I was in junior high school, 6th grade to be exact, and we were playing softball in my coed PE class. The score was tied and it was the 4th or 5th inning, iirc. I came up to bat and hit a rocket to the outfield where a bunch of girls were talking in a little circle. I started rounding the bases...rounded first, second, then third...I was coming home for an inside-the-park home run!!! Or was I? Instead of going to home plate, I touched the "on deck" circle, and the guy from CF throws a cannon to the guy who was catching. I obviously thought I had hit an inside-the-park home run, even celebrating with one of my friends who thought I had accomplished a feat never done in our PE class before. But the guy who was catching stood there with the biggest grin on his face, ran over to me, and tagged me out, and started laughing. The moral of the story: Don't confuse the "on deck" circle for home plate!

Yes. Now, for the next six weeks, they will be rebroadcasting a bunch of tournaments from this season. So, we must wait til Labor Day to see the Ken Jennings Show once again. Watch Jeopardy's ratings drop now!

Welcome aboard! Though some posters bicker about WSI, there are others who post here and there. I don't think WSI is a bad place at all. This and WSI are just two great places to talk about our Palehose. I really love the TBGR over at WSI, but, as you mentioned, the minor league coverage over here is unbeatable! If someone's called up from the minors, someone here will be able to tell us all about him!

Seriously, if Lance wins this whole thing again, which it looks like he will do barring a major setback in any of the last three stages, the French are going to be all up in arms about him being on STEROIDS, yada yada yada. They just can't get it in their heads that Americans are better!

What happens if the place doesn't meet certain criteria? Do they close the place down and have them play games in OUR ballpark? :puke I think they should be relegated to an area minor league team's ballpark, since they ARE a minor league ballclub!

I think the dumbest thing is that starting pitchers only get a 5-day suspension, when that, in reality, translates into ONE start!!! In the world of suspensions, starting pitchers get of WAAAAAAAAAAY easier than anyone else. They should miss at least TWO starts!

Jon "Big Inning" Garland? Care to explain why?

Which comes this August, where the easiest part of the Twins' schedule is a home series against Cleveland in the middle of the month. That month is filled with games against the tough AL West, while our Sox get a steady diet of Detroit, KC, and Cleveland. The only two series that are really questionable for our Sox are the two against Boston, which I seriously could see splitting. August HUGELY favors our Sox. Though we only have, IIRC, one day off in the last month and a half, our competition really isn't as tough as what has been faced already (THIS time Oakland comes HERE), and we finish the season off with Detroit and Kansas City, while the Twins have a series in the final week against the Yankees! All we gotta do is pound the Twins into submission in our last 9 games with them (we're 7-3 against them already), and you can basically put margarine on them, because they'll be TOAST!

The only thing here that has left me scratching my head is that Maggs was put out in RF. He should be gradually given more of the game back after the long time period that he was out for. I was thinking that at least 2 weeks of DHing would have been the best thing for Maggs with a little bit of running on the treadmill on the side.

By all means, I wouldn't call Loaiza an ACE! He's our third best pitcher right now! Last year WAS a fluke. There's no way he's going to win 20 games again at this rate. But we don't need a #3 starter to win 20 games. What we need him to do is get AT LEAST 6 innings in (closer to 7 would be better) and get the game to the bullpen with a LEAD. He hasn't been able to do this lately, as he seems to lose concentration and then any lead our offense has given him completely vanishes! Could there be a problem with his throwing arm that nobody knows about? I'm starting to wonder...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Timo didn't make that diving catch in the bottom of the 2nd inning tonight, the tale of the tape could have very well been much different and maybe not even in our favor. For those of you who missed it, the ball appeared as if it was going to hit down and go all the way to the wall, since there was nobody backing Timo up in RF. But, Timo dove and grabbed it in the webbing of his glove right before it hit the ground. At the time, we had a 1-0 lead, and they had runners on 1st and 2nd. Both of these runners would've scored had Timo not made the catch, giving Cleveland a 2-1 lead and possibly a different outcome to the game. Timo, you did your job once again! Props are headded your way!

That's really not a week lineup. Garcia's gonna be strong tonight, feeding off of Buehrle's Soxess last night, though not equaling his performance quite to a "T." Ferless Predictions: Konerko hits a homer tonight, and Marte pitches a 1-2-3 bottom of the 8th.

When he's one of the best guys in the clubhouse and hitters on this team when he's out there? There is absolutely no cancer in Maggs. Heck, there's really nobody on this squad who has cancerous tendencies... You meant to put that in GREEN, right, Steve?

Well, that's good to know...Herm is tops in baseball, so he knows what he's talking about. As long as we have Everett, Maggs should not be playing in the field until he's FULLY healed. DHing won't be so much of a strain on him. I don't know why Ozzie's even put him out on the field at all. Lee/Everett/Rowand is FINE in the OF...for now, especially with how Rowand's been performing.

Definitely, especially since it's against the Twins at home. It would be the ultimate way to send another message to those punks...especially Torri Hunter (I can't stand the guy).

If you want to see Garcia pitch, I'd suggest coming out on Tuesday instead, because Buehrle's going on Monday. I most likely won't be at any of the games this weekend. I need to be putting as much $ aside, because I'm moving into my own place for good in a few months. But I'll be there in spirit.

They'll make a reality TV show with a camera focused on ss2k4 24/7 sitting on an office chair posting at Soxtalk. It will gain the highest ratings in television history!

He will become more of a Jon if he can stop getting himself into the "big inning" where he seems to lose composure. Anyways, $75k is, I'm sure, more than a lot here make in a year. Perhaps he could still write that check, but for fans.

Shutting down sections of Wrigley Field??? But didn't they do that to the ENTIRE UPPER DECK back in the 1960s because they had trouble selling tickets??? Awww, what a shame!!! I would just hope that THAT team wouldn't be relegated to playing at Comiskey if they had to shut it down and tear it up in case of emergency. Instead, make them play at UIC or Northwestern's stadiums. Make the team (and their fans) super uncomfortable. It's not like they could even fill THOSE seats with fans who know the game.

Something Alexander Karpovtsev always had troubles doing...even to the point that he SCORED GOALS FOR THE OTHER TEAM!!!!! This is the type of size we need on the blueline. A guy who doesn't get many penalty minutes but can be that enforcer needed to help better our forechecking unit. He won't get into many altercations, because nobody's gonna wanna mess with him. This was a decent move indeed.

As an aside, I wonder if they'll let Ronnie Woo Woo play this game!!!
