Los Angeles @ Chicago - ALCS Game 1
Flash Tizzle replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
We've been outmanaged, outplayed in every facet of the game. If our club somehow pulls it out, which I doubt, it will be a miracle. This game is disgraceful to watch as a fan. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) This is as horrible of a game as you can have against an opponent, and when you factor in that the Angels are tired and we're facing Paul Byrd on 3 days rest, it's just a total embarrassment. HEY, BYRD IS A CRAFTY RIGHTY WITH AN ERRAY OF DEVAS.....FILT....Well, mediocre set of pitches. To only have 5 hits, 2 runs off him is upsetting. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) I love how everyone starts giving up/insulting the Sox when they lose, but worships them when they win.. Those games are mutually exclusive from today. This evening, against Byrd, their plate approach is absolutely dreadful. It's obvious their plan is swing early and get to Byrd before worrying about their bullpen. Well, now since they decided to impliment this plan, they have nothing off Byrd AND the bullpen to worry about. -

This is becoming aggrivating. Paul Byrd is a meatball throwing junk pitcher who typically thrives the first time through the lineup--until opponents realize what they're up against and hit him. Their plate approach is terrible. Everyone in the ballpark knows our ballclub is swinging early to avoid the bullpen, and thus far, it hasn't done much to their advantage. So now, instead of working counts and awaiting good pitches in hitters counts, they've become too aggressive. How many popouts have there been tonight? Too many in my view. -
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) R.Justice of the Houston Chronicle and TK were both whining if the Yankees do not win tonight they should move Angels/White Sox to HSN network because no one will watch. TK cannot accept the fact Red Sox/Yankees will not happen.Justice claims Angels are best team in AL. I laugh at the fact White sox are so disrespected on to the World Series Who the hell is Richard Justice to judge whether or not someone will watch a Yankee-less series? The Houston Astros, of all possible World Series contenders, offer a national viewing audience NOTHING outside of Clemens. Most casual baseball fans couldn't name two people on that team. And while I realize our club similiarily doesn't feature well known athletes, our championship drought is more appealing than anything the Astros could offer. Just wait--if there's a possible White Sox/Astros World Series we'll hear the SAME whining again about the lack of an appealing storyline.

I've indulged myself to viewing a few episodes before. In case anyone is unfamiliar, the entire point of this show is to highlight the extravagant lengths rich kids go to celebrate their sixteenth birthday. It's often ridiculous the gifts given to those spoiled bastards. Thank God I don't have a young girl which may think of throwing a celebration 1/20th of the cost some of these parties total.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) A lot of my buddies are throwing a party at U of I and we are all dressing up as characters from Ninja Turtles. I am either going to be the Rat King or Leatherhead. 22 Year olds dressing up as Turtles characters is awesome U of I seems to be the destination most are selecting this Halloween. I'll be there as well. Here's my costume:

QUOTE(BabyJesus69 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) fwiw, the mlb channel on xm said that if the yankees series went 5, game 1 would be pushed back to wednesday If it's true ALCS game 1 is pushed back to Wednesday, couldn't MLB have prepared the White Sox and their fans YESTERDAY. Or even sometime today. The scenario of a game tomorrow wasn't exactly impossible to predict. And wouldn't this potential move effect every game the remainder of the postseason? What happens if the series extends to seven games and the following game is game 1 of the World Series? Will either team (hopefully the White Sox) expect the World Series to be pushed back one day?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) They better NOT change the ALCS schedule.... I'd like to hear the explanation behind delaying the ALCS. It's too f***ing bad if weather effected yesterday's game. Both teams could have used yesterday to rest, if the issue of fatigue comes up. There are 40,000 tickets sold to Tuesday's game in Chicago. People have set their lives around attending a designated baseball game But since I haven't heard any information on a possible schedule change, I have to believe it's unlikely.

Unless the posting of these signs have been approved by their respective cities, it's doubtful they'll be allowed to stay up much longer. It's state property these signs are occupying. Opponents of the messages these cardboards display could always suggest they risk distracting motorists. Even if they haven't thus far, you'll be inclined to read the messages driving down the highway. And it's different from the commercial billboards residing 50ft above most overpasses. We've become so accustomed to professional signs, I'd be willing to bet the more shoddy, poor assembled signs will be the ones drawing attention to themselves. I'm not disgreeing with the freedom of speech issue. Why not create a website with the same purpose? You can reach far more people. I can imagine one of these people falling over an overpass onto traffic attempting to attach their cardboard signs.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a hitter available in our system which could replace Konerko? Or rather, an adequate outfield prospect to which this organization could send Dye to 1B without worrying about a huge discrepency in lost production. Anderson doesn't give me confidence, and Sweeney/Young are still a few years from contributing. No matter what occurs this offseason, we're not going to equal the production of Dye/Konerko unless Konerko is resigned. Or Williams completes a trade. If Konerko leaves, and Dye moves to first, best scenario for Williams would be to upgrade one of our OF positions.

Need to hitch a ride back to Chicago for Game 1!!!
Flash Tizzle replied to BigHurtHallofFame201?'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
Isn't there any Amtrack or Greyhound bus routes that will bring you here? Probably should have thought about a route before you purchased the tickets. And above the problems of finding someone to drive you, which is difficult enough, you'll have to find someone willing to drive you home as well. That's a lot of hours spent with a complete stranger. -
QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Hawk was very disappointed in Marte, saying he is still getting under his breaking ball to lefties but he does not think Bmac will see any post season playing time b/c he ended the season on such a high note and the Sox will want him to stay that way over the whole winter. This is ridiculous, if true. What does it matter whether or not he ended this season on a high note? He's more valuable to this team's success than Marte. What good is Damaso when he doesn't have the confidence to retire LH"s? Or throw a god damn strike? He's practically useless right now, and I hope the organization makes the correct choice in leaving him out for McCarthy.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER
Flash Tizzle replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For anyone willing to watch a play which epitomizes our victory, tune into Baseball Tonight's clip of Konero hitting his HR. Behind home plate you notice a fan who is absolutely crushed immediately after it left his bat. Absolutely hilarious. -
I'm voting El-Duque. While AJP provided all the offense necessary in Game 1, Duque performed flawlessly in perhaps the most crucial situation this entire series. Bases loaded, 0 outs, leading by 1 run and battling through two consecutive full counts. One run scores and the momentum shifts towards Boston. Damon's strikeout completely altered the complexion of the game Red Sox hitters were deflated. He's my MVP. You could argue Iguchi faced a similar situation Wednesday, although I feel Duque's three innings of work were far more crucial in enemy territory.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) Some conclusions: One of the first concepts taught in research methods is correlation does not necessarily indication causation. There could be numerous variables in these studies, aside from the absence of religion, which led the researcher to conclude his findings. Just think of it logically--how does the degree of which a society believes in God relate to their homicide, STD, juvenile mortality? Honestly, the world would likely be better off without "religiosity." I live my life under the assumption there is no higher being, and if I'm wrong, surely he'll understand my position. I suppose people relate their spirituality to gambling--ignore the odds and focus on an illusive payoff.

Why don't voices from God ever tell their recepients to do something completely outrageous--like taking a s*** ontop a table? /obscure?

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Iguchi's hit was strange. I thought it was a snort at first but it hung up oddly I couldn't believe the force generated from Iguchi's swing. Talk about explosiveness; or rather remarkable batspeed, Iguchi appeared to just flick his bat through the ball. He must just have a knack for making contact on the sweet part of the barrel.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) Didn't see this posted yet and I usually hate the anti-national media bashing because soxtalk posters appear paranoid beyond recognition but I figured you'd guys would get fired up by this heading into Friday and t'd make you want the win even more. "White Sox fans won't ever be confused with the most knowledgeable fan bases in the game. In the first inning, they cheered wildly on three White Sox routine outs; one to short, a medium fly ball to center and a groundout to second. We can chalk it up, I guess, to overexuberance. Or, more likely, to lack of postseason practice ..." Either White Sox fans are not supportive of their team, are somehow perpetuating a white-trash; Cub-obsessed stereotype, or are completely oblivious to game situations. I suppose Atlanta Braves and Yankee fans have developed a good sense for judging flyballs. We'll sure have a first hand account Friday of how accurately Bostonians distinguish 390 ft outs from 410 ft HR's.

They have members at SOSH that trump Southsider2k5's post count. Some poster named Maalox has 26,621. Although it's understandable, if you browse through the forum, how he's managed this feat. One of posts featured in the game day thread was simply the words "No" following Iguchi's HR.

I recall someone, whether here or on WSI, asking about this. There are restrictions which prohibit anyone without consent--which White Sox likely don't possess, from including copyrighted material in video clips intended for distribution. This applies to the pre-game introduction featuring music from Pirates of the Caribbean. Far as the Go-Go Whtie Sox song, I have no clue where to find that. Thunderstruck you would be best served to download.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) at this analysis. Lefty of Love nailed it on the head. Baseball is not a sequence of random events. I commonly read Hardball Times and Baseball Prospectus for insight--and frequently a good laugh. I wonder how their win-probabilty scale would have predicted Boston's 0-3 comeback last year? Or Florida's improbable rally off Mark Prior in 2003 NLCS? Honestly, I have no problem with any sabermetric system used to evaluate baseball players/teams. This article in particular I give Hardball Times credit for their critique of "smallball." It's when statistics are used for predicting success that I cringe. Such as saying, "Well Buehlre's statistics have declined the last three years--it's OBVIOUSLY going to continue." Or, "His OBP in the minors was .405--it's OBVIOUSLY going to translate well, although not exactly, into the majors." I'd like to know what tangibles/intangibles are added to Win-Probability to assemble their percentages? Does it take into account the park-factor, pitcher on the mound, weather conditions, offensive capability of opposing team, errors, William Ligue? It's completely unneccesary to calculate win-probability. What purpose does it serve other than statisticians and Beane-lovin' mongers patting themselves on the back for developing a system with a 87.933243% probability of being correct. A 10 year old kid could have told you the second best pitching staff in the American league had a high likelihood of winning with a 5-0 lead in the first.
