  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) We never need ben gordon... EVAR. Better then Dwight Howard remember.
  2. Damn Sweetney is having a good night. Got 4 blocks as well.
  3. Ha I just read this bout Kobe; Because those rebounds are all important ya know.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Looks the Tigers are trying to get better with their various moves. I can't believe they don't sign Big Frank to go with Maggs. The key word there is "trying". The definition of trying to Mike Illitch is to sign players to terribly overpaid deals. Case in point Todd Jones having ERA's of 5.52, 3.79 and 4.97 before the 2005 season. And Kenny Rogers actually had far better home splits then away splits in 2005. He'll be 42 by the time his deal finishes up. But with the market value of starting pitches (hey A.J Burnett will make less than Rogers in 2006 BTW), this was to be expected.

    What's for Dinner?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) I am doing the doritos and diet pepsi thing right now. I had an install scheduled for Saturday 11am Adelaide Australia time, which for is 6:30pm Friday night our time. God dam international company. Why cant everyone just be on our time. You should have chosen the Melbourne office and timezone instead. I'm going out for dinner tonight with a buddy, the whereabouts at this time are unknown. But I just had 2 minute noodles for lunch, cos u know, they're quick.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Relatives of mine are worried about the Czech Republic's grouping. I'm not familar with soccer--at all, but they've assured me the 2nd round, against Brazil, will likely be the death of any team advancing from Group E. Unfortunately for the US, my allegiance in mid June lies with the Czech's. The Czech's will be good no doubt about it, with Tomas Rosicky in the centre of midfield (probably top 5 in the world for his position) and man mountain Jan Koller up front with Milan Baros from Aston Villa. Didn't they make the finals of the European Finals in 2004 losing to Greece (or was it the semi's)?
  7. Dad - A nice retirement house up in Sedona (gotta be near a golf course like Balta), so that I have an excuse to go visit him. Mum - Some really cool artsy / craftsy stuff. She's likes all of that. Oh yeah, and I'd find a cure for diabetes, so my friend wouldn't have to prick himself everyday.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) what are the categories? We usually add in some new ones year by year, but there's things like best poster, best poster to start a thread, best poster to add to a thread, drinking buddy, funniest poster, thread of the year etc.
  9. Davanon had worn out his welcome in Anaheim. When Jason and I caught 2 games there against the Mariners, the fans were really giving it to him for his lack of power (probably because he was used a little bit too much by Scioscia). I made a post a few weeks ago about potential 4th OF candidates. Seeing what the O's gave to Orlando Palmeiro yesterday makes me a little weery about the market for them. A guy like Owens would be nice, but he deserves playing time down at AAA. There's also the likes of Terrence Long (.279 AVG, good defensive player), Dustan Mohr (didn't hit well in Colorado but still had 17HR's), Matt Lawton and Michael Tucker.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) That anyone in their right mind would be willing to give up their 6th of 7th best prospect, a guy no one in the area has even mentionned in the papers, in exchange for a quality major league relief pitcher. I'm just thinking that of Romero was a righty, the Angels wouldn't have made this deal. Remember they had to let go of the likes of Joel Peralta and Derrick Turnbow because they didn't have room for them. That said, what Terry Ryan was thinking when he made this deal, I don't know. If only Minny wasn't in our division, I would have loved to have get in on this deal to get Romero. Even though he had a 3.47 ERA which was very Marte like, he'll be a very effective LOOGY with that .198 BAA.
  11. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) i have been saying this for months now to the Marte Lovers. And yet today the Angels traded for J.C Romero. What does that tell you?
  12. QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Nice draw for DBAHO's boys - Brazil are head and shoulders above the rest, but Craotia and Japan are beatable - 2nd place isn't out of the question for Australia. Yeah if only we had you guys instead of Brazil, it would almost be perfect. No way we'll beat Brazil, so we'll hav to pick up at least 4 points from the other 2 games to have a chance of qualifying. With Guus in charge (Man Utd. want him now), anything is possible still.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I'd take him in a heartbeat. As would I, and the GM's of all other teams in the MLB. If you look at it from Baltimore's perspective, they're going to want some good starting pitching (Jon Garland), a good lefty reliever (Damaso Marte would have been handy), and a SS to replace Miggy (Juan Uribe). Boston will no doubt be the favorites for him if that's the path the O's try to take. I could see Washington making a play for him and offering Soriano (with Alfonso saying he wants to play 2B) so Roberts could move back to SS. But remember this about Miggy, he did have to put up with a lot of BS as YAS said. There were rumors of him not getting along with Sosa at all, and with everything that happened, even with Baltimore making a move today, you can probably see where he's coming from with this demand, even though he should probably just put up with where he is as he signed the contract. But don't forget either that Oakland hasn't made the playoffs either since Miggy left, and he really does have a great reputation around the league for making a team better, even though that hasn't been the case with the O's (but that's been because of the pitching).
  14. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) When was the last time they had an actually SP who was worth a damn? Leo Mazzone.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) Joey's silo (the thing holding his "guts") started bleeding and he had to have another surgery. When they went in they found that they hernia repair had busted and had to redo that. The second repair was a success, but he's back in the coma state, but stable. 1 step forward... 3 steps back. Although it proves that he's got a lot more fight in him that we all thought. On my way back to the hospital. The longest 3 days of my life... He sounds like a fighter, hopefully that puts him in good stead for the road ahead. Hopefully you keep coming back with good news Steff.
  16. I'll post in greater detail later, but short story short, I think we could have gotten more for Marte because good Lefty Relief Pitchers are at a premium, even though Mackowiak is a great fit for our utility needs, he is still an utility player. I would have liked to get at least a prospect back in the deal as well, but at least we've filled a need.
  17. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) But I thought that the great Rex Grossman was supposed to lead this team to victory when he got onto the field. Going by what people say about him on this board you would think he is God's gift to Quarterback Once again you are putting words in the mouth of those who do not think Kyle Orton should be the QB of the Chicago Bears. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) He also threw for over 200 yds against the Lions. He has had an 80 or better QB rating 4 times this season. A 103.3 game against the Lions in week 2. Grossman has had a rating of 90 or more twice. So that's 1 200YD game in 13 weeks. He also has a QB rating below 61 in 6 out of the 13 weeks, and in 4 of the last 5. So I'm sure opposing defenses are shaking in their boots. The Orton vs. Cleveland game, passing for 117 yards without a TD and getting an INT and sacked 4 times is good? Ok then. Using the Grossman will suck because of his past record is blaphesmy. Did Rex Grossman have a defense that was this good? No. Did Rex Grossman have a running game that was this good? No. Did Rex Grossman have an Offensive Line that was this good? No. And yet his QB rating is more than 10 points higher in his career, then one Kyle Orton. The argument is simple. Yes Orton is a rookie, and yes surely he will get better. But the Bears amazingly have a real chance to do something in the NFL this season. You don't get a defense that is this good for a long, long time. It'll be a shame when the Bears can't rely on them when they actually face an elite offense in the playoffs, and they forced to ride on the shoulders on Kyle Orton, who as we have seen lately, will not be able to get the job done.
  18. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) Hey guys how bout we shut up and see what Orton does on Sunday. Maybe he has a good game. The chances of that based on his recent form are slim at best. We are not comparing Rex Grossman to Tom Brady, you are the one who is saying we are saying that, when all we are saying is that Rex Grossman is an upgrade over Kyle Orton. Pure and simple.
  19. Certainly at the moment, it appears that Mueller is probably going to go somewhere where he's guaranteed a starting job, and he could end up with 10M over 2 seasons. So we have to start looking at other options. The last news I read on Tony Graffanino was that Minnesota was interested in signing him as their starting second baseman. Then they traded for Luis Castillo. The Mets seem more interested in Mark Grudzielanek at this stage. St. Louis would probably be the favorites if they decided on him as their 2B man (but they could end up with Mueller for that role). The Red Sox have to decide whether they want to offer him arbitration today. They're definitely going to offer it to Johnny Damon, but for Myers, Muller and Tony G. they're unsure. Even though he's no wizard with the glove, he's a JR favorite, and had splits of .309/.366/.425. Yeah, he doesn't offer the lefty hitter we need, but should that be the end all to be all? No it shouldn't. In this current market, he probably deserves to be a starter. But if the chance comes up that he has to settle for being an utility infielder again, we should jump on it.
  20. He's got a good middle name. Steff in this hard time, I hope things turn out for the best. It can't be easy for you and your family at all for the moment, but everyone here hopes that the surgery the baby gets is successful, and hopefully he can live a good, normal life. And thanks for sharing that pic as well.
  21. For Toronto to attract FA's, they have to overpay. And with the increase in payroll they're getting, they're going to go out and get some top tier free agents. Yeah, Burnett's a risk, but would you prefer him for an extra $3M or Paul Byrd? Looking at their lineup, you think they wish they had Carlos Delgado back right now? They really do need an increase in power. We had about 6 guys hit over 20 HR's this season, Toronto had 1, Vernon Wells. And to put that into perspective even more, Frank Catalanotto was the only regular who posted a +.800 OPS. Put simply, all this new pitching is great, but if their offense stays the way it was in 05, no way are they going to be a playoff team, especially in the AL East.
  22. And it's posted in 2 other threads.
