  1. A team could still claim and then non tender if they couldn’t get Yolmer to sign a deal they liked in next week. Minimal risk, obviously would just need a 40 man spot.
  2. ...because its an accurate statement - the White Sox have not announced they placed Yolmer on waivers. Placing a player on outright waivers does not directly remove him from the 40 man, so the club probably wouldn't make the announcement until he is formally removed from the roster either via claim or by clearing waivers and being outrighted off the roster.
  3. There is frankly nothing to announce until he's claimed or clear waivers and is removed from the 40 man.
  4. Kipnis certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but on a cheap 1 year deal I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
  5. If the Sox do land him, I just really hope the deal isn't insane. Like it or not, the Sox are going to have budgetary restrictions, and a good way to fuck it is to pay a gross amount of money for a good not great pitcher. We need to do it, but I just hope the deal is 5/$100M max. Still a ton of risk in that deal for the Sox, IMO.
  6. Yah...I mean its one thing to mention a FA in an article about free agency. Its quite another to mention it about a rumored but not club announced or confirmed waiver move freeing a roster spot. I would say that is pretty promising coming from a guy like Merkin, who obviously is directly fed information and told how to disseminate it.
  7. No one is losing their mind. And how is the Sox inside beat writer legitimately naming Zack Wheeler in a Yolmer article not direct? "Zack Wheeler...The team would need an open spot for any sort of free-agent addition, and the right-handed starter is a player who the White Sox had interest in. Any deal with Wheeler would mark another major step in the White Sox push to contention in ’20 and beyond..." seems pretty direct to me.
  8. The patience will be worth it in the end. Its only a couple weeks.
  9. Lol, that is amazingly direct. Pretty obvious this thing is in the works.
  10. I don't think Robert has much of a reason to bite.
  11. Surprised Sox are OK with this. I guess better playing than sitting around eating.
  12. Jim has been in charge since 09. His dad died in 09. To say the twins haven’t been in a position to spend since 09 is not accurate. Change in ownership has absolutely nothing to do with the current ball club. That being said, the Twins are at the peak of their window based on their roster, and I fully expect Falvey and Lavine to make some moves.
  13. ? Jim Pohlad has been the owner since 09, and hasn’t handed over anything.
  14. The Twins are going to sign pitching. They need it even more than the Sox. I fully expect them to land at least one of Wheeler, Bumgarner, or Keuchel. They’ll likely add another slightly lesser FA as well - maybe bring back Pineda. After Berrios and Odo, they have Graterol who they can maybe hope for 15 starts from, and then a few fringe guys. They’re going to spend some money this offseason - their window is now.
  15. It will be. That should be one of his last handful of games in AAA.
  16. FWIW - at this point, the Twins have just as much flexibility as the Sox.
  17. Derek Dietrich is my guess as the cheap guy they add for the bench to fill in to start the year.
  18. Much more likely Leury is in CF and a veteran bench piece we add is playing 2B For the first couple weeks.
  19. I think if there were mutual interest in Yolmer coming back a lower figure, this move wouldn’t be necessary.
  20. I don't know though...you could just DFA Yolmer or one of the handful of guys that are highly unlikely to survive the offseason anyway (Zavala, Medeiros, Vieira, Covey, Fulmer) if Wheeler is signed. Don't think this is related, though I do think the timing is strange.
  21. Non tender deadline is literally a week from today, so no.
  22. He's on outright waivers, so he'd technically have to clear those before the Sox could offer him a deal. I think this means Yolmer is as good as gone. If there was mutual interest in a deal like that, this move wouldn't be necessary.
  23. This must be roster space motivated, otherwise I am struggling to figure out what the benefit to outrighting him today is. Non-tender deadline is still a week from today, so unless the Sox think they need the roster spot like....today...not sure why you make this move today. Obviously they know at this point Yolmer didn't have any trade value, but still seems like interesting timing. Maybe a favor to Yolmer? This way if a team claims him, they owe him his final year of arb as opposed to being a FA and likely getting like half his projected arb? Just brainstorming on what the reasoning for making this move today might be.
