That seems terribly pessimistic and ignores a bunch of other factors, but to each their own.

Adding young, controllable players isn't free though. That is what you conveniently ignore in your analysis. Outman for example would be great to just add to this mix. But now you lost your closer, or perhaps your SS (in a larger deal). FAs like Gallo don't cost anything but $. Sox can't really try to compete, while also trading off some of their best players. The Sox are sort of boxed into at least giving this thing the ol' college try in 23. If it fails, they can pivot midseason and/or next offseason. Also, for as much as you talk up guys like Outman or even Stone Garrett while bashing what someone like Gallo bring to the table, there is next to no chance those guys accumulate over 15 fWAR that Gallo did during their initial contracts.

It'd be pretty tough for this team to be worse than they were last year IMHO. Getting Tony out of the way is going to be immensely helpful. But yeah, key players are going to need to perform better than they did in 22 and stay on the field.

This. Let's just assume for a second the Sox sign Gallo to 1/$10M and Frazier for $1/5M and otherwise stand pat to stay under their self-imposed $185M payroll limit. Sox now have the following players with 1 or 2 seasons of control: Contolled thru 2023: Grandal, Giolito, Lopez, Gallo, Frazier, Clevinger (mutual option for 24, but effectively only controlled 1 year), Diekman Controlled thru 2024: Anderson (team option), Lynn (team option), Hendriks (team option), Kelly (team option), Graveman, Leury At that point, Sox can basically see how things go April-June 2023, and literally sell off a boatload of pieces with half a season to 1.5 seasons of control if it doesn't go well. Sure, if it doesn't go well, certainly some of those players are going to be valueless (or close), but other will not be. Its not the absolute worst case scenario. This doesn't even make mention of guys like Cease and Kopech who are controlled through 2025 that would have significant value if Sox decided to blow it up, especially Cease.

While I put little value is "MLBScoops", Frazier does make a good bit of sense assuming he's very cheap. We can add him to the 2B mix with the kids. He can fill in the OF until Colas arrives. He hits RHP decently. Ideally, he's a bench player unless he earns an everyday role, but gives the Sox some insurance around the diamond.

You get TLR emojis because it’s all you say. Move on dude. No one wants to hear you measure your electronic scouting penis anymore. It’s unbearable. Stone Garrett is gone and Aquino signed in the NPB because he’s awful. No one on Sox talk is impressed by your self acclaimed scouting greatness.

Believe it or not, the Sox had the third highest batting average in the AL last season. Batting average isn't the issue.

I mean, who? If the Sox have call it $15M to spend (I am not agreeing with it, just using it as an example), and need to fill call it two spots for sure (2 OFs), maybe a 2B and perhaps a backup catcher...how are you going to do that without some sort of reclamation project? The options are extremely limited if that is your budget, and there really aren't any OFs that can "hit and catch" that fit into that self-imposed budget.

I wouldn't, and we still have Sheets. The defense trade alone makes it worth it. Gallo, despite his career .199 batting average, is a 10% above league average offesnive contributor. I don't expect a Gallo to create fan excitement, but we literally have 1 OF on the 40 man roster. If he's awful, we can still play Sheets. If he's not, well then...he adds some things the 2022 version of this team was awful at.

He’s more a utility player as much as it’s going internal at 2B. We need guys that can play OF too.

Well that’s what happens when your owner pulls the plug mid “contention window”.

At least a Gallo-Robert-Colas OF defense would be at worst solid, could be pretty good. You know I like Conforto and too would prefer him, but that’s the plus with Gallo. He’s also cheaper. But these (Gallo + Frazier) are the types of deals you have to make if you keep the roster intact and not blow past $185M.

That’s a lot of $.

Gallo + Frazier and hope everyone else rebounds. Probably still need a RH 4th OF but grab one for $2M in Feb or a controllable one via trade. Ugly AF but here we are.

If we're capped out, I'd be looking like and hard at trading everyone controlled 2 years or less.

Yah, I get the thought process obviously. I jsut think the we "need to move Liam" bit is a little overdone.

Twins are going to be adding payroll. Their projected payroll right now is $92.5M after $150M or so last season. They have plenty of $ to spend. I'd much rather it go to Swanson than Correa.

Liams $14M isn’t going to magically solve this rosters issues.
