  1. You won’t really be able to see what you have in Collins if he’s relegated to back up catching duties behind McCann
  2. It’s been well documented that he turned down much bigger offers. He shot himself in the foot. He’s also had a good season and doesn’t have a puck attached. You also didn’t answer the question.
  3. That Marco Gonzalez trade is crazy bad for the Sox.
  4. Who are you signing or trading for at DH/1B/RF? I don’t really understand how anyone could be against Grandal at 3/$60 or less.
  5. The one thing I wonder about with Grandal is his willingness to DH and play 1B about half the time. McCann still needs to catch a good bit, and Sox are gonna (hopefully) want to mix Collins in at catcher at least 1x per week.
  6. Grandal should be #1 target other than a top of rotation SP. And Grandal should be reasonable - 3/$60M should get it done. Resign Abreu and trade for one of lefty RF you mentioned or sign Alex Gordon on the cheap and then go to battle.
  7. I think it has nothing to do with confidence. I think Hahn learned his lesson. What benefit is he going to get from coming out saying "Yeah, we'll be competing in 2020. Just wait until we we spend half a billion this offseason! We'll get our ace. We'll get a left handed masher in RF or 1B. Don't you worry Sox fans!". Not sure what you want him to say. I actually read the "let's talk in Glendale" comment as a sign of confidence. But not surprised to see many read it the other way.
  8. I wouldn't really group you in with that crowd though. Almost specifically stated as much. I get wanting to put the best possible product on the field today, but the trade-off is 100% not worth it at this point. If you were going to bring up Robert in mid June - fine. But now, it would just be so shortsighted for a rebuilding club. When 2026 rolls around and Robert just signed a $400 million contact to player for the Red Sox, we're going to pretty damn disappointed he's not leading the White Sox to the playoffs in his final year before FA because the Sox were impatient and called him up for 100 at bats in September 2019 on a 70 win team.
  9. This I agree with. I’d definitely have both Collins and Mendick playing everyday by now.
  10. Because they complain regardless of what occurs. It’s absolute nonsense.
  11. Prime Robinson Cano. Perennial top 5 MVP candidate. .320/.380/.540 type lines. I don't think we'll ever see Moncada play 160 games a year like Cano did for all those seasons, but he can be a comparable player. Its insane what cano did. From 2007-2017, these were Cano's GP: 160, 159, 161, 160, 159, 161 ,160, 157, 156, 161, 150
  12. At this point I’d much rather give younger guys PT than Jay (who’s been terrible for awhile), Castillo, Detwiler and Santiago. Were a little thinner on pitching, but give Kubat a few starts. Try Bernardo Flores. Bring bang Ruiz and Vieria. May as well use these next few weeks to give some guys some looks.
  13. I am totally cool with Abreu sticking around, but for the love of Jesus do not over pay the man. 2 years $18M-20M with a $10M team option for a third year is the MAX he should be getting.
  14. He should qualify in the next week to 10 days. The cut off was 388 PA entering today and he had 373.
  15. For Robert and Madrigal, were talking about 2.5-3 weeks of early season games. It’s highly unlikely that Robert and Madrigal would make a 3-5 game difference in W/L record in that amount of time. It could be the difference in a game or two, but it’s 100% worth getting the extra season. These guys are going to play 90% of the season on the Sox.
  16. In other words - you basically find more enjoyment in the Sox failing than succeeding.
  17. I thought for sure he'd be back today since he wasn't in Charlotte's lineup yesterday. Maybe just a day off after the Saturday doubleheader and they think he needs a couple more games?
  18. I assume Yoan is here in Minneapolis with the team today. Will be nice to have him back. Cordell is probably headed back to AAA. Guess it could also be a Skole DFA.
  19. Kopech and Cease are both going to be on innings limits next year. Obviously having Rodon return mid summer helps that, but having too much pitching isn't a bad thing. It isn't really a problem. I'd prefer for the backend guy to be a LHP like Wood, but you can always just trade the guy if you have a log jam, or turn Wood/Nova into the long guy in the pen when Kopech is ready. Its not really a concern, IMO. Fair. I think the Sox will have at a minimum a $100M payroll next season. With arb figures, the Sox payroll will be about $45M next season without adding any FA. That gives them at a minimum $55M in 2020 payroll to add. You also only highlighted Cole in my original post - when I also mentioned Stasburg, Ryu and Wheeler. Obviously some of those guys will be cheaper than others. I prefer to shoot for Cole, but yah - its going to be tough to outbid the Yankees who surely will be after him. I also don't care to rehash last offseason with someone with so much hate for the FO, but if you can't recognize the difference between last offseason and this coming in terms of where the Sox are in the rebuild, then well....its not really worth discussing.
  20. He'll be in the CF until Robert arrives. He should then shift to 2B full time until Madrigal arrives, unless Madrigal comes up with Robert around 4/20. After which, he becomes super sub / injury replacement. He'll still get a ton of at bats if he can stay healthy.
  21. What do you think the Sox payroll will be next season?
  22. Totally fine with Nova if he’s one of two pitchers brought in and the other is named Cole or Strasburg or Ryu or Wheeler.
  23. Yah it’s wrong. It’s at 39

Because he is 22 and shouldn’t be a DH. It’s much easier and less expensive to find good bats at DH and 1B than corner OF. That is why they need him in the OF most days.

And now Moncada is one of the top 10-15 position players in the game and easily within the 20 most valuable assets in the game. So yah, as CWS said, some patience with young players is needed. The Sox need Eloy in LF most days. He’s improved as the season has gone on, but obviously is still below average. I think he can become an average defender if he puts in the work. The Sox just need Eloy to hit like he can. The power is obviously there, but the hit tool just hasn’t been as strong as I expected. I suspect we’ll see major improvements in 2020, and it’d be nice if he could avoid injuring himself.
