  1. No shit. But the Sox have the same chance to sign Mookie a year from now regardless of what team he plays for in 2020. Something you've absolutely refused to acknowledge.
  2. That just isn't a plausible scenario. It is fantasy land.
  3. Probably not the best way to phase it because obviously he doesn't take a ton of walks, but if he can translate his hit tool to the big leagues, he is still going to have a well above average OBP. The consistent bat to ball contact is something the Sox really need and have lacked for years. Plenty of guys in this lineup that are going to K.
  4. Madrigal is literally the guy this org has lacked for decades. He is a perfect fit for this team - plus defense, plus baserunning, plus bat, plus OBP, doesn't strike out. And he's dirt cheap for like 5 seasons! We cannot trade this kid for a 1 year rental! Betts is not signing an extension!
  5. He wants to trade Cease for him. Has said it many times. Its crazy.
  6. Sure, assuming you're not counting Kopech or really any difference makers on MLB roster. I'd really prefer not to trade Adolfo at the moment, thought I am admittedly probably higher on him than most, but his potential excites me - he could still be a star in this game). While I definitely would consider a deal that was headlined by Dunning or Walker, I'd also prefer to retain those guys if the return is a 1 year player. Just really don't think it makes a ton of sense. No way at team closer to contention won't be willing to pay up handsomely.
  7. There is definitely a package where I would say "fuck it" and would trade for Mookie. I just cannot imagine it would it is something that another teams wouldn't easily beat. Therefore it just seems like such a pipedream. Steiver is probably the "sexiest" name I'd be willing to give up considering where the Sox are in this process and Mookie's contact status.
  8. JDM isn't a fit on this roster anymore. Trading Lopez alone for him would be crazy, let along adding Collins and "a good youngster", whatever that means. JDM has neutral value at best. I admit plugging JDM into DH for 2020 sounds intriguing/fun, but things get real sticky in 21 and 22. It just wouldn't be a very smart move for overall roster construction.
  9. I think Kole Calhoun is the safest bet FA. With Grandal now in hand, I just really hope we do better offensively than Calhoun without totaling punting defense. Honestly just think we need to hope that RF gets filled via trade. Plenty of plausible options - both 1 year stop gaps and longer term options. Have to imagine that is how Hahn plans to solve RF.
  10. Huh? JD has 3 years remaining, with an opt out next year. Yes I want to leave room for Vaughn. No I don’t want to trade for JDM. It makes no sense. No idea what you’re suggesting with Lopez, Collins and “a good youngster”. Hopefully not a trade return for JDM because that would be awful.
  11. Then we have a hole at 2B for the next 7 seasons. Dumb dumb dumb.
  12. Possible but wildly unlikely. Would be such a dumb trade without an extension built in, which is never going to happen.
  13. JDM deal would be a disaster if he doesn’t opt out after 2020. For same reasons as Castellanos, even moreso, with Abreu locked up, he just doesn’t make any sense unless the Sox want to trade Vaughn which I doubt happens.
  14. You now have to convince yourself that an Eloy and Castellanos OF is not only serviceable for 2020, but also 21 and 22. I don’t think he’s an option with Abreu locked up.
  15. Yah, I mean - there aren't any great, frankly even good FA options this offseason. That is very different next offseason. I have little hope for Rutherford, Basabe or Gonzalez, but I do think Adolfo could blow up this year if the guy could just stay on the field. Walker a little further away. I don't mind giving Adolfo a year and if it doesn't work out, Mookie, Springer, Joc and Brantley all FA next offseason, and can always make a trade. David Peralta is my hope for 2020, if the longer term options like Nimmo cost too much.
  16. Castellanos is absolutely 100% not a realistic fit at this point with the Abreu news. Unless they plan to trade Vaughn for pitching and decide to have the worst defense in the league for the next handful of seasons. You could hide Castellanos and Eloy in the same outfield for a season that was always a pipedream to be a playoff year anyway. You can't do it for three. But yes...assume we're at $83. Plus $10M for RF, $20M for Wheeler, and $10M for 1 year stopgap SP you're at $123-125M range. A meh pen man and platoon/bench piece and you're at $133-135M range. That is about as good as we can hope for in 2020, IMO.
  17. That includes Yolmer, and think it is a bit high regardless. Saw that referenced somewhere today on twitter or mlbtr, and it seems high. I believe is $82-84M range without Yolmer.
  18. My understanding is that, in short, fWAR includes catching defensive statistics including framing, bWAR does not. fWAR is just the far superior resource, IMO, but it is a fair question no doubt.
  19. Fuck man, after today - ya never know. Really felt we turned a corner yesterday, and then today happened. Watch the Sox turn around and sign Puig to 4 year $70M deal. (Please don't do this Sox. Pretty please.)
  20. Then you stop ignoring the fact that this was completely unnecessary. $14M is not nothing. There is no fucking way that in 2 years time $14M is going to be the going rate for a utility infielder, as you have suggested at least once in this thread. Completely discounting the $4M in deferrals is also silly. $14M would have been good for 2nd highest paid player on the 2019 team besides...Jose Abreu. Its not nothing. No it is not franchise crippling, but it is $14M less to spend on that team, and one less roster spot to work with. It also really limits the Sox ability to add guys this offseason and next that will need to be DHs in the near future - Castellanos, Ozuna, trading for Martinez, etc. Frankly I don't want any of those guys, so I am personally not worried about it, but this move does without a doubt limit their options. I don't really see anybody having "countless overreactions" - some well informed posters find it to be stupid and unnecessary - which it is. There is no need for you to respond to each post saying its no big deal.
  21. lol your takes in this thread are straight up comical. This extension is not the end of the world, and the Sox will be just fine. But there is a legitimate scenario where Jose regresses to a replacement level player in 21-22 who we are paying $17M AAV. Its just unnecessary, and based on how this team has operated in the Jerry Reinsdorf era, it is fair to suspect this could cause the Sox to cut corners in other spots on the roster when it should be competing for championships because we decided to reward a guy with a $50M deal he didn't deserve. Again, this isn't franchise crippling, but it is also stupid and unnecessary. If Reinsdorf has Ok'd payrolls approaching $175M in 2021 and beyond, then no big deal, but I'll believe that when I see it.
  22. I believe he has an above average arm. Won a GG this year, not that means a ton, but he’s an above average defender. Ive suggested Luis Gonzalez and Codi Heuer elsewhere as the return. Don’t think it would make much more than that. There is some talk that Az may just non tender him.
  23. Even this guy gets it.
