? Jim Pohlad has been the owner since 09, and hasn’t handed over anything.

The Twins are going to sign pitching. They need it even more than the Sox. I fully expect them to land at least one of Wheeler, Bumgarner, or Keuchel. They’ll likely add another slightly lesser FA as well - maybe bring back Pineda. After Berrios and Odo, they have Graterol who they can maybe hope for 15 starts from, and then a few fringe guys. They’re going to spend some money this offseason - their window is now.

Angels sign Rendon - 7yrs 245
It will be. That should be one of his last handful of games in AAA.

FWIW - at this point, the Twins have just as much flexibility as the Sox.

Yolmer non-tendered
Derek Dietrich is my guess as the cheap guy they add for the bench to fill in to start the year.
-
Yolmer non-tendered
Much more likely Leury is in CF and a veteran bench piece we add is playing 2B For the first couple weeks.

Yolmer non-tendered
I think if there were mutual interest in Yolmer coming back a lower figure, this move wouldn’t be necessary.

WHITE SOX SIGN Grandal 4/$73, Palka DFAd
For sure, never hurts to have AAAA depth.

I don't know though...you could just DFA Yolmer or one of the handful of guys that are highly unlikely to survive the offseason anyway (Zavala, Medeiros, Vieira, Covey, Fulmer) if Wheeler is signed. Don't think this is related, though I do think the timing is strange.

Non tender deadline is literally a week from today, so no.

Yolmer non-tendered
I would think so, yes.

Yolmer non-tendered
He's on outright waivers, so he'd technically have to clear those before the Sox could offer him a deal. I think this means Yolmer is as good as gone. If there was mutual interest in a deal like that, this move wouldn't be necessary.

Yolmer non-tendered
This must be roster space motivated, otherwise I am struggling to figure out what the benefit to outrighting him today is. Non-tender deadline is still a week from today, so unless the Sox think they need the roster spot like....today...not sure why you make this move today. Obviously they know at this point Yolmer didn't have any trade value, but still seems like interesting timing. Maybe a favor to Yolmer? This way if a team claims him, they owe him his final year of arb as opposed to being a FA and likely getting like half his projected arb? Just brainstorming on what the reasoning for making this move today might be.

Yolmer non-tendered
But don't worry everyone, $14M will be the going rate for a utility infield in within 24 months!

WHITE SOX SIGN Grandal 4/$73, Palka DFAd
Palka clears waivers, outrighted to AAA.
-
Yolmer non-tendered
Technically this isn't being non-tendered, he is being played on out-right waivers. Basically means no one offered anything for him.

Yes, 10-15 mins after making it.

Purely personal opinion, but I've found Morosi to be a about the least accurate/connected of all the MLB reports that are widely respected.

Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
This guy has basically gotten nothing right, so hard to take him too seriously. Interesting non-the-less. Do think he was on the Joc to Sox news last year and may have had good info, based on some of Hahn's comments about that deal getting ruined by twitter rumors.

Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.
I don't think there is room to add 2 SP on multi-year deals, unless the 2nd add just such a good value you have to it (ie: Ryu 2/$35M or less). Let's just assume for the sake of this dicussion the Sox sign Wheeler to 5/$100M. In 2021, you rotation options include Gio, Wheeler, Kopech, Rodon, Cease, Lopez, and anything we may get out of the Dunning/Lambert/Flores trio. Basically, we only need 2 SP for 2020, and 1 thereafter. That is why I don't think it makes sense to add 2 SP on multi-year deals, unless like I said, some amazing value falls into your lap. I think the calculus changes when Ryu becomes your main SP add because you can't really rely on the guy for a full season.

He is a FA, so wouldn't be a salary dump.

Rich Hill went under the knife today for an elbow surgery considered an alternative to TJS. Probably can cross him off the list of names that make sense.

Was hoping he would fall to the Sox on waivers. Didn't even make it there.

Lol you're proposing McCann and Yolmer for Benintendi?

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
If another club offered 3/$45M, Jose would have been nuts to accept the QO. Which is precisely why handing him $50M a week later was super stupid.
