  1. Good thing we've got him for 4 more entire seasons after this one. Waves of talent. It'll be nice when Moncada leaves for free agency the Sox aren't forced to rebuild again because an impatient front office brought all the prospects up at the same time. Instead, we'll still be really fucking good even if Moncada leaves for $250M payday.
  2. Lol - the guy can only throw a limited amount of innings next year!! So the choice is start him in April when he hasn't faced batters in a real game in 18 months and then shut him down in August for the year. Or start him in the bigs in June after he's built up his endurance in AAA some and then let him pitch unrestricted through the end of the season. Oh and with the 2nd option, you get a year of control back! Its such an easy decision for me. Thankfully, I think it will be for the Sox as well.
  3. I agree - it is great. Kopech is going to throw at most 130 or so innings next year. I would much prefer those innings be in August and September than April and May. Getting a year back is just gravy.
  4. Direct quote from Hahn: "At some point next year you can expect Kopech to join us. I just don't know when he is going to be on the major league active roster. His rehab has gone wonderfully, he is perfectly on pace and is going to be in spring training without restriction, and he is going to be over 18 months removed from having thrown a pitch in anger. So let's let the kid develop and when he is ready, he is going to be back." But, sure. No chance!
  5. Lol, ok, Are you referring to starting Kopech in AAA or signing 2 SP?
  6. With Hahn hinting that Kopech probably starts the year in AAA, there is pretty good chance they sign 2 SP IMO. However, I definitely think the 2nd SP would be more of depth piece that could be moved to pen. Wood/Wacha/Nova type.
  7. He does get injured alot. He is also super fucking good when he is healthy. And you could maybe get him on a Charlie Morton-ish deal like 2/$30 or 3/$45 type deal. With Kopech joining the rotation at some point in May or June (if not earlier) and Rodon coming back and Cease still on some sort of inning restriction, having a guy like Ryu that may need spend a month on the DL isn't the end of the world if they sign 2 SP (for this example, lets say Ryu and Wood). OD Rotation: Giolito, Ryu, Cease, Lopez, Wood Rotation by June: Giolito, Ryu, Kopech, Cease, Lopez....Wood Rotation by whenever Rodon returns: Giolito, Ryu, Kopech, Cease, Lopez, Wood, Rodon Options....
  8. yah, who want the guy with a career era below 3.00 across over 700 innings!
  9. I just really don't see the Bumgarner leaving NL, let alone the NL West. He's a decent fallback option, but he would be towards the back of my top 5. 1. Cole 2. Strasburg 3. Ryu 4. Wheeler 5. Bumgarner 6. Keuchel 7. Kyle Gibson 8. Alex Wood (tho I love him as the 2nd signing if we one of the top 4 guys on my list) 9. Odorizzi 10. Cole Hamels
  10. They didn't shed all this payroll to simply become one of the lowest spending teams in the game, either.
  11. You just listed 3 DHs. You got Leury in RF?
  12. You won’t really be able to see what you have in Collins if he’s relegated to back up catching duties behind McCann
  13. It’s been well documented that he turned down much bigger offers. He shot himself in the foot. He’s also had a good season and doesn’t have a puck attached. You also didn’t answer the question.
  14. That Marco Gonzalez trade is crazy bad for the Sox.
  15. Who are you signing or trading for at DH/1B/RF? I don’t really understand how anyone could be against Grandal at 3/$60 or less.
  16. The one thing I wonder about with Grandal is his willingness to DH and play 1B about half the time. McCann still needs to catch a good bit, and Sox are gonna (hopefully) want to mix Collins in at catcher at least 1x per week.
  17. Grandal should be #1 target other than a top of rotation SP. And Grandal should be reasonable - 3/$60M should get it done. Resign Abreu and trade for one of lefty RF you mentioned or sign Alex Gordon on the cheap and then go to battle.
  18. I think it has nothing to do with confidence. I think Hahn learned his lesson. What benefit is he going to get from coming out saying "Yeah, we'll be competing in 2020. Just wait until we we spend half a billion this offseason! We'll get our ace. We'll get a left handed masher in RF or 1B. Don't you worry Sox fans!". Not sure what you want him to say. I actually read the "let's talk in Glendale" comment as a sign of confidence. But not surprised to see many read it the other way.
  19. I wouldn't really group you in with that crowd though. Almost specifically stated as much. I get wanting to put the best possible product on the field today, but the trade-off is 100% not worth it at this point. If you were going to bring up Robert in mid June - fine. But now, it would just be so shortsighted for a rebuilding club. When 2026 rolls around and Robert just signed a $400 million contact to player for the Red Sox, we're going to pretty damn disappointed he's not leading the White Sox to the playoffs in his final year before FA because the Sox were impatient and called him up for 100 at bats in September 2019 on a 70 win team.
  20. This I agree with. I’d definitely have both Collins and Mendick playing everyday by now.
  21. Because they complain regardless of what occurs. It’s absolute nonsense.
  22. Prime Robinson Cano. Perennial top 5 MVP candidate. .320/.380/.540 type lines. I don't think we'll ever see Moncada play 160 games a year like Cano did for all those seasons, but he can be a comparable player. Its insane what cano did. From 2007-2017, these were Cano's GP: 160, 159, 161, 160, 159, 161 ,160, 157, 156, 161, 150
  23. At this point I’d much rather give younger guys PT than Jay (who’s been terrible for awhile), Castillo, Detwiler and Santiago. Were a little thinner on pitching, but give Kubat a few starts. Try Bernardo Flores. Bring bang Ruiz and Vieria. May as well use these next few weeks to give some guys some looks.
  24. I am totally cool with Abreu sticking around, but for the love of Jesus do not over pay the man. 2 years $18M-20M with a $10M team option for a third year is the MAX he should be getting.
