  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Good deal, but I was referring to Tizzle since he said he was officially actively rooting against the Sox every game the rest of the way. And besides the Cubs I'd think Santana would be one guy we'd all want the Sox to beat the most of anybody. What bout you Tizzle? Root for Cubs if they played tomorrow? Or Sox? ..... HEY CHICAGO, WHAT DO YOU SAY? CUBS ARE GONNA' WIN TODAY! GO CUBS GO! GO CUBS GOOOOOOOOO!
  2. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) It finally happened, a game thread that didn't reach page 2 while the game was in progress. Good stuff. That's about to change: As of today, I've officially reached the point where I'm openly cheering for the White Sox to lose. Not that I'm against certain players performing well (whether to heighten value or just to show progress); but rather, just hoping the game ends with the opposing team scoring one more run. Preferably 1-0 in Garland/Vazquez starts, and X+1 in every other. What's great is with Santana pitching against us tomorrow, within the confines of the Metrodome, I'll probably be quite happy. YAYAYAYAYAYA What do you have to say about that, Greg? Try to control the tremors in your fingers when you type a response.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) But really, it was a pleasant experience. Flash is as I expected (intelligent, friendly, funny). Except for the fact that he is Jim Thome's face. R U SRIOUS? I look nothing like Jim Thome -- except for the fact we're both white. Why are you trying to mislead everyone into thinking my jaw can cut steel?
  4. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) * Increasing Contreas Trade value. * Increasing Garland trade value * Gavin floyd getting confidence * Positive results from Richar, Fields, Owens and young relief pitchers. * Psychological positives. * Not having to read headlines all off season like "From first to worst in two seasons", "From World Series to worst overall in two seasons." From Penthouse to outhouse". All seem WAY better than the SLIM advantage #1 overall pick brings. Since 1965 there are THREE #1 overalls with OPS above .900. Why is this complicated? There are 1500 amateur players taken...with #1 you have a choice of the top 1500. With #4 you have a choice of the top 1496. Virtually zero evidence you are more likely to hit gold with #1 over #2 or #3 or #4. There is some evidence of top 10...but within top ten? Couldn't the first several options happen whether or not the White Sox win? And I don't believe psychological positives matter much. At this point in the season, they're probably dead and looking forward to the offseason. Next season is completely different. If Williams undergoes major roster changes, they'll be new life injected into the club regardless of how 2007 concludes. Here's a concept you fail to understand -- considering our draft history, the Whtie Sox need EVERY benefit possible within the draft. You suggest there's no evidence you're likely to hit gold with a #1 pick, yet, when I browse through our recent draft history it doesn't seem we hit gold with anything. Why not cheer for the possibility of selecting high, and perhaps, receiving our Ken Griffey Junior, BJ Uption, Joe Mauer, Alex Rodriguez? There's going to be quite the lull between our first and second round pick. We don't exactly have the compensation round to fall back upon.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) With the way this season has been going, did you really expect anything different? When certain posters are upset that some draftee we wanted got picked right before the Sox pick, that will serve them right. No, those certain posters still wont budge from their stance winning meaningless September games (the previos season) was better than losing for the purpose of gaining draft position. We'll have to wait until those drafted ahead are producing in the majors for anyone to acknowledge their mistakes. And even then, I'm sure they'll just shrug their shoulders and say something such as "it is what it is." Here's one prevailing question the 'winning' crowd has yet to answer -- what's the most beneficial part of winning out the remainder of the season? Name me ONE legitimate benefit. I could give you one benefit to losing out the remainder of the year -- having the opportunity to draft a HOF calibur player at #1. Yes, that player may still be available wherever we select; but they'd also be there at #1. As I see it, there's much more substance to our argument than the constrasting view held by Greg and the Gang. Atleast we're facing Santana on Friday. Although would it shock anyone if the White Sox mounted their highest offensive output, post-changeup era, against him?
  6. Unbelievable. This team can't even lose right. Eh, I'm still penciling in a stud for whatever slot we fall to. No excuses.
  7. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat None of you have anything better to do, anyways.
  8. I love Dye taking his sweet time approaching the ball down the RF line. His defense is really going to be unbearable next season. I don't even want to think beyond that.
  9. I recall reading a case study several years ago concerning several men who killed a co-worker, then proceeded to kill his child (relatively young, although not an infant) because they were afraid one day the child would enact revenge. This assumption, as you may gather, was based upon vengeance movies where a similar scenario occurs to the main character. As ridiculous as it may sound, what other explanation could there possibly be? Could the child have been killed because he witnessed the shooting and those responsible were afraid the infant would remember? Either explanation, their motive is reprehensible and -- if captured -- won't convince even the worst inmates not to turn these people into currency.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) I've looked at the top 10 draft picks the past 5 years. Even in the top 10, its a crapshoot. There aren't that many players contributing much to winning yet. There are a few real good ones. I think its time to bust out the Lose for Pedro t-shirts. 12 games remaining. At worst, we're three losses out after tonight. It's possible, but I'm not counting on it. It would be tremendous for our future, so therefore, we can't count on it to happen.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) Oh by the way, that .313 SLG% would be dead last amongst ALL outfielders (both leagues) and 3rd worst in baseball with just Vizquel and Punto being more inept, that's right Jason Kendall has a higher slugging percentage. That's future White Sox shortstop Omar Vizquel to you.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Great I've become more resigned with our fate. We're bad, but not quite worst overall bad. Oh well -- I still expect a stud selected at whichever slot we happen to fall to.
  13. Fields had to hit that home run atleast 450 feet.
  14. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) ChiSox.com's game chat room is pretty cool. 1. Where is the chat room at? I've browsed the site and couldn't find a link. 2. Traitor.
  15. QUOTE(Dogfood22 @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) We had better start spending some money in the draft and we had better start doing it soon. League average ballplayers get huge amounts of money and slightly above average players get horrible contracts that can set organizations back. You can't get a halfway decent #3 starter for under $10mil per these days. I don't see what is so wrong with going over slot when the alternatives are what they are. There are no more bargains anywhere like JD was when he first came here. Now your "bargains" are s***ty ass f***in ballplayers. Aaron Rowand is a bargain? Aaron Rowand ain't no f***in bargain. Aaron Rowand sucks. It's almost better to sign an assload of write-offs and hope to find the next Carlos Pena or Jack Cust than it is to work the FA market because at least then you won't run into a contract that will set your organization back. And this all makes me hate those f***in Cubs even more. f*** Jim Hendry and everyone who looks like Jim Hendry. We're going to experience quite the dilemma next June in the amateur draft. Especially if the most talented players available have Boras as their agent, or don't and are still demanding bonuses above slot value. Now, I realize there's no guarantee we still hold the hard-line with Boras; but it's more of a situation where I'll have doubt until proven otherwise. I, among others on Soxtalk, believe the 2008 draft pick is a valuable component of our future. Perhaps one of the best opportunities we'll have to infuse talent into the organization. Williams just can't afford a first round failure. Expectations should be immense on our scouting department to deliver a stud. Whomever is selected needs to develop quickly and sustain success immediately upon promotion. What should make the issue of slot value all the more irreleveant is our lack of sandwich picks. Since Buehrle and Dye were resigned, there's no chance for compensation picks. We may have -- depending upon the length of the sandwich round -- fourty slots between our first and second overall selection. No excuse not to pay whatever is necessary to sign the most talented player.
  16. Even I have to admit that was awesome. Great way to earn your 500th homerun.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) It just makes no sense for the Sox to not go into rebuilding mode. They think getting a quick fix like Hunter or Rowand or Linebrink or Tejada will make us a contender again. The problem is it's likely we're going to have two very young guys in the rotation, and none of these guys are close to becoming better than average pitchers. Unless we can get like 7 or 8 pitchers on the roster to overachieve (like we had in 2005), this team is a long way from being a playoff contender. The pitching is only going to get better in the AL Central with the return of Liriano, the continued improvement of Carmona, etc. Only reason against rebuilding is the fear ticket sales will dramatically reduce. What I feel in regards to that issue is, who cares? The casual, or perhaps band-wagon jumping fan from 2005, will gradually decrease their interest in the White Sox regardless. If they're going to struggle, I'd rather struggle with a 85 million dollar payroll than a 110 million dollar payroll with several long-term deals strewn about. They'll have to rebuild eventually. I'd wish they accept their failures and get the process started sooner rather than later. One benefit to management suggesting that next season won't be a rebuilding project is if the season is in anyway comparable to this year, there will be no more excuses. Two straight seasons under .500 would almost force Williams hand.
  18. Shields has lost quite a bit off his fastball since I've last seen him pitch. Looks like all those innings are beginning to take their toll.
  19. Aw, that's a shame. A White Sox loser.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) Yeah. It all started when I graduated from high school. That place was hell. An hour and a half commute to and from? s***. It completely f***ed with my ability to go to parties and hang out with people from the school. And then there's the fact that most kids aren't all that smart in high school, so I was operating on a very different level than just about everyone at my school. And then you have the staff at my old school, which ran a terrible school newspaper and didn't allow me to write for it because the editor held a grudge against me. It was a terrible f***ing time. But as soon as I graduated I got a summer job working at the Board of Education (I still laugh about that), met some truly remarkable people, made a bunch of friends/connections, started College from there and dove right in to parties and dates and newspaper and all the things that were cut off by the fact that my HS was so far away. And now I'm taking classes I enjoy, have great working relationships with professors, am free to do whatever the hell I want on campus, am going to Washington later in the month, cooking for my friends and peers today, man, these are happy days. And it all started when I graduated high school and got a job at the board of education. Ha ha ha. You never replied back to my last personal message -- When are you and I going to meet in one of UIC's bathroom stalls for a series of toe taps and other bodily signals?
  21. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) When you consider that McLaren got fined $100 Million for spying in Formula One racing, and Wade Wilson (a coach) got suspended for using HGH to treat diabetes-related ED, Belichick got off easy. He won't be paying any of his fine, really, and they lose what will probably be a below 30th pick. BTW, if another Pats fan expresses the opinion that Mangini is the true villain here, I am gonna scream. You can extend 'Pats fan' to the entire ESPN network. I loved watching the introduction to Sportscenter last week, one day after the news broke, when they led with "Did Mangini break an unwritten code of football?" Who gives a f***?! Amazing that people are so willing to defend New England that they'd rather criticize a coach for "ratting' rather than another coach for using a system to steal an opponents plays. Oh, that's right, others team we're probabgly doing it too so that somehow that makes it easier to accept.
  22. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Well it depends which day you catch me. YOU SOUND LIKE A GHEY!1 I'll know this much concerning Soxtalk members: - Jason is the offspring of Aaron Rodgers and Jeremy Reed. - All Chat room members are devilishly handsome and well hung. As goes the characteristics of alpha males.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) There was more to the show than 1 plot line about a couple who stopped having sex, but regardless I don't think you have to have a relative situation to be attacted to a train wreck. If that was the case most shows on TV would have no following. I do agree on the horror stuff. Tales from the Crypt and the autopsy shows were huge favorites of mine in the past. I was just using one as an example. I know there are other issues, such as: the young couple dealing with a long term monogamous relationship, the couple unable to conceive, and the older couple. I'm scared enough about the prospect of being married one day, I don't need a television show haunting me.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) I don't think the demand is there... these horror flicks are all a dime a dozen and the market is over-saturated. I do think HBO is in need of something different, and something BIG! HBO is willing to give that idiot Lisa Kudrow a show of her own yet can't take a risk with a genre they haven't touched in over 5 years? If anything, the success of recent horror movies such as Halloween -- in addition to the abundance of DTV releases -- should prove there atleast exists a market. How's this for something big -- recruit Stephen King to collaborate on a mini-series adaption of his Dark Tower series. Name recognition and the popularity of the series should be enough to draw viewers. This is the exact problem I've noticed for quite awhile. Their collection of movies has become rather stale. Just browse the moves available on On Demand. Largest cable television network and they can only muster 30 movies? Most of which are recent and crap? Not good. Encore has a much more diverse collection of movies. Both on the network and available through On Demand. Encore Mystery is probably my favorite channel.
  25. I somehow sat through the pilot available on On Demand and could barely keep myself awake. I could see the appeal to those who have been (or are currently) in a marriage and relate to issues such as not having sex for long periods of time; but this subject matter, with the current assortment of characters, doesn't interest me. I don't fault, HBO, though. This show wasn't greenlit to appeal to me. What'd I really like to see HBO do is create a horror-related series. They've done it in the past with "Tales From The Crypt." If they're willing to take a chance, it'd atleast be interesting to watch something different.
