  1. If (big if, because its not going to happen) the Sox move Moncada to RF full time because they signed Rendon, by the time FA rolls around, he isn't going to be an option at 3B any longer, because he will have played OF full time for a half decade. I would think Moncada has more value as an infielder than an outfielder, but again, this is all moot because the Sox aren't moving Moncada to the OF, even if he COULD do it.
  2. I would think they'd want one of Cease, Madrigal or Vaughn, to start. Which is why it should be a HARD PASS.
  3. In other words those of you who think Mookie Betts is a legitimate option - stop.
  4. I would be happy, assuming EE is a 1 year deal and Keuchel is a 2 year deal. Would be tad disappointed Keuchel is the main SP add, but I could live with it on a 2/$30M type deal. I imagine there would be another 1 year SP in there as well, but for sake of argument, I would assume it wouldn't be an overly interesting name.
  5. The White Sox trading for a guy with 1 year of control that will require giving up any notable pieces of the MLB club or prospects is beyond idiotic. Trading a spare prospect part of two for Joc Pederson is one thing. Trading Madrigal +++++ for Betts is quite another.
  6. Shrug. An infield of Moncada/TA/Madrigal is pretty cool too.
  7. If the Sox were going to offer him a 2+ year deal that was acceptable to Abreu, they would have already offered it and he would have resigned. There is mutual interest on both sides. The mere fact that the Sox got to the point to where they extended the QO proves that there is a significant gap between Abreu's wants and what the Sox are offering. So while I don't necessarily disagree that he'll be back on 2 year deal is the $30M range, if that deal is on the table, clearly Abreu sees it as unacceptable at this juncture. Furthermore, I don't see the Sox suddenly increasing their offer substantially at this point - they now have all the leverage.
  8. Sox continue to play this situation beautifully. Patience is the key here. Eventually Abreu will be back, and if he is dumb enough (mean that in the nicest way possible) to reject the QO, it will be at an AAV significantly less than the $17.8M he is guaranteed for 2020.
  9. Has anyone been able to find a full recording of Hahn's presser? I can only find snippets. It was supposedly 45 mins long...would love to hear the whole thing.
  10. Age comment is a little off base, but the rest of the points are spot on.
  11. It’s so dumb that these full interviews are never available. Makes zero sense to me.
  12. Right. I want pretty much nothing to do with Ozuna unless his market collapses.
  13. Odorizzi is a pretty poor fit to make 15 starts at the Cell. He's also obviously (as you said) going to be looking for a longer term deal if he rejects the QO. But, Odorizzo, Abreu and Smith seem like the guys that could get just hammered in the market with a QO attached this offseason. I ultimately think he takes the 1 year deal and stays with the Twins, or works out a longer term deal to stay with the Twins. There is mutual interest there.
  14. Yep, and seems doable. Just need to win the Grandal bidding.
  15. Pretty much any scenario that involves Grandal and Wheeler/Ryu (or better) is going to get an A++ from me.
  16. Both would be home runs, but at least with #2 it seems "somewhat" realistic. Replace Hamels with say Alex Wood and Will Smith with say Chris Martin, and maybe you have something that could actually happen. 2020 payroll would be in the $130M range in that scenario.
  17. Yah it would. I am hoping for much bigger things than that, but honestly if that is the worst case scenario, I'd take it. At least all future flexibility is still open, and that team, while rather unexciting, would probably be good enough to be around contention in the ALC. I'd honestly prefer that scenerio to overpaying Puig/Castellanos and Odorizzi on longer term deals, as an example. Those are the moves that can legitimately hamstring the future flexibility of the team with average players being paid like stars. At least Calhoun, Encarncaion, and backend SP are all on 1 year deals, and a 2/$30M type deal for Kuechel isn't going to kill you at all. To be frank, outside of Grandal and Wheeler (and obviously the top 3 FA), and to a lesser extent Ryu and Bumgarner, I either have legitimate concerns or minimal interest in giving long term deals of $15M+ AAV to any of the FAs.
  18. Thing is, if the Sox sign another 1 year SP (as we should expect), we probably don't need Ryu for 180 IP+. Obviously it would be nice, but at some point Kopech gets the kid gloves off and Rodon returns, things get a little crowded. We have enough options that Ryu spending his annual DL trip or two isn't going to cripple to rotation.
  19. If Ryu goes for anything close to the 2/$32M projection from FG, the Sox should be all over it. I'd honestly prefer that to 5/$100M for Wheeler.
  20. I like Tauchman, but he's already almost 30, has less than 400 MLB PA, doesn't have much a pedigree (though he was always pretty good in the minors). He also has extreme reverse splits. He's a lefty and here are his career splits: vs. RHP: .228/.314/.444 (261 PA) vs. LHP: .322/.417/.460 (104 PA) Your proposed package seems like a lot. Tauchman just feels like a flash in the pan guy. He was pretty darn good for the Yankees, but I'd be far from surprised if that was his most productive MLB season.
  21. If the Sox were willing to do 2/40 or 3/50, the deal would be signed already.
  22. The Sox need left handed hitters, unless you want an everyday lineup with 8 righties and 1 switch hitter. The Sox also need an above average defensive RF. Neither Mancini or Castellanos make much sense. At least one is a FA and will only cost money.
  23. I’d move those guys for a RF in a second.
  24. Ehhh, I don’t think it’s necessarily about trades.
