  1. They'll get their chances if they're good enough. Keep one spot open for Kopech. Dunning can fill in until June. When Kopech comes back, chances are someone else is one the shelf by then. Stiever hasn't thrown a pitch over A ball - I agree he's a really nice prospect, but I am not saving any MLB spots for him at the moment. I don't see why the Sox can't sign a Robby Ray or a Quintana and also take a run a legit RF.
  2. Dudes get hurt. Dunning and Stiever will get their shot. And Kopech will be in the minors until at least June next season, and counting on him for much of anything at this point is probably the wrong thing to do. Adding a guy like Robby Ray, Stroman or Quintana, dudes that shouldn't break the bank or destroy the club if they end up sucking, would go a LONG ways in making the rotation deeper, more talented and more insulated. So start the year like this: Giolito, Keuchel, Cease, FA (Ray/Stroman/Quintana), Lopez/Dunning/Rodon (doubt he's around)/other. Then come june you have Giolito, Keuchel, Cease, FA above, and hopefully Kopech, with Lopez, Dunning, Stiever, Lambert all as back up options.
  3. I think we definitely want to play tehse games. They have played in 2 weeks! I watched a couple of the Twins-Cards series before the CV tests, and the Cards looked really bad. I think its best of the Sox to play, sitting idle for 4.5 days midseason is a long time. Why are people saying they can't play Friday? Hasn't there only been 1 positive test in like the last 10 days?
  4. No way Cease is removed from the rotation anytime soon. They're going to give Cease just as much time as they gave Gioltio to figure it out as SP, which means at the VERY least all the way through 2021. I'd even say due to this truncated 2020 season, he has until mid 2022 before they consider other options (assuming health).
  5. Bauer would be awesome. Ray would be a nice consolation prize. Stroman and Quintana would be nice to backend pieces. Nothing after that gets me excited. Of those 4 guys I listed, none are super elite, so I don't think any of these guys are going to be wildly expensive. That being said, Bauer, Ray and Stroman are probably the top of the market so you never know how desperate club will get. One thing I know - we need to bring another solid SP on board. We got Giolito, Keuchel, and Cease. I'd save one spot for Kopech/Dunning/Lopez, though I think Lopez is pretty much done as starter at this point, and I'd be very surprised if Rodon is even on this team next year. Can't rely on those guys to fill 2 spots, so need to go get someone this offseason if you want 2021 to be a legit contender in a normal season.
  6. Reminds me a lot of Jason Frasor.
  7. Sure, but to say he shouldn’t be DFA’d?? Who wants that kid eating more MLB innings?
  8. His purpose is to allow McCann and Grandal to both be in the lineup a few times a week. But yeah.
  9. Grandal played something like 154 games last year. He’s already set a few this year. When he’s not catching, he needs to be at 1B or DH the vast majority of the time. I am fine with McCann catching a couple times a week, but sitting Grandal is super stupid, especially when Abreu is in the lineup against RHP.
  10. DFAing Basabe was stupid. Once you DFA'd him, I guess getting something is better than nothing.
  11. Renteria is awful. Plain awful. But I think he's probably the guy for the forseeable future.
  12. Anderson, Moncada, Robert, Eloy, Grandal, Abreu, Encarnacion, Mazara, Leury/Madrigal is fine with me. So long as Robert is moved to third if he's not leadoff, I don't really care. Batting him outside the top 3 is insanely stupid. But we all know Ricky isn't moving Abreu off the 3 hole.
  13. I thought you can only trade guys on your 60 man roster?
  14. Who gets optioned today? Delmonico would be the logical choice, but why not DFA him 2 days ago instead of Basabe if that was the plan. Goins probably safe for now until Timmy comes back. Maybe they DFA Lail before throwing a pitch? Probably want to keep Collins up so they can continue to play both Grandal and McCann a couple times a week. Sure looks like Delmonico to me, but a real headscratcher with the Basabe news earlier this week.
  15. Lets get this one and take 3/4.
  16. Other problem is you have to trade from you 60 man - so its not like you can just trade low level lottery tickets for a stopgap vet.
  17. Who then? They need to leave Detwiler where he is. Despite not wanting that guy anywhere near the MLB roster, he's been quite good and I don't see a reason to fuck with that. With Lambert Hurt, Dunning and Flores apparently not the one, and Lopez/Rodon IL'd, is Clayton Richard the only option?
  18. Yes we do, not sure what he's talking about.
  19. At least its the left shoulder. Still not convinced its not something much worse. If you slowmo down that slide, it sure looks like his forearm snapped up near his elbow. https://twitter.com/pinwheelsivypod/status/1290814114302849024?s=21 pause / slow mo at 50 second mark and watch forearm.
  20. I was a big proponent of giving Rodon another shot in 2020, but if he's toast for this year, his Sox career is ovah. Damn shame, really.
  21. I, like others, don't really get why you DFA Basabe over Delmonico who has no role on this team with Mazara back. But I also trust the Sox have a pretty good feel for Basabe at this point. I can't really imagine he clears waivers, but with him being out of options next year (along with Adolfo I believe) there just isn't space for him. Especially for a dude who is still just 26 years old.
  22. Hard to imagine that isn’t it for Carlos in a Sox uni if he doesn’t return this season.
