  1. Because punting a year of control for 5 games is very short sighted. Sox are 1-2 with Madrigal and 1-2 without him. Sox aren’t the only team in baseball making these types of decisions, and if anything, with the extensions they’ve been more aggressive than most.
  2. Glad RR is ok. Putting aside health, would prefer just about anyone else managing this ball club.
  3. Hmmm. Not much fat on the 40 man. Seby could go. Detwiler obviously, but its not him with him making roster. Only other guys would be Burdi, Dunning flores, Adolo, Hamilton, Basabe, Foster, Rutherford, and Ruiz. Not really in a hurry to cut any of those guys. Headscratcher keeping Detwiler and Cuthburt around if its going to cost as an interesting young guy.
  4. I fully expect you’re wrong. And the Sox are making the right call getting the extra year when it’s like 5 games. Mazara “injury” does open the door a tad tho.
  5. Did the Sox just pass on their bottom of the 9th?
  6. My guy Derek Dietrich was recently released. I’d give him a call.
  7. Yeah, I don't see Madrigal on the team until August 1 or so.
  8. I suspect you'll see a lot of impending FA on the teams that get off to bad starts moving around. The returns will be negligible though. Probably mainly fringe 40/60 man pieces as the return.
  9. Maybe he shouldn't have needlessly handed Jose Abreu $18M in 2021. Kidding..... Sort of....
  10. He is not. But he could, theoretically, get added at a later date.
  11. A little surprised no Thompson or Dalquist on the taxi squad. Also no Palka, so the rumors about his days being done with the Sox all but confirmed. Is a guy like Palka still owned by the sox, or can he sign with someone else? Really sucks if he's basically stuck in an org that has no plans to use him.
  12. If the wife is pregnant, are we 100% sure he doesn’t get service time? I know some of the early proposals had guys accruing service time if wives had pre existing medical conditions. Does pregnancy count? Not sure if that was changed in final agreement.
  13. Watch Garfien's next tweet for Exhibit A why Yermin can't play 3B.
  14. IIRC, the reports of Yermin's ability to actually play 3B at the AAA were not very kind. Yes, he can stand over there. Yes, he can probably make 8/10 routine plays. No he is not an everyday option at 3B. He would make Miguel Sano look like a gold glover.
  15. As is Jose. Like he always does every ST. I wouldn't read too much into it.
  16. I know I quoted you, but it was more of a general comment. People around here tend to downplay what Madrigal brings to the table. Just let him go out there and play ball and hold down 2B for the foreseeable future. He's going to be a good one, and like I said, an awesome fit on this roster. Vaughn is going to play 1B for the Sox and is incredibly unlikely to play an inning in the big leagues in 2020. I have no issues with him taking reps at other positions in ST (much like Jose always takes reps at 3B in ST), but our IF in pretty locked down for the next 5 years outside of 1B.
  17. Madrigal is literally the perfect complementary piece on this roster. He does EXACTLY the things the Sox have lacked for years. Let's stop trying to replace him or trade him or upgrade from him. Just let him go out there and play gold glove defense, hit .290-.310 and be towards the top of the league in putting the ball in play the next 6-7 seasons.
  18. Yeah, I missed that the Sox already optioned him back in March. My misunderstanding.
  19. Upon further review, yes they did. Good catch.
  20. I'd option him in a heartbeat. Just not sure the Sox will.
  21. Is it really speculation when the guy has flat out said he has mental health issues?
  22. Problem is, the Sox will only control him 4 seasons by the time he's ready to pitch in the bigs again (assuming the worst for this season for a second). Unless, of course, the Sox do what they should do and option him if he doesn't come back in the next couple weeks. But the Sox being the loyal group that they are, I'd be a bit surprised to see him optioned if its mental health isssues. 2/3 of his cheap control gone with a grand total of 14 MLB innings pitched. Not great.
