Jesus, the amount of black ice around the south suburbs is the worst I've ever experienced. Here in Palos, literally, my whole entire subdivision is black ice. I stepped out of my buddies car fifteen minutes ago and immediately slipped on my back. And then when I thought about jumping in the snow to avoid the driveway I slipped on the sheet of ice covering that too. The morning commute is going to be horrendous if these conditions hold up.

LOLacaust at the bottom of the GRIT list for 2008. That's how you know this metric is valuable.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 02:17 AM) I came in this thread just to see if anyone had posted about this show. A few buddies and I watched some of the episodes tonight, and laughed our asses off. Jonah(the student) is hysterical. "f*** off miss, or you'll regret it". I love Jonah. The episode where he's mentoring the year seven students was hysterical. "Look at them.......they look gay ass." This show isn't afraid to cross any boundary, it seems. The most recent episode I watched was where the gay performing arts teacher was forced into allowing "special needs" kids to fill several roles, and his suggested to his sidekick they buy extra masks to hide their faces. Of course, you can't forget this:

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) As soon as they make a car that would actually interest me, I will. Assuming they don't go bankrupt and push us all in to depression that is. And I believe the launch date for the first car from these companies that will actually interest me is what, 2010? Which concept car is this, the Camaro?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) In the next few years? No one. Consumer spending is crashing, and the firms in this business are going to be killed. Sometimes I wonder what the hell ARE consumers spending their money on? Everyone just isn't keeping it under a mattress. There has to be some companies thriving, because I sure as hell see alot of cars on the road and they're all going somewhere.

Rangers may go to a 4 man rotation
Flash Tizzle replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
It's an interesting idea. If the Rangers pitchers are behind it then why not? Either they'll have a mediocre five man rotation......or a mediocre four man rotation. And think of the financial incentive for the pitcher who goes over 300IP with even halfway decent peripherals. If Texas has success (which for them is limiting the injuries of starters, not finishing with 100+ losses) it could really start a push towards going back to the four man rotation. You just need one guinea pig team to show progress before others take the plunge. Thereafter, if teams begin adopting the four-man, then every level below (minors, college, high school) will change their philosophies towards pitching; which is ultimately where the idea of a fourman rotation should begin, but you can't expect them to change unless the MLB does first. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) He has tried the oscar grab a few times. Ali, 6 degrees of seperation, Happyness, 7 lbs, thats nothing new to WS. Arnold, Sly, Van Damme all kill WS in the action movie categories. Arnold was just handed goldmine after goldmine script, his run in the 80's was amazing. I like to give Sly a little more credit because he actually wrote a good portion of the movies he starred in, which to me is pretty impressive. Van Damme was just fun to watch, although the splits trick got old Haha, yeah. Or Van Damme doing a roundhouse kick in slow motion while yelling AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh. Christian Bale is probably the one who can match Arnold. Especially if the new Terminator movie is any good.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) cloverfield viral marketing >>>>>> cloverfield Anyways, I just saw Conan the Barbarian for the first time. It was entertaining... It's amazing to me when I look at Arnold's movie catalog and compare him to his modern day equilavent, Will Smith. Arnold annihilates him. There probably won't be another person like Arnold, whom was involved with so many quality (IMO) action films. On the issue of financial draw of course Smith wins; but look through his IMDB page. Even with ID, MIB, Enemy of the State (movies I enjoyed him in) his career seems to be overstated. Whoever said it earlier in this thread was right, he hasn't done anything worth a damn in awhile. He's obviously trying to grab himself an oscar before it's all said and done.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Let the Right One In looks awesome. Has anyone been to a pre-screening I knew I remembered someone on Soxtalk talking about this movie. I haven't seen it but the reviews from screenings across America have been overwhelmingly positive. I know this isn't always an accurate guage of a movie's quality, but IMDB already has it listed as one of their Top 250 movies. Unfortunately for us casual moviegoers, unless you have a DVD player capable of reading Region 2 DVDs you'll have to wait unitl its US release on March 10th. Until then I'm probably going to drive to Borders and pick up a copy of the book sometime this week. Another excellent foreign horror film is [rec]. I don't know when it's being released in America, though.

Soxtalk has disappointed me yet again. Bad Santa at #12? Are all you GOOFY?!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) I have it on my video I-Pod. So anytime i'm bored i can switch it on. It's probably in my top ten of all movies, and i can't see myself getting sick of it. There's something about the movie that almost makes you wish you were there to experience it. Even with all the death and destruction.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) I very much disagree, but i'm not suprised. It's very much a love it or hate it kind of film I loved it as well. I enjoyed the first hand perspective of the attack, even through all the moments of queasiness. It's one of those movies I can envision myself watching over and over again when it's on TNT Saturday night someday.

I'd almost rather have 8-10 inches of snow than the 3-4 inches of ice that the South suburbs received. Like Southsidedon, I spent about 20 minutes chiseling ice off my car early this morning. I didn't even bother shoveling the driveway because that'd mean I'd have to break apart the ice to get into the ground, then labor from one end of the driveway to the other for a few hours. Snowblowers are useless too.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) it is tough to keep characters straight, and to actually figure out exactly who the characters are (it doesn't help that many of them look very similar with mustache's and whatnot), but I watched it from start to finish and by the end you get a bit of a better feel for it....it also doesn't help that his nephews are named saddam and hussein, leads to unnecessary confusion...i actually missed the first 25 min of it, and by the end you'll be able to figure most of it out Just finished all four parts. Great synopsis of Saddam's life from the moment he forced his way into office until his death. However, having done research afterwards it would seem the filmmakers left out quite a bit. HBO REALLY underplayed Qasay's brutality. It's true he wasn't as psychotic as Uday, but he wasn't the saint the series portrayed him as. Even Uday himself was portrayed less harshly than he could have been, this includes: forced rapings, torture of Olympic athletes who didn't perform well, and shooting an officer whom didn't salute him; among other atrocities. He also survived an assassination attempt on his life and from it walked with a limp. Still, you can't cover everything and the series did well covering the main events.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Those winter colds are coming back to fruition, seems like almost everyone on my floor is either coughing or sneezing. Still when I saw it was 26 in Chicago today, wasn't exactly complaining about the weather over here today. Explain several things to me, since I notice you're living in America and had not been notified. I have never heard this discussion if it happened, which I'm sure it did but I ignored since it was probably in a thread with a boring title; and everyone knows I only respond to threads with catchy slogans or puns. Two questions: 1. Why are you in the US? 2. Why of all places are you in Newport NJ? It just seems like an extremely random place for someone halfway across the world to travel to.

I have a good feeling about Bad Santa. I was in the womens big and tall section and heard, "OOOHHHH, that's right. You're not going to.............S-H-I-T right for a week."

Well, I know it wasn't me. I have certain fears tied with having sex in areas like a forest or the beach. With a beach, I KNOW I'll be sexing some girl and a crab will find its way over. Or in a forest they'll be ticks nearby, which I honestly fear and would probably faint if I had to ever remove one from my cockles. -
Let's be honest with ourselves -- this guy is awesome with women. Even before Stacy Peterson's disappearance made the news he had already been married three times. And from I've seen/heard, especially with Stacy, these women aren't exactly ugly or crazy. This new one probably is, though.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 01:38 AM) anyone watch House of Saddam on HBO? With something like that its always impossible to tell what is based on fact and what isn't but it was interesting and entertaining nonetheless. I watched part one earlier and enjoyed it. I never knew what he did to his best friend before watching and found it very disturbing, especially the reaction of everyone afterwards. What became difficult (and I can't imagine it'll improve in the following installments) was keeping up with the names, and on occassion, having to backtrack in the episode to hear the dialogue because their accents made it difficult to understand.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) That's very disappointing for Nevin. I remember most around here were very happy for us to pick him up in the draft. I guess that Gomez character from Hardball Times was correct in labeling him an injury waiting to happen following his selection. I was ecstatic when the Sox selected him. Even now I don't feel it was a mistake. Griffith represented a raw pitcher with a high ceiling, and at the time (a little less now) we were starving for prospects with potential. It's not as if we had a history of success in the first round, yet alone the second, to continue signing low impact/cheap players. I'd sign a Nevin Griffith clone in the second round every damn year rather than a Matt Long/Donald Lucy type, where they'll remain healthy but never be anything more than a minor league roster filler.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) What games do you want? Donkey Kong64 Banjo Kazooie Banjo Tooie Conkers Bad Fur Day Perfect Dark Excitebike 64 WWF No Mercy Paper Mario Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Diddy Kong Racing Castlevania Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness It would seem that the most difficult to find (for a reasonable price, atleast) are DK64, Conker and Paper Mario. If I can pick up atleast three from the local swap o rama I'll be happy. I just hope the bastards aren't charging $30+ for some of these games. I'm really pissed at myself because I remember a time several years ago I went to Gamestop and they had all these N64 games for $15 and under, and now, I'm lucky if I can find them anywhere.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) Swap O Rama owns. I'm probably going to swing by there before I go back to school. I was down at the flea market near Maxwell Street on Sunday with my dad (he goes there for cheap, stolen tools) and found Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem Zero Hour for $10 combined. It re energized my appreciation for n64. The links you guys listed are good. If I can't find any of the games I want (which are basically all platformers, aside from WWF No Mercy) I'll probably order online.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) The new fad soon to come(has already started actually, but not well) is the video game to movie. I think it's going to get better, maybe bigger than it has. In the same sense as past comic book movies, there had been a need to treat the films as a live-action video game; where you're supposed to be mindlessly entertained more than appreciate the actual storyline. I honestly believe, of all the movies based on video games I can recall at this moment, that Silent Hill is the best. I've always thought the atmosphere within the game is it's best quality, and that's what the film captured. It was honestly disturbing, as well. I'm happy to know they're making a sequel. Although, to be fair, the game itself is adventure based and has a lot more material to work off of than, say, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.

I really enjoyed the Dark Knight. I wouldn't label it the #4 movie of all time, as IMDB has it listed, but I thought it was superior to Batman Begins. I was honestly surprised at how violent the movie was. I suppose you can shoot anyone you want, destroy buildings, have disturbing images and situations (Pencil trick/ cell phone in body/choosing between two people rigged to explosives) but not blood or foul language! What was strange for me was watching obvious location shots of Chicago throughout the film and still trying to believe it's "Gotham City." In the beginning where Jokers men are pulling into the bank you can clearly see the fitness center/Union state attachment. The moment Two-Face shoots the driver and the car flips you can make out the surrounding landscape (in addition to the Sears Tower in the background) of the train lines leading into Union Station. Every wide shot of the city you can identify some noticeable Chicago landmark. Hell, Joker even mentions Cicero Avenue. This is probably the sole advantage I'd give to Batman Begins -- it paid more detail to distinguishing Gotham city from Chicago.
