**2016 Films Thread**
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 07:07 AM) Do people not realize that this Alien movie is a sequel to Prometheus? A couple of comments in this thread make me feel like that might be the case. Alien has already gone back to horror. Prometheus, while flawed, had some of the most uncomfortable and insane scenes in any move the past decade. I loved it. Prometheus is not truly a prequel to the Alien series, but it is not truly part of the Alien series, much like the Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings but not a Lord of the Rings movie.

Remaining Free Agents
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Would like to know how CBA may have been different if players saw this offseason where so few teams are willing to sign veterans for depth/holes. There needs to be some kind of cap floor so teams that are "rebuilding" still are incentivized to pay free agents even if it's for reasonably short term.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) If he didn't have to throw in the cheap shot about how terrible analytics are, I'd be happy to agree. Edit: Ugh, I take it back. On a game to game basis, the NBA is as good of a production as it has ever been. Everything he said is wrong.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) The Rondo signing was inexcusable. Any scout watching that guy intently could see the same problems as now. They didn't care, Gar is smarter than everyone. But beyond that, it's now a thing that our drafts post the scout that left us for the magic have been brutal. But watching the 76ers/twelves/etc, rebuilding is too hit or miss in NBA. Just keep going and see what happens. Rondo doesn't play defense like he used to. That's inexcusable. He passes. That's it.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) Using that argument, Sale and Eaton were traded for absolutely garbage then, especially with Moncada and his .211 BA. There are many cases where a certain player takes longer to breakout and begin playing more consistently. Players don't just stop progressing once they hit a certain age. Jose Bautista is a perfect example (he didn't hit over 16 HR's until he was 29 yrs. old). Not that I think Lawrie is a superstar-in-the-making, but he's not a terrible player like a few people on here suggest. He's average right now and has flaws, but the potential for him to become better than he has been still exists (just as it does for him to become worse). That's really not my logic at all. Moncada isn't a good comparison. Moncada is 21.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) He's not a superstar, but he was on pace for around 20 HR's last year. He'll also be just 27, entering his prime, and is making less than he made last year. There are teams that add that type of player every year at the deadline for the playoff push. His prime isn't much. Do GMs still care about "on pace for" homer numbers?

I'm so ready for Alien to go back to horror. I liked Aliens, but I feel that its success changed the direction of the franchise for the worse.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) I don't know how you quantify this...but yeah I think 2016 seems like a huge outlier compared to previous years. There have been worse years, I'm sure but now the internet generation is seeing their heroes die under non-stop media exposure.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) Paxson comes out and says they need to be more athletic. Yet, signed Wade and Rondo lol Nothing these guys say means anything anymore. Their actions and their words are just out of sync. Almost like a certain President-elect. What do you think Reinsdorf is thinking right now if they have to fire another coach? How can they continue to run the business this way?

2017 Hall of Fame
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Yep. Sometimes voters strategically don't vote for one of the "guarantees" so they can try and get up the vote for other players who they also think are a fit (or even just get enough votes for players to stay on). Bit more strategy to it in some cases (although clearly some of the voters were just straight up delusional). While this is kind of understandable, it all just starts to reek of corruption when people vote for HOF players as a favor. I know it's not corrupted, but there is a slippery slope, especially if a guy like Raines is a small number of votes short.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) Yeahhhh. Hoiberg's seat officially hot. The idea of Forman hiring ANOTHER coach is nauseating. If Hoiberg goes, Gar goes down with the ship.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) Hub Arkush reportedly made a comment that Jimmy G (of Patriots) would be the #1 overall pick in the draft (if he was eligible). Kind of a moot point all things considered and it doesn't mean his value is that (since whomever acquires him will also have to pay him a lot of money). We all know I'm very high on Jimmy G and would gladly give up our 2nd pick and a future 3rd round pick. I'd also be willing to dangle Jeffrey & picks as part of a package as well. The Bears lack so much talent at so many positions, to trade high picks for any one player is a mistake. The idea of having a draft like Dallas did last year is incredibly tantalizing. The only pick for Dallas that hasn't really panned out yet was never going to play this year. Give me draft picks any day of the week.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Pressure is knowing that everytime you go to the mound if you give up 2-3 runs your teams loses. That's pressure. Uh no. It's not. But I'm on your side, so I'll leave it.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (BRIRO2017 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) He's had zero pressure. It's like the pressure of a back up QB vs a starter. The back up QB doesn't play. The #2 starter is 1/5 to 1/4 of your starts, same as your starters. This doesn't fly. QUOTE (BRIRO2017 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) He's not an ace. You don't watch baseball.

MLB to ban certain hazing per new CBA
