Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?
DBAHO replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Spring Training is fool's gold, you get your hopes up based on spring performance and you're bound to be disappointed. Especially when you go from the hot Arizona weather to the cold Chicago weather to start the season (and we've seen the effect that's had on Alexei for example). -
The guy gets released from the worst team in baseball that's crying out for offense. He'll get a MLC offer or 2 from some teams, but I'd surprised if anyone offers him a major league contract. Just too much trouble, and you know how KW and Ozzie feel about the whole clubhouse culture thing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I was thinking more like Zach Randolph. Loads of potential, loads of s*** for brains. Give Randolph some credit, he's actually turned his career around in Memphis. Unforutately it only took him about 10 years to actually "get it".
-
I'd be scared as hell drafting Cousins. No way is that guy mentally ready for the NBA (think Tyrus Thomas or Michael Beasley all over again).
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) That was intense. And only Part 1 of 10. They flimed quite a lot of that down here in Melbourne actually. Meant to be the biggest production cost wise for any TV series IIRC.

I read somewhere a while back that she's dating Jeff Goldblum in real life.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I would believe you, but this is twice now that this has happen. Howard is just a brick so I wouldn't expect for him to give any easy buckets, but it's another that you just don't attempt to block the shot (he put his hands straight up in the air and stood there) and get Rose with the body.. again. I don't care about that foul from Howard (Rose needs to to probably learn how to go with both feet in the air), but he's a big whiner when he doesn't get calls in the paint for every ticky tack foul I noticed. You think Shaq was anything like that when players played real defense in the 90s and Shaq was constantly abused? Don't even get me started on people flopping against him almost every game back then. (still now) He is the real superman not Howard. Well I don't know what more you can expect him to do. He's not a guy who's going to take a charge, so he's going to stand there and contest the shot. It certainly wasn't anything close to a flagrant or anything. The NBA is a perimeter star's league. Guys like LeBron, Wade, Kobe etc. are the ones who'll get the calls when they go to the basket for ticky tack fouls, not the likes of Howard. It's not like you could play real defense against Shaq in the 90's anyways, because the guy was just so damn big he'd back you down so easily, so the best they could do was flop. That certainly doesn't happen today for Howard (unless you're Pau Gasol).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:02 AM) I used to LOVE skitchin'... my buddy and I played that all the time. It was, clearly, a blatant ripoff of Road Rash, but it was still cool. I thought Skitchin had a bit more strategy than Road Rash actually. In Road Rash all you gotta do is basically stay on your bike, while Skitchin was harder as it had more obstacles, faster cars to skitch off etc. Nothing like hitting someone with nunchuks or a stun gun also. I'd just love to see how it would look today with the improvement in graphics from 15 years ago.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) whether he got knocked to the floor by howard or he didn't land properly because of his motion, I have never seen as offensive player got call for an offensive foul after flying to the floor and spraining his wrist, while the other guys is standing tall. definitely not an offensive foul. They are never going to call that an offensive foul (even though Reggie Miller or Fratello picked up what I am saying about Rose extending his left arm into Howard's chest), but I am just saying that Howard is not 100% to blame for Rose's injury. Just bad luck more than anything.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) No, then you're an NFL player. Or Tiger Woods (too obvious).

I think tomorrow will be 1 year to the day I was last in Chicago (participating in the Soxtalk International Drinking Challenge). Wish I was back there...

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Posterior tibial tears "Surgical options may include cleaning away and removing any inflamed tissue around the tendon, realigning the foot bones, fusing some of the bones together or transferring fibers from another healthy tendon to repair the damaged posterior tibial tendon. The orthopaedic surgeon may use just one of these options or a combination of them. After surgery, a patient is required to wear a cast for at least six to eight weeks. An intensive physical therapy rehabilitation program is also required to strengthen the supporting muscles, increase flexibility and heal the tendon." That's the worst case scenario IMO. You're basically inserting screws into the ankle joint, and that's something which down the line has the potential to cause issues.

Just when I was telling people not to put too much pressure on Jared, this happens. Very unfortunate, but there's nothing you can do about it. Injury wise, it's not in a very good area obviously for a speedy guy like Mitchell who relies on his legs. Surgery wise, I wonder if they'll end up having to put a plate in his ankle, because there have been cases with different people in different sports, where that has become an issue "in terms of pain and hot spots etc." in the following years.

What are the chances of the Sox eating Linebrink's contract?
DBAHO replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You hang onto him, hope he can become a reliever who can give you an ERA under 4 for the 1st half of 2010, and then move him at the deadline for a prospect. But there's no way the Sox eat his contract. Some may call it stubborn, but KW, Ozzie and Coop probably think that Linebrink can rebound, and be the pitcher he was in the 1st half of 2009. -
Here's one game I'd love Rockstar or a similar company to remake;
-
Interesting; I wonder if they'd give him the 5 year contract he's after though. Apparently Atlanta is only willing to offer a 3 year deal with a team option for a 4th based on incentives.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 07:53 AM) Yes, and frankly that wasn't the cleanest of fouls. He didn't come near the ball. Not that it was intentional, but it should have been a flagrant. Rose stuck his left arm out to actually push away Howard though, so it actually could have been called an offensive foul, and that's probably why he wasn't able to land properly on hs wrist.

Kelly Dwyer from Ball Don't Lie sums it up pretty well;

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) I'm surprised you guys didn't. Funny thing is.. when Rose is out, the Magic have no problem taking care of business. When Rose played the whole game, the Bulls won at the United Center a couple months ago. Just goes to show how important he is even without Noah, but I believe Deng played too in that game so that helps alot. We're a better team than what we were a couple of months ago though. Carter and Nelson have finally found a groove in the backcourt, and it's showing in our results (won 7 in a row). But if the Bulls can't win 1 of their next 4 games (3 tough road games and a home game against the Cavs IIRC), they're done in terms of the playoffs IMO.
-
We should have won that game by 50.

I thought the musical score in the last episode was definitely the best it's been all season. My prediction is the next episode will be a Jin flash - sideways, as both camps try to find him. Usually they tell you on Lostpedia what the next episode will be called, but they haven't so far.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 04:14 AM) Jennifer's Body could not have been far behind... The only good thing about that movie was Megan Fox kissing Amanda Seyfried. Looking forward to checking out Green Zone. I'm a big fan of the Bourne Trilogy, and you've got Damon and Paul Greengrass directing. No doubt there'll be plenty of Hurt Locker vs. Green Zone comparisons I'm guessing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) It is amazing how much different this team is with Noah out. Not to mention the new guys don't do a damned thing on defense. That's probably why Scott Skiles and Larry Brown gave up on em.
-
I suppose it's also pretty lucky that in the 1 year where we actually get a top 10 pick, the draft class of that year is one of the best of the decade without a doubt.

Also Andrew Bogut posterizing Big Baby today, that made me proud as an Aussie. Not many players more deserving of that in the NBA than Davis.
