He should qualify in the next week to 10 days. The cut off was 388 PA entering today and he had 373.

For Robert and Madrigal, were talking about 2.5-3 weeks of early season games. It’s highly unlikely that Robert and Madrigal would make a 3-5 game difference in W/L record in that amount of time. It could be the difference in a game or two, but it’s 100% worth getting the extra season. These guys are going to play 90% of the season on the Sox.

In other words - you basically find more enjoyment in the Sox failing than succeeding.

Moncada to IL, out at least 2 weeks per Merkin
ChiSox59 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought for sure he'd be back today since he wasn't in Charlotte's lineup yesterday. Maybe just a day off after the Saturday doubleheader and they think he needs a couple more games? -

I assume Yoan is here in Minneapolis with the team today. Will be nice to have him back. Cordell is probably headed back to AAA. Guess it could also be a Skole DFA. -
Ivan Nova open to re-signing with the Sox
ChiSox59 replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kopech and Cease are both going to be on innings limits next year. Obviously having Rodon return mid summer helps that, but having too much pitching isn't a bad thing. It isn't really a problem. I'd prefer for the backend guy to be a LHP like Wood, but you can always just trade the guy if you have a log jam, or turn Wood/Nova into the long guy in the pen when Kopech is ready. Its not really a concern, IMO. Fair. I think the Sox will have at a minimum a $100M payroll next season. With arb figures, the Sox payroll will be about $45M next season without adding any FA. That gives them at a minimum $55M in 2020 payroll to add. You also only highlighted Cole in my original post - when I also mentioned Stasburg, Ryu and Wheeler. Obviously some of those guys will be cheaper than others. I prefer to shoot for Cole, but yah - its going to be tough to outbid the Yankees who surely will be after him. I also don't care to rehash last offseason with someone with so much hate for the FO, but if you can't recognize the difference between last offseason and this coming in terms of where the Sox are in the rebuild, then well....its not really worth discussing. -
Does Leury Garcia deserve a ‘20 starting spot?
ChiSox59 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He'll be in the CF until Robert arrives. He should then shift to 2B full time until Madrigal arrives, unless Madrigal comes up with Robert around 4/20. After which, he becomes super sub / injury replacement. He'll still get a ton of at bats if he can stay healthy. -

What do you think the Sox payroll will be next season? -
Ivan Nova open to re-signing with the Sox
ChiSox59 replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Totally fine with Nova if he’s one of two pitchers brought in and the other is named Cole or Strasburg or Ryu or Wheeler. -
Yah it’s wrong. It’s at 39
-
Because he is 22 and shouldn’t be a DH. It’s much easier and less expensive to find good bats at DH and 1B than corner OF. That is why they need him in the OF most days.
-
And now Moncada is one of the top 10-15 position players in the game and easily within the 20 most valuable assets in the game. So yah, as CWS said, some patience with young players is needed. The Sox need Eloy in LF most days. He’s improved as the season has gone on, but obviously is still below average. I think he can become an average defender if he puts in the work. The Sox just need Eloy to hit like he can. The power is obviously there, but the hit tool just hasn’t been as strong as I expected. I suspect we’ll see major improvements in 2020, and it’d be nice if he could avoid injuring himself.

The rumors were (partially) true: Collins to AAA
ChiSox59 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No. No they should not. Collins, sure. Why not. Zero reason to call up Robert and Madrigal right now. Would be idiotic. -
That actually has nothing to do with it. If you’d actually listen to what Hahn said on topic instead of commenting blind, you would understand that they are working on completely changing Collins approach at the plate and they want him to do that with everyday at bats in AAA. I too think he’s earned another shot in the bigs, but it’s not like they demoted him without a plan. And the plan seems to be working very well to this point.

Anyone else want to claim Swihart / DFA Castillo
ChiSox59 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Seriously tho...how did Castillo seemingly survive that debacle? Give me Alfredo fucking Gonzalez over that bum. He served a purpose earlier in the year, but his time has come. -
Should be, but he should have been gone awhile ago.

LOL!

Grienke's jersey looks like 6 sizes too big
-
Not sure of any fine print in the rule, to be honest. Just thought MLB teams got a 26 man when dealing with a doubleheader.
-
I assume we'll see Covey or Ruiz added at the 26th man. Those two, along with Vieira and Medeiros, are only pitchers on the 40 man and not on the active 25 man that are healthy.
-
Getting 1 of these 2 would be impressive.
-
Then Collins is a straight back up catcher that sucks at catching? That doesn’t really fit with your “Sox are committed to Collins” take either. He would be far better utilized as a guy they can plug in at DH and 1B as well. More difficult to do that regularly with 2 catchers.

I don't know that Alex Gordon is truly a solution, but I don't mind him as a short term stop gap to give Adolfo/Walker/Rutherford another year to see if they can take a big step forward and become the RF in 2021. All the top tier RF options on the FA market hit the wrong way and are poor defenders. They're also going to be expensive and require longer term deals. Gordon could likely be had for a 1 year deal around $8-$10M. He is a plus defender, a decent LH bat, knows the division super well and is a good clubhouse guy. We could certainly do worse if nothing presents itself on the trade market in RF.

Collins has started 68 games in AAA this season. 41 at catcher, 16 at 1B and 11 at DH. Clearly they are open to him playing multiple positions - which is also evident based on how much they were working him out (before games) at 1B while with the big league club. You can only really take advantage of that flexibility with a third catcher on the big league club. Grandal should, without a doubt, be the Sox #1 positional player target in FA. He is legitimately a perfect fit. Madrigal 2B, Moncada 3B, Robert CF, Eloy, LF, FA/TRADE LH RF, Abreu 1B, Grandal C/DH, Anderson SS, Collins DH/1B/C McCann catches against 3-4 days a week to get Collins out of the lineup against LHP and Grandal slides to DH. Can also give Abreu more rest this way.

Bassitt is 30 years old and has amassed a total of 3.8 fWAR since being traded from the Sox in 2014. Would I prefer him in the rotation over Detwiler/Covey - yah, for sure. But he's definitely not worth losing sleep over.
