Looking at that list from Orlando's point of view (Battie, Cato are expiring contracts, and we'll hav plenty of $$$$ to spend), I'd hope we go after Nene at least to fill our need at the C position. But the Bulls should at least get Mohammed and Peja if things play out the way they should.

Given up on Bobby Abreu already have we?

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Plus he's a lot younger than Brand putting up the numbers that he is. Uhh knight; Brand - 23.5/10.3/2.8 Chandler - 5.9/9.9/0.8

I'd prefer Tracy because he's cheaper, but his defense isn't as good at third. But like 101 said, it's an interesting idea. We need to cover our bases if Paulie is going to leave, and this is a start.

Dwight Howard's line tonight; 15 points, 16 boards, 4 blocks. Oh and another Magic win, this time over the Heat. Zo had 21 boards tonight in opposition. Needless to say, he's picked up the slack for Shaq pretty well.

Dwight's already a monster, but just wait until he actually develops a low post game. At least we're actually utizilizing him more this season, and in the past few games, it's starting to pay off.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Looking at Haigwood a little closer, his high walk total for a soft tosser didn't exactly fit for the sox. If he had Buehrle like control [who Haigwood was compared to], then it would be a different story. But a soft tosser who gets himself in trouble with walks is begging for trouble Gio's numbers were excellent. But I'm glad the sox have Liotta Beck what are your thoughts on Gio compared to Liotta? Ray had a good year no doubt, and an excellent ERA at his 2 stops (2.26 Kanny, 1.45 WS), but his lack of K's are a little bit worrying to me (only 37 in 8 starts for the Warthogs). Of course I know you don't have to strike out pitchers to be successful, but the key for Ray will be can he keep that ERA low in the higher levels if he's not going to strike out a lot of hitters.

The Florida Papers this morning are reporting that the Marlins may be moving Ron Villione to the Yankess. Now I know he was terrible after he was traded there, but he was very good for Seattle for a season and a half, and could maybe be an option, if KW was still thinking about trading Marte and getting in a replacement.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) As talented as Gio is, he's only pitched in High A ball and he's a bit injury prone. There is a good shot Gio won't even make it to the majors. But you also gotta remember, the jump from high A to AA in this organization, is not the hardest one, especially if you're a pitcher. Plus still at his age, you don't expect him to pitch in AA and AAA at this stage. What I'm saying is, if Gio was still here, I'd expect him to put up some good numbers in B-Ham in 2006, with the same K/9 ratios etc. Guys like Haigwood, have posted better numbers making that jump. Gio's path to the majors, maybe a little bit longer than other pitching prospects, but I still thik he's going to be a good one, He's got 3 good pitches (1 excellent one in the curve, and a good fast/change combo). In fact, he could be a lot like Randy Wolf who Philly have under control at the moment, if things play out properly.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) Jeremy Reed was a better prospect than Gio and that deal worked out just fine for the Sox. A lot of people over-value Gio. He doesn't have near the trade value a lot of people seem to assume. He's a prep lefty who has not pitched past High A ball who has durability issues (potentially). You gotta remember with Reed, he had wrist problems all 2005, therefore the problems with the bat, but his defense at Safeco was better than advertised. And Jason, I know you don't like Gio , but you gotta admit, those K numbers he put up this season were very impressive for a 19 year old (during the season, he's 20 now). You gotta remember B-Mac didn't start really dominating until he was 21, and that was in 2004 when he went from low A, to high A and AA.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) I disagree, as long as we re-sign Konerko. Podsednik: 0 HR Iguchi: 15 HR Thome: 40 HR Konerko: 40 HR Mueller: 10 HR Dye: 31 HR Pierzynski: 18 HR Anderson: 15 HR Uribe: 16 HR That would be 185 homeruns with much improved OBP in the lineup. Why would Bill Mueller bat 5th in that lineup?

QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) his defense is rowand like but its ok I mean how much better defensively is Brian Anderson? Carl Everett's Defense is Aaron Rowand like?
-
QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) He needs another year in the minors. He hit like .180 during his time with us so I wouldn't call him up yet. Haha, you're willing to make a definitive judgement on Anderson after an extremely small sample size? Ok then.........

Well Toronto's got money to burn with the new ownership, and they could get A.J Burnett as well. At least he's not ending up in Cleveland. Oh, and this'll mean that Miguel Batista becomes available as well. And he'd be someone I'd go after for the pen, especially if Hermy couldn't pitch in 2006. Always good to have at least some closer experience other than Jenks.

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Haha, I love this quote: He's positive about the Indians re-signing Millwood but then says that the White Sox will likely be without Konerko. Yeah, that's not too biased. :rolly Especially when Mr Bora$$ wants 5/50M for his client. -
Gathright's an interesting option, but I think he's going to be very similar to Jerry Owens anyway, and Anderson really deserves the 1st shot anyway. Although, if we were trading for a D-Rays OF, I'd like it to be Jonny Gomes, but we were too late on that, after he was stuck in AAA.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) Kessler coming out next year... :drool In my NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2005 game, I was Atlanta and I got 2 1st picks in a row for 05 and 06, so I drafted Crosby and Phil Kessler. So I had 2 lines of this; Kovalchuk - Crosby - Heatley Palffy (who I signed) - Savard - Kessler Tell me that ain't good.
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Ovechkin went first in 2004, and Chicago picked 7th in 2005. Yeah it went Ovechkin - Malkin - Barker in 2004, and Crosby - Ryan and Johnson I think in 2005. Wait for Malkin though, him and Crosby are going to be the next big duo in the NHL, although they're both centers so they may not be on the same line.
-
Can't see him on Oakland, I actually think they'll bring Hatteberg back with Johnson, as crazy as that sounds, they really value Scott's leadership and intangibles over there though. So that leaves Baltimore, but after you've seen what happened to Sammy Sosa in 2005, do you want to take another chance on a veteran who's reaching the end of his career?

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Uribe did show a lot better patience the last month and in the playoffs after working w/ Walker on that little timing "kick". Yeah I actually suggested moving Uribe to the #2 hole late in the season when he was running hot, to help improve things a little offensively. I think, if he continue practicising with that leg kick, and continue on with the form he showed with the bat in the 2nd half of the season, he could still hit in the #2 hole, if that's the course of action the Sox decided to take with moving Gooch down the order. But remember, Uribe is a terrible basestealer, which is not going to be a plus for Ozzie.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Why don't you ask the Giants about Felix Diaz... A top prospect... projected to be a #2 starter... traded for Lofton... I imagine alot of Giants fans were upset at the time too.. Hmm... I wonder how that one worked out for them... I'm sorry but until he does something at a level higher then AAA I really don't much care what the "experts" have to say... I mean you do realize these are the same people who predicted us to be in 4th place last year... Felix Diaz? Remember the Sox handled him terribly, but he was never predicted to be a #2 starter. He was 5th behind Foppert, Bonser, Ainsworth and Williams in terms of the Giants starting pitcher prospects. And remember you don't have to be absolutely successful in AAA to make it in the majors, and it's very hard for pitchers to do so in Charlotte because it's such a hitter's paradise. As as for being able to do something higher than AAA, I've got 2 words for you if you go back in time before the 2005 season. Brandon McCarthy. 2004 - Low A - 8-5, 3.64 ERA (113/21 K/BB ratio) High A - 6-0, 2.08 ERA (60/3 K/BB ratio) AA - 3-1, 3.46 ERA (29/6 K/BB ratio) He turned out alright didn't he. And remember B-Mac put up those low and high A numbers when he was 21. Gio did that this season, when he was 19.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Who hits #2 then? I'm guessing right now, if a move was going to be made, from this current lineup, it could only be Juan Uribe who could hit there, since he's done it sucessfully before. And besides the bunts etc., if you look at Iguchi's K's and Uribe K's from 2005 and 2004 when they both hit in the #2 hole, there's not really much of a difference (114 for Iguchi and 96 for Uribe). Tad had a +.16 in OBP though.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) Uribe is developing into a potential STUD of a SS. He's already a good one and a great defensive one (could a GG be in his future...I say YES). IIRC, a year or so ago, I remember you said he had Miggy Tejada like potential. Now I don't know if we'll ever see this, because his swing changes so much and it ain't consistent, but if we can just get it to a stage where it just keeps getting a little better and better, and he can get that average up to the .280 mark and still be able hit those 20HR's, he's a very VALUABLE player with his defense.
