9/14 GT: Angels @ White Sox, 7:10
I mean, you're not wrong. .219/.294/.288 slash with 3 homers and 9 RBI across 165 PA is pretty Yolmer-like. Hope the Sox try to figure out a way to improve on Cesar this offseason. Not priority A like RF should be. At this point, I am not even sure you pick up the option because if you do end up finding a fit for 2B elsewhere, you may need to eat $ to trade Cesar. I am sure am going to miss Nicky.

Gio back, Collins up, Mendick and Seby down
He probably wouldn’t clear waivers actually. In fact, a bunch of team would Take a chance on a guy with his profile and cheap no strings attached control .

Future rotation may look like this
Yeah, I also don't think he's going to get the paydays some around here think ($120M+ Wheeler deal is comp that has been thrown around), but IMO his floor is $15-18M AAV on a 3 year deal, assuming he doesn't get seriously injured next 45 days. Still not really an investment I think the Sox should or will make based on where things currently stand.

I hear ya. But I don't think Jerry's loyalty is going to outweigh his dislike for handing pitchers monster contracts, not to mention one that can't stay healthy and frankly has a very limited track record of actually being good. Then there's also the fact that the rotation is pretty set already moving forward.

There is no way the CBA is hammered out before the QO decision is due. It’ll exist. The compensation may ultimately change tho.

Future rotation may look like this
Then hand him a QO. Lynn, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, and Keuchel is the 2022 rotation. ReyLo has probably worked his way into the coversation to take starts for Kopech to keep innings in check since they botched that situation in 21, and hopefully some for Keuchel as well to keep him under 160 innigns since it looks like they're going to botch that in 21 as well. I just don't see how being the high bidder on Rodon at $18-20M AAV over 3-5 year is a wise-use of resources, or a good investment. Some people here even think he might get into Wheeler terrority, which I highly doubt, but you really think Sox are going to hand out potentially their biggest contract ever to a guy who can't stay healthy under their watch, and has a total of like 20 starts of being anything more than a backend SP? So yeah, color me convinced. Even if he is the WS MVP.

Rodon will not be pitching for the Sox past 2021. I’d bet very large sums of money on that.

Corbin Burnes Trade Discussion Redeux
I’m still not trading Eloy or Kopech For Burnes based on current team construction. Now that we don’t have Madrigal id obviously do a deal around him. But didn’t like it at the time - was wrong.

I’m bored, just waiting for the post season
This. How TF is this boring? I would agree the Sox have played some uninspired ball last 60 days or so, but I’m not bored. More baseball is better. Shortening the season would be catering to those that don’t like the game - don’t do it.

9/8 ? v. ? GT
Would love to see Keuchel get on track. Nice big ballpark he's familiar with would be a nice place to do it.

Worried about the playoff rotation?
Carlos has never made 30 starts in a season. He's averaged just 16 starts a season over a 7 year career. Any team handing him $120M+ would be insane. That's without even taking into account he has a 20 game sample of being anything more than a backend SP. I wish Carlos the best following 2021 and I hope he can stay healthy. I certainly hope we get the A+ version of Carlos in October. But if anyone signs him to a multi-year deal over $15M AAV, they're going to regret it.
-
Worried about the playoff rotation?
Yet some people around here think some team is going to hand Rodon a Wheeler-like contract? Dude just can't stay healthy. Even 4/$60M would be a sizable gamble.

Worried about the playoff rotation?
I think SF bows out in first round. Good team for sure but theyve way overachieved. If we can run out a healthy Giolito, Lynn, Rodon in ALDS and then Cease takes the 4th spot in the ALCS, I am not too worried. But if those guys aren’t healthy - obviously the concern rises significantly. As others have said, we’ll see where we’re at in a few weeks. I’d love to play good baseball in Sep, but getting healthy for October IS more important.

9/3 game thread Sox @ KC *Rain Delay*
Fegan saying it’s not too good. Hope to get this one in.

In Defense of Leury
Leury is a substantially better player than Mendick. And that is before taking into account the extreme versatility. I usually agree with your baseball takes, but not sure what you're digging your heels in on this one. No one is crowning Leury an all-star - just a very useful bench piece on a good team that has been forced into frequent duty this year because he's stayed healthy and no one else has. He also is a great clubhouse and wants to be in Chicago. Those things also matter.

In Defense of Leury
LOL!!!!! Still hates Grandal! This guy, ladies and gentlemen…It’s personal, for some reason.

In Defense of Leury
I….just…..I disagree. I like fWAR as much as anyone but just don’t agree in this instance. I also am surprised Yolmer doesn’t have an mlb job, but then I look at his 2021 and yikes. Leury isn’t some world beater. I’m not saying they should sign him to a lifetime deal or that I’m gonna be torn apart if he leaves. But he clearly fits will on this team. No I don’t want him starting and yea he’s played too much this year out of necessity. But Hell yes am I interested in resigning him to a 1 or 2 year deal at $2.5-3.5M. It’s chump change. He’s useful. That’s it. That’s all anyone is saying.
-
In Defense of Leury
Lol I don’t really think there is much love here. Dudes a rock solid 25/6th man. Can play anywhere and is a pretty good defender wherever you stick him. I’d take 100x over Mendick and for $2-3M a year which I’m sure all it would take to retain him…not a bad use of funds.

White Sox playoff position tracker
I mean, they're still good and will be for a few years. But they traded away ALOT and don't have much to show for it yet. And its not the young of a team.
-
White Sox playoff position tracker
They also pretty effectively reduced their window of being good with all the trades the past couple seasons. I certainly am happy Hahn & Co didn't operate that way.
-
Rodon Contract Value
The QO is still in effect for this coming offseason tho, yah? No way the CBO is hammered out before that deadline.
-
Rodon Contract Value
There is no way in hell Rodon gets close to $120M IMO. Not even close. He’d be fortunate to get half. Feel feee to quote me if I’m wrong down the road. Certainly may be. But with his history, I don’t see it. 4/$80M I could see as about his max imo. I think 3/$55M is probably closer. But who knows.
-
Rodon Contract Value
Rodon isn't coming back, and the Sox shouldn't spend the $ it will require to get him. I am guessing $15-18M AAV on the 3-4 year deal. I love (this version) of Carlos, but that isn't good to be a good deal for whoever signs that
-
In Defense of Leury
I am with you. I'd love to do better. But like....who? The guys I listed are going to be outside of the Sox budget. Maybe Semien is still floating around in Jan/Feb and we can get him for like 2/$25M and then ship Cesar off somewhere else at that point? Otherwise you're looking at guys like Eduardo Escobar, Jurickson Profar, Miguel Rojas, etc. I'd probably prefer Escobar to Cesar like I did in July (putting aside bad wheel) but its close. The others are worse than Cesar. I guess Chris Taylor could be an interesting fit and nice middle ground. He's older and that should keep his price tag down a bit.

In Defense of Leury
I wouldn't doubt it. There was that story for a few years ago when Sox were going to non-tender Leury and he legitimately begged Hahn/FO to give him another chance. He wants to be in Chicago, and now that they're actually good, I am sure he loves being a part of it. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he's brought back. In fact, I expect it. Like I mention 2/$5-7M should get it done, and is a perfectly reasonable allocation of resources. I think the bigger question is becoming if Cesar's $6M is as big of a no brainer as it appeared a few weeks ago. Obviously could do much worse as your 9 hitter, but I hope Sox pick up the option and monitor that middle IF market. Lots of spendy options in C Seager, Story, Correa, Baez, Semien. Doubt any of those would be fits though with where the Sox payroll is going, and really need a LHB at 2B with this lineup. So its going to be Cesar in all likelihood - talked myself out of it.
