  1. He has proven time and time again that the answer to that question is unequivocally, no.
  2. Berrios is without a doubt the Twins best pitcher.
  3. Leury will be playing CF until Robert, and mostly likely Madrigal, arrive in late April.
  4. Yah, not really signing him to DH. Him and McCann split catching duties. Get Collins in there once or twice a week. Collins DHs against RHP, Grandal catches. McCann sits against tough righties, etc. I think a three-way catching/DH/occasional 1b tandem with those three works pretty well. Also, there really aren't many great DH options, especially lefties. Justin Smoak is one of the better fits....and....gross.
  5. Great, sign him for $5M then. Doesn't change anything.
  6. Yah...if anything, tried to overshoot my estimates a bit. I think 3/$30M could maybe even get it done for Betances
  7. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Robert and Madrigal getting called up in September will make absolutely zero impact on Moncada and Giolito potentially signing extensions this offseason.
  8. Just for fun - mainly because I am bored at work today - I am going to put together an off-season plan that doesn't include any mega contacts or trades and see how things shake out. Sign Zack Wheeler - 4 years / $70M Sign Yasmani Grandal - 3 years/ $55M + $17M club option Sign Dellin Betances - 4 years / $48M Re-sign Jose Abreu - 2 years/ $20M + $10M club option Sign Alex Gordon - 1 year / $9M Sign Alex Wood - 1 year / $8M Sign Scooter Gennett - 1 year / $5M Adds ~$80M to next year's payroll, which should bring the total up to ~$125M or still below league average. 2020 Opening Day Lineup / Roster: Leury Garcia CF, Tim Anderson SS, Yoan Moncada 3B, Jose Abreu 1B, Eloy Jimenez LF, Yasmani Grandal DH, Alex Gordon RF, James McCann C, Scooter Gennett 2B Rotation: Giolito, Wheeler, Cease, Lopez and Wood Bullpen: Betances, Colome, Bummer, Fry, Herrera, Marshall, Cordero, one of Ruiz/Frare/Hamilton/Vieira/Burdi BN: Collins, Goins, Engel/Cordell Lineup / Roster by ~June 1: Luis Robert CF, Tim Anderson SS, Yoan Moncada 3B, Jose Abreu 1B, Eloy Jimenez LF, Yasmani Grandal DH, Alex Gordon RF, James McCann C, Nick Madrigal 2B Rotation: Giolito, Wheeler, Cease, Lopez and Kopech (with Rodon arriving soon) Bullpen: Betances, Colome, Bummer, Fry, Herrera, Wood, Cordero, one of Marshall/Ruiz/Frare/Hamilton/Vieira/Burdi BN: Leury, Collins, Gennett LETS PLAY. I would definitely go to battle with this team. Limits long term commitments. Only slightly bests Abreu's $68M contact as the largest the Sox have given out. For those that don't see the Sox adding a major FA - I get it - but this wouldn't be an awful way for things to shake out. I'd obviously prefer Cole to Wheeler, but understand that 7/$225M+ is going to be quite steep.
  9. I assume any of these deals would have team options. Its Hahn's M-O.
  10. Another guy who should get a look this month is Bernando Flores, IMO. He needs to be added to the 40 man in December. Is already 24 years old. Throws left handed. Give him some starts.
  11. Quintana was without a doubt a diamond in the rough type
  12. ChiSox59 replied to zisk's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If that is the case, why wouldn't he just agree to a 1 year deal at a lesser value ($3-4M as you said) instead of non-tendering him? I kind of just want Yolmer gone. He's a passable player and has a great glove (other than that awful first week of this season), but I just worry about the Sox overusing the guy if he is around. I'd rather just move on.
  13. Yah, there is really zero reason what so ever for guys like Jay, Castillo, Santiago, Detwiler, Osich, and Skole (shit, even add Yolmer to the list) to make another appearance with the Sox. I do agree that things may be treated a bit difference with Charlotte's playoff series starting next Wednesday. But really, now is the time to be giving some of these fringey guys shots instead of guys we know with 100% certainty will not be on the 40 man in 2 months.
  14. Would be an overpay, IMO.
  15. I really wish they’d just jettison Osich, Santiago, Skole, Wellington. It’s so stupid to continue to give any of those guys reps.
  16. Lol you’re signing Gregorious to be you SS for the next 4-5 seasons over Tim Anderson? Alrighty then. Didi is a good ball player. Not saying he isn’t. But guys we have a SS - they aren’t moving Anderson to the OF. They aren’t signing a 30 year old SS just to move Anderson to a position he’s never played.
  17. Meh. He definitely has too many mental lapses, but he gets to balls most SS can’t even dream of and has an absolute cannon for an arm. He is amazing on pop outs in foul ground. Great on the transfer. Hes not perfect, but he’s still young and can improve and has the talent to do so. Im not moving him to RF for a 30 year old stop gap.
  18. Habits are a b****.
  19. Why would anyone imagine that just for funsies?
  20. After college (2013ish) 3 friends and I lived in a house in a decent neighborhood in Minneapolis around the University of Minnesota. Two of my roommates at the time were big time gamers, so we had four 50-60 inch flatscreens in our living room. 2 for gaming, 2 for whatever sporting events were on that evening (these guys were also Twins fans, so needed a tv for my Sox games!). In hindsight, I am sure our house stuck out like a sore thumb to anyone driving by with 4 large flatscreens right there visible in the living room. I was always the first awake of the group (3 of the 4 of us lived in the basement)...and I walked upstairs and noticed the house was FREEZING cold. Turns out the back window had been opened, screen removed, and back door wide open. I walked into living room and everything was gone. All 4 tvs. Several gaming systems - PS4, a couple Xboxs, N64....all the games. 2 laptops, 1 ipad. 1 of my roommates keys were gone...and so was his close to brand new VW Passat. The guy who got his car stolen had recently moved in so his car was full of stuff. Half his wardrope, golf clubs, etc., etc., Thankfully I always kept all my stuff in my room as there were always a lot of people in and out of that house so I never really felt comfortable leaving my stuff out. Only thing I lost was an N64 and an older TV. But the thing that shocked me the most was the complete lack of giving any fucks by the police. There was never any follow up. My roommates car turned up about 2 weeks later full of cig butts and syringes. All of his stuff was gone. Only thing in car besides the aforementioned was a bag a woman's thongs. Pretty sure a stripper was driving the car around. The cops never made any attempt whatsoever to figure out who broke into the house and robbed us clean of everything they could get their hands on. And its kind of scary - we were all in the house at the time...sleeping.
  21. Yes? A relief pitcher signed for 2 year $17M deal doesn't really strike me as a deal that was intended to move the needle much, but rather bridge the gap to the younger pen arms being ready to take his place. Obviously Hererra has been terrible this season, but relief pitchers are weird. Decent chance he's back to being a reliable pensman next season.
  22. I may be in the minority, but I kind of hope they give Palka another shot this September. I'd rather see him in RF than Jay and he is much better DH option against RHP than Goins/Skole/Castillo. He's not a long term option, but he's on the 40 man so why the heck not. Especially if they're gonna keep Collins in AAA until the Knights are eliminated.
  23. Because those fans thrive on negativity, and frankly, history is on their side.
  24. With September less than a week away, major league teams will start to pad their active rosters with prospects. Curious to see who you think will get the call. With Charlotte likely going to the playoffs, that may have an affect on some of the fringey guys. Here are the options: On the 40-Man: Pitchers: Covey, Frare, Medeiros, Ruiz, and Vieira Bats: Collins, Zavala, Basabe, Cordell, Palka and Tilson Not on the 40-Man: Pitchers: Bernando Flores, Kyle Kubat, Spencer Adams, Matt Foster, Juan Minaya, Hunter Schryver, Zach Thompson, Connor Walsh Bats: Robert, Madrigal, Mercedes, Mendick, AJ Reed On the IL (but likely to return this season): Fulmer, Banuelos (no idea if he'll return this season), My guess are Ruiz, Covey, Zavala and Cordell return right away. Fulmer returns when he gets off DL. Vieria, Collins, and Palka join when the Knights lose.
