  1. Was interesting that the Sox listed Leury as an "infielder" in the arb releases last week. *Said Yolmer, meant Leury
  2. Bench bat. Someone to cover 3B and SS for a couple weeks if need be. Fill in at 2B until Madrigal arrives. I am not necessarily all that interested in bringing back Yolmer, but we really could use someone that can play all the IF positions. We're super thin on the left side in there is an injury. I would probably prefer Brad Miller, if only because its something different.
  3. Grandal: A+ Keuchel: B, but SP was looking like an F Abreu extension: C- Mazara trade: C Robert extension: A Gio Gonzalez: B- Encarnacion: B Cishek: B- not trading away young, cheap and controllable talent: A+ overall: high B / low B+
  4. I'd rather have depth like Guerrero, Medeiros, Frare and Burr than minor league journeymen or guys that have no shot of ever appearing in the big leagues. These guys are 26 years old and under, with the exception of Gurrerro who is a little older but also throws over 100 MPH. 3/4 have MLB experience. Chances are none of them end up being difference makers in the big leagues, but - like I said - it is nice to have them around if only purely as depth that isn't on the 40 man. Your argument that "those roster spots would be filled anyway" is a comically bad way to look at it.
  5. Just going to agree to disagree. Having depth in the org isn't a bad thing, and definitely not worth scoffing about.
  6. Lol, says the guy who also complains about Covey getting opportunities. Having depth is important. I wouldn't have a batted an eye if Medeiros or Guerrero were claimed, but its definitely nice to have them around. Between those two and Burr and Frare, there are some interesting pen arms, 3/4 with MLB experience and the other a former 1st rounder, who the Sox could have lost all for nothing. Instead they are all sitting in AAA as insurance. Its certainly not huge news, but its a nice development for the org whether you agree or not.
  7. Tayron Guerrero and Kodi Medeiros have cleared waivers and we're outrighted to Triple A Charlotte — Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) January 10, 2020 Already posted by @Sleepy Harold in the Encarnacion thread, but probably worth its own thread. Two interesting arms that both could appear in Chicago in 2020 are retained in the organization. Good news.
  8. Final tallies: Colome ($10,532,500) +$232,500 Garcia ($3,250,000) -$750,000 Rodon ($4,450,00) -$50,000 Marshall ($1,100,000) -$200,000 Mazara ($5,560,000) -$140,000 A total of $907,500 in "savings" today compared to estimates.
  9. Well he's probably our OD 2B at the moment, so I am guessing that is why he is classified as such.
  10. Nice. Down to just Leury. edit: oh and Rodon.
  11. Nice....timing makes it look they put Medeiros on waivers prior to the DFA.
  12. But Sox had an 8 man pen for most (all?) of the last couple seasons with a 25 man roster. They're not going to go down to 7 with the extra roster spot.
  13. Surprised Sox were willing to go over the estimate on Colome.
  14. Dbacks extend David Peralta - 3 years $22M with $1.25M in annual incentives. Nice deal for the Dbacks. Peralta was a guy I wanted to target via trade for RF for 2020. He was also a FA next offseason, so one less guy that makes sense if Mazara doesn't make real strides in 2020.
  15. I'd be shocked if Mendick stays on the MLB roster once Madrigal arrives. In fact, I'd be a little surprised if he even makes the OD roster as I think they'll add a IF on a 1 year deal. But no, the Sox aren't going to have a 5 man bench.
  16. I came across this shirt online a couple weeks ago.....had to buy it. https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/6059747-jimmy-biceps?store_id=242134
  17. I may be in the minority, but I love his sleeves look. Man is ripped.
  18. I don't doubt that Cease was discussed in trade talk this offseason to the extent that other teams kept asking about him. I highly doubt the Sox actually offered Cease for 2 years of Thor.
  19. Keuchel will almost certainly be wearing #60. Cordero will likely receive an ATV, or a boat, or some other insanely generous gift for switching his number.
  20. Don't really see the fit with Maybin, to be honest.
  21. The return for a guy with minimal surplus value on a market rate deal shouldn't be 3 top 40 prospects. Even if there were no money involved. That is a crazy good return.
  22. Cash is a pretty big factor there. How much cash? If like $20M, that is such a no brainer for the Rockies. Who is beating that? That is like trading Cease, Madrigal and Vaughn for him. Crazy town.
  23. I doubt their fans feel the same. They haven't advanced past the division series since 2008 when they beat the Sox. Did make the playoffs 4/11 seasons, but haven't won a series. The Rays do it an interesting way and very cheapy, but its not like they've actually done anything with it.
  24. The man definitely had someone telling him stuff. He did pretty well. He'll live in infamy here for years.
