate discipline has been and how he's been swinging at a lot of balls outside the plate. And unless that changes, he's not going to improve his power numbers in a hurry. And maybe Loaiza should start throwing above 85MPH instead of wondering about Voodoo Curses. You think Billy Beane is re-considering that 3Y/21M deal right about now?
  5. Look I loved Aaron as much as the next person, but he's still got some serious flaws to his offensive game that need improving such as his plate discipline. For the money he's making, he's pretty much an excellent CF for a lot of teams though. And the Phillies is no exception.
  6. And time for me to start a Game Thread Streak. And really it's a favorable matchup for us today. Towers hasn't had a good start to the season at all with a 6.75 ERA in 2 starts. He doesn't strike out a lot of hitters, and he's been terrible against lefties (which means Thome's probably an excellent bet for the PTC today). In 6 appearances against us in his career, he has a 4.27 ERA. Meanwhile, we need Freddy to keep improving. He was thereabouts in his start against the Tiggies, but he can be better. He needs to throw the fastball more and not the off-speed stuff he did in his 1st outing against the Tribe. But I like our chances in this one.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) One year wonders. They exist throughout baseball. For example, look at Adrian Beltre, or hell, Brady Anderson in 1996. I call Beltre a perfect example of what a player can do in a "contract year". Too bad Bill Bavasi was dumb enough to take the bait.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Usually I agree with that. But top-flight prospects for half-a-season? Giving up the future for VERY short-term results? In Oakland's case with Zito, I just wouldn't want to give up the future for three months of work. Four if you happen to be in the playoffs, but still. In Oakland's case, if he can get some really good prospects for Zito, I would do it. And I'm ranging in a number of factors here, such as the depth of starting pitching that they have, and the budget that they've got to work with. And Beane's shown he's not gun shy to pull the trigger in that type of situation with Mulder and Hudson. But you saw the impact the Carlos Beltran acquisition had for Houston when they got him in 2004. And the players they gave up, Octavio Dotel did nothing for Oakland, and Mark Teahan and John Buck are struggling in Kansas City.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Considering how he hit the 2nd part of last season, I am quite surprised it took him this long to find a spot. He hit with some power late in the year for the Tigers. Had to at least make a few organizations think he had finally figured things out (lets not forget he was pretty damn talented back when he was in the Athletic's system). I guess it's like when Hee Seop Choi got placed on waivers and the Red Sox claimed him. He's also got Scott Bora$$ as his agent, so some teams may have shied away from that, even though it doesn't look that bad of a contract. But the guy had a 1.006 OPS after the ASB. The Yankees could start him at 1B, and put Giambi at DH and they'd be better defensively (which is a big key for them). He's certainly better than the likes of Andy Phillips and Bernie Williams.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) I'm pretty sure they called up Paulo cuz we haven't gotten a hit from our CFers in a week. They could move Sean Smith to LF (since he's hitting over .300, doing a fairly good job so far) for Dane Cook to let Orlando hit in CF. But I would like to see what Orlando could do in high A ball. I think it's fair to say he's too good for low A ball already.
  11. QUOTE(marsh @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) Seems that they start slow every year and somehow still manage to win 90+ games. Oh yeah I've got no doubt about that. Should be interesting at the deadline, if they're behind say the Angels, if they trade Zito for a real good deal of prospects, cos he ain't coming back there.
  12. Charlotte beat Pawtucket 7-4. Stephen Randolph started, 6IP, 3ER, 2BB's, 6K's. Josh Fields went 3 for 4, with a HR, 2B and a BB. Pedro Lopez also homered. Sweeney 0 for 5, still struggling. Charlotte Box B-Ham lost to Huntsville 6-2. Ryan Rodriguez started, only gave up 2ER in 6IP, but still picked up the loss. Not much offense for the Barons, Nanita had 3BB's, Valido 1 for 4 with a double. B-Ham Box Winston - Salem lost to Kinston 5-0. Adam Russell started, gave up 4ER in 5.2IP. No offense for the Warthogs, Gomes 0 for 3, Lucy 1 for 3, Kelly 0 for 4. Winston - Salem Box Kanny lost to Rome 10-6. Rote started, 5.2IP, 1ER, 5R given up. No Orlando today. Aaron Cunningham 2 for 3, with 2 BB's and a 3B. Welker had 3 hits, Castillo had 4BB's. Kanny Box
  13. Man it's so depressing we can't catch teams like Indiana, Milwaulkee or Washington right now. We're playing so much better basketball than them at the moment.
  14. We beat Philly in a close one tonight. Check out Dwight Howard's stat line; 28 points, 26 boards. And the three headed monster of Dwight, Hedo and Jameer continues to shine. All scored over 20 tonight.
  15. I just saw the pictures of Gooch's play on SouthSideSox. Wow. Uhhhh, lucky he made the play too.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 15, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) I use to also, especially in the Spring. The difference is now when it is 100+ I can still walk 18 holes carrying my clubs. Drink more water, look for shade now and then, but the heat really isn't a problem for me. And enjoy quite a few beers after it. When me and my Dad played 18 holes on the Hilton at Sedona last July (weather was about in the high 80's, perfect golf weather), the 1st thing he wanted (and desperately needed) was a Beer. Unfortunately, the clubhouse / restaraunt area was hosting a wedding reception that night.
  17. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 15, 2006 -> 05:29 AM) What is with all of these teachers trying to bang their students? I never remember anything of the sort when I was in school. We've had quite a few cases of that happening down here the last couple of years. And really it's quite sad. IIRC, a victim who was a 16 year old boy, was thankful for it, because he still loved his teacher.
  18. You think Pittsburgh would love to have him at first instead of Sean Casey right now? Shelton could wind up hitting 30 HR's very easily. However, since he still has to hit at Comerica, I think he'll tail off sooner rather than later.
  19. QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) Cat fight with Raquel Welch. C-C-C-C-Cat fight. Gotta swing those arms now.
  20. All part of the Don Cooper "coaching" experience. I think with Vazquez, most people know it's gonna end up being a good acquisition for us, but it may take a little time. Contreras took a season and a half before he started to dominate etc. And Javier's gonna have a few bad games at the Cell with his flyballing ways. But he's a much better bet than what we had last season with El Duque in the #5 spot.
  21. He actually looks like Freddy a little.

    Odd Stat

Uribe's got a minor thigh injury at the moment. Ozzie wants to make sure he's 100% before he's back out there. And with the way Cintron has been hitting, the team hasn't missed a beat.
  23. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 15, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Yeah, very questionable charge called at the end but Ben Gordan was on fire from beyond the arc. He hit 9 from 9 from downtown didn't he. Wowee. The Bulls certainly have some gunners from 3 point land. And they need them too with the lack of a low post game that they've got.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 15, 2006 -> 05:57 AM) Lohse prob will be traded. He had a really good spring training and they thought he turned things around.... well they thought wrong I think they've been trying that for a year or two now. They've got Boof Bonser down at AAA and the likes of Glen Perkins (think that's his name) down at AA. Some excellent SP prospects.
  25. He's been on a tear early on in Kanny. We may see him join his countryman Gomes in Winston - Salem sooner rather than later.
