White Sox listed as interested in Marcel Ozuna by Dominican Reporter

No, no he doesn’t. -
JDM deal would be a disaster if he doesn’t opt out after 2020. For same reasons as Castellanos, even moreso, with Abreu locked up, he just doesn’t make any sense unless the Sox want to trade Vaughn which I doubt happens.
-
You now have to convince yourself that an Eloy and Castellanos OF is not only serviceable for 2020, but also 21 and 22. I don’t think he’s an option with Abreu locked up.
-
Yah, I mean - there aren't any great, frankly even good FA options this offseason. That is very different next offseason. I have little hope for Rutherford, Basabe or Gonzalez, but I do think Adolfo could blow up this year if the guy could just stay on the field. Walker a little further away. I don't mind giving Adolfo a year and if it doesn't work out, Mookie, Springer, Joc and Brantley all FA next offseason, and can always make a trade. David Peralta is my hope for 2020, if the longer term options like Nimmo cost too much.
-
Castellanos is absolutely 100% not a realistic fit at this point with the Abreu news. Unless they plan to trade Vaughn for pitching and decide to have the worst defense in the league for the next handful of seasons. You could hide Castellanos and Eloy in the same outfield for a season that was always a pipedream to be a playoff year anyway. You can't do it for three. But yes...assume we're at $83. Plus $10M for RF, $20M for Wheeler, and $10M for 1 year stopgap SP you're at $123-125M range. A meh pen man and platoon/bench piece and you're at $133-135M range. That is about as good as we can hope for in 2020, IMO.
-
That includes Yolmer, and think it is a bit high regardless. Saw that referenced somewhere today on twitter or mlbtr, and it seems high. I believe is $82-84M range without Yolmer.
-
My understanding is that, in short, fWAR includes catching defensive statistics including framing, bWAR does not. fWAR is just the far superior resource, IMO, but it is a fair question no doubt.
-
Fuck man, after today - ya never know. Really felt we turned a corner yesterday, and then today happened. Watch the Sox turn around and sign Puig to 4 year $70M deal. (Please don't do this Sox. Pretty please.)
-
Then you stop ignoring the fact that this was completely unnecessary. $14M is not nothing. There is no fucking way that in 2 years time $14M is going to be the going rate for a utility infielder, as you have suggested at least once in this thread. Completely discounting the $4M in deferrals is also silly. $14M would have been good for 2nd highest paid player on the 2019 team besides...Jose Abreu. Its not nothing. No it is not franchise crippling, but it is $14M less to spend on that team, and one less roster spot to work with. It also really limits the Sox ability to add guys this offseason and next that will need to be DHs in the near future - Castellanos, Ozuna, trading for Martinez, etc. Frankly I don't want any of those guys, so I am personally not worried about it, but this move does without a doubt limit their options. I don't really see anybody having "countless overreactions" - some well informed posters find it to be stupid and unnecessary - which it is. There is no need for you to respond to each post saying its no big deal.
-
lol your takes in this thread are straight up comical. This extension is not the end of the world, and the Sox will be just fine. But there is a legitimate scenario where Jose regresses to a replacement level player in 21-22 who we are paying $17M AAV. Its just unnecessary, and based on how this team has operated in the Jerry Reinsdorf era, it is fair to suspect this could cause the Sox to cut corners in other spots on the roster when it should be competing for championships because we decided to reward a guy with a $50M deal he didn't deserve. Again, this isn't franchise crippling, but it is also stupid and unnecessary. If Reinsdorf has Ok'd payrolls approaching $175M in 2021 and beyond, then no big deal, but I'll believe that when I see it.
-
I believe he has an above average arm. Won a GG this year, not that means a ton, but he’s an above average defender. Ive suggested Luis Gonzalez and Codi Heuer elsewhere as the return. Don’t think it would make much more than that. There is some talk that Az may just non tender him.
-
Even this guy gets it.
-
With the signing bonus, its $16M in 2020. That saves $1.8M. This has nothing to do with financial flexibility in 2020, and everything to do with the Sox being loyal to their guy.

I kind of doubt Castellanos is going to want to go to a team that relegates him to DH already. Obviously money talks, but if it’s close, I assume he wants to the field at his age. I want pretty much nothing to do with Ozuna. I would be OK with Castellanos, but just think stop gap RF is better choice and save the money for a real RF in 2021. -
I still think a left handed RF should be the priority. Grandal definitely helps that issues immensely, but the lineup is still righty heavy. Will keep repeating it because it makes too much sense, but David Peralta should be the target. Good defense, good hitter from the left side. 1 year deal. Doesn’t cost a ton ($8-9M range in final year of arb). Frees up right field for a big FA or trade in 2021. Leury can play OF against LHP which he hits well against. Should be able to get him for a fringe guy or two. Peralta makes a ton of sense, gents.
-
12 hours later and I am still so damn happy about this. What a home run signing. No better fit for this lineup than Grandal on the FA market. Absolutely fantastic beginning to hopefully an amazing offseason.
-
Yah, thanks for the response. I had forgotten about that.
-
Let's hit on the Wheeler pick too!
-
Yah, I mean, who would want a 25 year old coming off back to back seasons of being a top 15 pitcher in the AL in their rotation?
-
I think it is closer to $82-85M with min guys and no Yolmer, but picking hairs at that point.
-
I am not exactly opposed to EE, but if the Sox bring him in, Collins is definitely not on the MLB roster and is either in AAA or traded. Just way too many 1B/DH types in that scenario to make it work on the roster. But if EE is cheap enough, its not a terrible idea. Collins can get everyday reps in AAA, and he'll certainly get his opportunity. He does still have 2 options.
-
Insert confused emoji. Honestly, I think McCann is just that guy for 2020. He'll catch against lefties, Grandal to DH or 1b, with Abreu taking the other spot. Collins gets starts against RHP, mostly at DH, but some C and 1B sprinkled in.

I think Hamels is beating a 1 year deal. JMO.
