  1. He's not really owned that much $. $12M AAV over 23 and 24 with two additional team options. I'd happily roll the dice on him staying healthy for htat price tag as opposed to dumping him for next to nothing. $12M is mice nuts in today's game. He should - as i've been saying for over a year now - be the primary DH, tho. Fuck his feelings. He hasn't earned the ability to choose where he plays.
  2. Trading Vaughn as the centerpiece of Soto allows the rest of the roster to fall into much better place, assuming that Abreu is going no where (probably safe assumption). I love AV. But that is a move I'd make.
  3. Which is exactly the reason the Sox shouldn't trade him for pennies on the dollar. Eloy would be close to a toss-in in a Soto trade. He has very little value right now. He's worth far more to the Sox right now than anyone else.
  4. This. Most of this board has lost all ability to look at Grandal objectively. I bet he comes back and looks much closer to late season 21 Grandal than early season 22 Grandal.
  5. Why would they want Eloy? It makes no sense.
  6. Yep, cannot fault them for putting their best guys out there. Lance still gets a few days of extra rest.
  7. That's fair. I don't think the Sox will be trading for Soto. Though AV is just as valuable as a blue chip prospect, IMO. He know he's not going to flop.
  8. It is. Teams hug their elite prospects even more now than they did 5 years ago.
  9. Agreed. I think you add up the sums of the parts, the package will look very similar.
  10. Montgomery and Colas are really our only prospects to get too worked up about. I'd happily trade AV + a mixture of Mena/Sosa/Vera or really anyone else not on the MLB roster for Soto. Its the inclusion of Montgomery who is a profile of player we've lacked forever that gives me major pause. And I love AV. But if you can flip 4.3 seasons of AV plus bustable prospects for 2.3 seasons of Soto in the midst of our contention window, ya gotta do it.
  11. Yeah, I know what you meant by Vera/Mena/Sosa
  12. Sale also had more control, and was actually on a team friendly contract. Soto has less control, and will be paid likely $60M+ over the next 2 seasons via arb.
  13. The Sox aren't committing $500M tho. So its prospects for 2 seasons and 2 months of Soto, who then leaves.
  14. My guess: 22nd - Giolito 23rd - Martin, Cueto 24th - Cease 25th - OFF 26th - Lynn 27th - Kopech 28th - OFF 29th - Giolito 30th - Cueto 31st - Cease 1st - Lynn 2nd - Kopech
  15. Trading Montgomery, Sosa, Mena/Veras AND AV is gutting the future, though. Soto is awesome. Solves a ton of problems. I just said I'd trade AV, Sosa, Mena/Veras for him. I'd draw the line at including Montgomery for a guy we'll pay around $60M for 2 seasons and then watch him walk, and now our future is gutted. Not sure why I entered this chat though. The Sox aren't trading for Soto.
  16. Straight up? Sure. Along with AV, Sosa and one of our two best pitching prospects which the post was referring to? Probably not.
  17. Yeah, that's fair. I am not trading Montgomery though.
  18. Yeah, I think Kopech will be held back until Tue or Wednesday in Colorado. Give him just short of 2 weeks rest.
  19. Perhaps. But as we saw with Sale, there is a point of diminishing returns. Soto is stud, but he has just 2 years of control left at large AAVs. My take: he'll get a lot less in return than people are proposing. 1 blue chip prospect or good young MLB player (Vaughn in this case), 1 top 40-100 type (Sosa), 1 other solid prospect outside top 100s (Mena/Vera) but in most orgs top 10, and then a filler piece. In other words, its going to look a lot like the Sale return. JMO.
  20. Not really sure. Don’t watch much Nats baseball. I’m confident saying he’s a a better OF than AV, but I was shocked to see him graded out as one of the worst OF in the game this season.
  21. Fwiw, Vaughn and Soto have the two worst OOAA in the OF this season. I didn’t know Soto was a very poor defender tbh, but the stats say he has been this season. I would trade Vaughn + Sosa/Rodriguez + Mena/Vera for Soto, tho. I love AV but that solves a considerable issue with this roster. That’d be my top offer tho. Dude is controlled for 2 seasons at what will surely be monster AAVs via arb.
  22. There used to be a great poster back in the WSI days with that screen name. Which one of you is the former WSI Craig Grebeck?
  23. I don’t think Sox are optioning Sheets right now. He’s played basically everyday since he got recalled and has been solid. They aren’t picking one of the catchers over Sheets right now.
  24. I don't see any realistic scenario where Sheets gets optioned. They also missed the trade Zavala option. Have to imagine you could get a live arm for him at this point.
  25. For 2 seasons of Soto at monster arb numbers? Lol Nats fans gonna be disappointed in the ultimate return…
