  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) I had his injury and it's a nightmare. Way worse than an ACL. Apparently his tendon was basically cut in half by the box. That's even worse than mine and he might never play high level baseball again. Most times you rip the tendon off the patella and the surgeons will repair it by drilling holes in the patella and attaching it using kevlar. You can recover and play high level sports again (Jimmy Graham) but it's a long ass road back. I am not sure how they even repair a tendon that is cut in the middle. The patella tendon is the 2nd largest tendon in your body after the achilles and is just as important. That makes it all the more depressing. First game of his career.... So sad.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Man, this strategy assumes the league is full of dumb GMs. So we are going to send them some name prospects who we have already deduced will not make it. Then we flip him and try again for different prospects. I would think Jerry and the owners would rather save their $$$ and not give Machado any dough prior to being flipped considering we're penciling in the sox for about 64 wins this year. If you are going to be that bad (bullpen, defense) why the hell would you not just hoard some more money rather than give it to Manny in some weird flip scheme. You've gotten extreme with your trolling the past few days. They are clearly not opinions of real human beings. Take it easy and be real man
  3. Hopefully he can come back from it. It's just an unfortunate angle honestly.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) I still wonder how Abreu will hit when the sox are actually competitive and have pressure (with the lights on). Until then, let him mentor Moncada, Robert (in ST), etc and hope he continues to be steady.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Ron defended his case well in the face of multiple jaded Sox fans Finally some freaking recognition ^
  6. Gawd you Abreuniks slay me... The Jose lovefest never ends. I like him as much as anybody, but I just don't see the point in NOT trading him when his value is high and when they can resign him if they so desire. But, spending that 20 M a year for 3-4 years youd spend on Abreu would look much nicer in a front loaded Machado contract.
  7. Really? I'm the only one who voted for Abreu? The guy is on the wrong side of 30 and his value is as high as ever. Chances are he declines a bit and you can get him on a cheaper Edwin encarnacion type deal in the future. You trade him while his value is high, and if he earns it, you sign him when he is a FA. Hell, he will be getting a job from the white sox in the future.
  8. I guess if we can't have Beer-Burger-Fry, I can settle with Skol-Burger-Fry
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) At the 2017 trade deadline, Abreu was hitting .295/.351/.521/.871 with 19 home runs. But go on, keep embarrassing yourself. .871 with poor defense at 1st base. Good, but not great. Let's take a look at his 1st half stats from the two previous years. 2015: .296/.343/.492/.835 2016: .272/.326/.430/.756 Not too bad in 2015. But still, from a 1B with poor defense, not too impressive. Look at 2016. BAD. The dude stunk up the 1st half of the season. He is a notoriously slow starter. I think waiting until midseason has the potential to tank his value. You never know if father time catches up to him soon. Maximize his value and trade him THIS offseason. I'll be sad to see him go, but the sox have a chance to cash in on a slugger who may or may not be part of our contending teams. Remember, the sox can always resign him if he is still effective two years from now. Hell, he will probably get offered a job by the sox when he retires.
  10. Can't argue with what Hahn is doing here. Jose has value right now. Jose is historically a slow starter. You don't wait until the deadline when his value is low due to the predictable crap ass start to the season. Jose's value is higher now than it will ever be again IMO. Ship him out of here and see what type of return you can get.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) And we are supposed to trust your eye test over stats? Trust him, he was on TV for 15 years. He knows this stuff
  12. Sure will be miserable for Greg and that WBSASDAJS guy when Kopech, Eloy, and others come up and start performing. I expect them to keep their anti-rebuild positions when this happens.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) Teams probably wouldn't do that so they can keep the DH when he is taken out. Juat let him start at DH 3 games between starts. It would be kind of interesting if he came over and had success with the bat and was hitting like 6th on games he started in the NL games. Would just be odd seeing the starting pitcher hitting 6th. We could always put a wizard at SS or CF and have a DH bat for them. Youd just have to have pinch hitters ready for when Ohtani get pulled.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 02:34 AM) Perhaps it was this? I can't see anything before this about it. Greg spreading fake news again. Typical.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Great post. That's why I fully expect the Sox to trade Abreu/Avi. We're in a new era where the fans don't mind dumping everybody in the name of rebuild and it's a great way to provide the owners so much money for generations to come. If you are a GM and have the OK from everybody, why the heck wouldn't you trade everybody you can? The unknown player is so much sexier than the known. Cmon. the Sox are not paying Machado 400 million. It's not going to happen. He's already out East and desired by all the Eastern teams with cash. We're not getting Manny Machado for 400 to 500 million bucks for gosh sakes. Should be interesting to see the takes of the trade people and the people who don't want to spend cash on the Manny situation. Hmmm one player who will be 26 (Avi is one year older and considered too old for our WS contending window by some) commanding all that money? First of all Sox won't pay that. Second of all should be interesting to see who on here is in favor of paying Manny unprecedented dollars. Machado isn't getting 500mil. That is absurd. 400 mil is even a bit high. He didn't exactly light it up last season. I predict something like 10 year 35 mil. Would you rather have avi + abreu or Machado+ more touted prospects? I know what makes sense. The sox will have NO payroll. I don't see why it's hard to imagine the sox making a play for Machado. It makes almost too much sense. What's the different between signing 2-4 free agents vs signing machado? Obviously the length will be different, but they will have LOTS of payroll freed up. I don't know what you have against Jerry or if you are stereotyping, but he will spend if he sees it as a wide investment.
  16. This isn't rocket science. Jose is an aging slugger who had a hell of a year. Trade him while he is under contract for 2 more years. The dude has value. Either we keep him and he declines, or we keep him, he performs, and he commands a BIG contract. Both lose lose situations when we aren't competing Think of it this way. The money we don't spend signing abreu goes towards signing Manny Machado. Tarde Jose and Avi the hell out of here for some good prospects. Use the savings to land Mr Machado. Way lah
  17. You don't chance abreu having a down year and hurting his trade value. Trade him for prospects if the to t it deal comes. Rockies aren't trading rodgers for Abreu LOL. Some people overvalue him around here. Two prospects in the 50-100 range or a top 100 and 2-3 decent prospects if possible.
  18. I don't care what any damn fluff piece article says about Shohei not caring about money. 300k vs 3-8 mil is a HUGE difference, and it is the difference between being financially sound for your entire life. This kid could blow his arm out and then it is over. He won't be coming here for 300k. I'd love to live in fantasy land where it happens, but it aint happening. However, I think a HUGE indicator of there being a chance would be if the Sox hired Tadahito iguchi. Iguchi is looking to get into the managerial game, and he is beloved by the Sox. Once they sign him to a position, then we can start talking. Until then, I'm not holding my breath.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) This isn't like college basketball ... a guy taking a job at Tulsa only to skip away to a Power Five conference job after two seasons. The Sox supposedly are the next great thing. Why is Chicago a stepping stone job? It's a great city and Cleveland got Francona to go there for gosh sakes. It's not like the south side job is trash with this young talent coming up. A good manager might win 2, 3, 4 titles in chicago. You're taking the whole "I'm a complete dolt" act to a whole new level. sorry mods, but 4 titles?
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 02:35 AM) Gregg775, ron883, Iwin4Ron Book it, baby!!! My mentor, me, and my groupie. I like it! Bet the house on it, folks!
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Well, there were a few variations I made awhile back: one was Anderson, Q, Rodon the other: Anderson, Moncada, Rodon. They live in the ether and are a bit dire. I decided no minor leaguers hit the banner until they debut, this isn't futuresox. So who gets featured? I typically go 3 pics, can be the same dude or any combination of ML players. Scrap those. Moncada, Eloy, and Kopech. That's where my vote goes.
  22. Looked at winter league stats for the Dominican league for the heck of it. Some ex white sox players tore up the Dominican winter league. The batting leading in 2008 was Mr. Pablo Ozuna, with a robust .390 average. The batting leader in 2009 was Timo Perez, with a .356 average. ....Fernando Tatis Sr. hit .338 and .294 in those years, respectively.
  23. Stopped after reading #2. Sigh
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 06:08 PM) https://twitter.com/HayesNBCS/status/919335527056154624 Not AZ fall League, but Eloy highlights Man that kid has light tower power
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) I think you trade anyone in all of baseball for the right offer, but the right offer rarely comes forward. Good point. You probably don't get the right offer for avi and abreu honestly.
